New designs coming up look to be great from your experiences Danny, looking forward to them. Also I doubt I should ask this here but why no PM feature amongst members? Too much work and server space needed? And you could, as a suggestion, put up different themes/skins from people who are willing to voluntarily make them out of their own free time for DC.com, so that users get a larger variety of colors/palettes to view DC.com in the theme or skin they like the most. Just an idea though.
PM feature would be nice, but I would really love a comment system where you don't have to jump a page just to add a comment. Among all your different design these past eight years, the latest one would be the best. Mirai-san saikou! XD
Oh! I remember the Hexagonal design for dannychoo.com IV.2 and the site was loading slowly as I was on 512K Broadband then - Especially so when I had to leave the site to load and grabbed a cup of tea and would be still loading ^^; My skills now are probably still like when you first started off. Limited PHP and MYSQL skills ^^; Am waiting for the day it hits the top 5000 :)
Messaging other members and comment edit/comment on post features are done and being tested ^^
wow looking back sure brings memories.. I've been around your site since mid 2005 and have been reading your blog till now, haha keep up the work Danny! =D
Wow! The Chronicle of DannyChoo.com Fantastic! Keep it up ;-)
Wow... changed quite a lot it seems! I mean, evolved... because I personally like the latest version best. :D It's a better representation to the blog's subject, IMHO. Anyways, great job so far Danny! Keep it up!
Dannychoo.com has come a long way and like wine, is getting better everyday. Looking forward to see the designs in the upcoming years, maybe something futuristic that will blow our minds. Danny banzai!!
The hexagon DNA helix thing was pretty trendy back then, a lot of design sites had that theme. i like the current design of this blog and i can see that we've come a long way, but who knows what the future has in stored for dannychoo.com
Very impressive, but you deserve it. Your site is great Danny ^^
Wow 2007 was the year that dannychoo really took off. I always liked coding more than WYSIWYG because you get lots of little weird layout problems. And I make websites without flash and fancy designs (hexagons aren't "content", but anime pictures are) because it wastes valuable screen space and I usually don't want to wait for some animation to finish. It's surprising that you only changed to CSS recently. I went from HTML straight to CSS years ago without going through a table phase. This is probably because I like to validate my code in W3C and it said to use CSS instead of the font tag (by the way you need to escape HTML in comments). So then I read up on CSS and use it for styling/layout was it was meant to be used for, although it is a bit clumsy compared to tables.
It sure is gone a long way, even though you see the latest blogs on this site, links still appear from previous years. it really does gives you the urge just to click on everything! Thanks Danny for bringing japan to my cramped workspace.
Great post Danny, an inspiring read on how far you've come over the last few years.
I just recently found your site. It's really interesting. Thank you! Just a quick question... do you happen to know the correct URL to PDF for setting up a sole proprietorship in Japan. The page you are linking to doesn't exist anymore. My Japanese is not good enough yet to find out myself, so I thought I would give this a try. Anyway, thanks.
i first came to DC.com around end 2004 and i could still remember the flash hexagons but i was just a lurker back then and very seldom visit it ^^;;; but at the end of 2005 and 2006 i started to frequently visit DC.com 'coz of Gundams and i liked the rounded web2.0 design ^^ i could still remember Danny's quote before about his site that it was made from scratch and he didn't used any of those existing blog softwares ^^ i love where DC.com and Mirai Inc. is going and i fully support and i'll be right behind it all the way ^______________^
Wow that was a long walk down memory lane. I'm sure soon you will hit your 5000 rank goal. As for me, I'm now slowly inching towards below 100,000 first.
If you are going to bring Chinese back , make sure you promote your web page in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. I'm guarantee your server will explode.
interesting development lol ^^
I actually kinda miss the flash headers, ah well. Great job, danny!
Here's to the future of dannychoo! Kanpai! Have to ask - I don't suppose you know why the bottom of the amazon.co.jp source code has a nifty comment that says ""? :P
>_> I should have seen that coming.... "Meow" should be in those inverted commas in the previous comment.
Its odd seeing my comments on some of those screenshots. This is the first site I ever signed up for to leave a comment. Other than myspace, I didnt have an account with almost anyone. I was really impressed, and it was good to see the members here were as incorrigible as I was. I like how things have progressed since I have been here, and all the new smart-@$$es that join up. Great to meet all of you. Hope this community grows for a long time. Ba-la-ba-ba-ba, Id hit it.
hey danny can i add you in my ps3 contact? ^^ anyway my ps3 ID is HirumaYouichi :D
I only stumbled across your page last year some time. A friend of mine mentioned your site and since then, I check your page regularly (if not daily XP). It was interesting to see the history of DC... quite inspiring too.
Hmm, I wonder what happened to the rest of your works in your artbook gallery, Mr. Danny Choo?
Two words. Scattered and confusing.
I only joined a few months ago, I'm such a noob. But I love the site, it's almost always running on some tab on my comp.
Long live dannychoo.com! I can only dream of making such a cool site such as yours Danny! Danny fight on!
Hmm... currently have feedback form function for Php on my website's Mail page. Already forget SQL as I do not practice this language after finishing the subject back on 2005. Php was rarely been offered as a crash course, let alone regular course subject. 3+ years of practicing webdesigning and the result is still like a novice's... or even some novice developers can do nicely than I currently do... I regret for not studying well when I still had the chance to improve myself...hahah Anyway, keep it all up Danny.
Very interesting article (as usual). I love stuffs related to your businesses. It makes me feel that everything is possible. People just have to believe in their dreams and make them real (as you). I wish I would do the same (soon ^_^). Keep on Danny. Best wishes.
I'll be honest and say that all this talk about CSS and stuff scares me. Reading about how much you've progressed also makes me a little jealous of that progress and how good you've become. But I must say, good job for making it this far, and we'll all be here to support you. I'll try to work hard and catch up to you one day. Until then, I'll be web-stalking you closely and watching you progress further. Good luck on getting to top 5,000! I'm sure you can do it.
LMAO THE V CLONE IS THE VIC VIPER XD
oh and by the way. i see tons and TONS of imnprovemnt by just looking at the chart of people who visited the site. 2006 normal, 2007 a bit high, and 2008....... REALLY REALLY FREAKIN HIGH XD. let dannychoo be the best site for anime manga idol figures and etc. forever!!!
With all the determination, hard work and passion you've put on your life, you really deserve the high traffic Danny!
straightforward as always. keep up the good work :p
The evolution of dannychoo.com! I only started at 2005 so i missed out on the 2000-2004 time line. Anyways, great work Danny, your site is a lifesaver amongst an anime-deprived nation.
Really nice to hear about your development process, didn't realise quite so much thought and effort had gone into the design :D
Well I only started visiting your website late last year but from reading this post I see exactly how much work you put into creating this site and to be honest it's one of the best designed sites I have EVER been to. Keep up the amazing work Danny, I hope I can learn as much as you know some day :p.
wow. i didnt know that this place had so much history behind it. keep up the good work danny!!!
Holy Geez Danny. I'm glad you put up this article as I had no idea of how much this site has transformed throughout the years. I've only been here since Nov, so seeing the transition is quite staggering. The growth is clearly evident. Your realization that functionality and userability is what makes your site so successful, and not simply it's appearance. Looking forward to your new features that'll make it even more so. Thanks for allowing us to share this site with you Choo-man. As I'm sure it seems to have a life of its own sometimes. Top 5000 in no time, my friend. Cheers!
Nice article, I am too embarrased to show my old website designs in public! I've had my site since 1995, but only started monetizing it (I love that word!) in 2001 after being made redundant after the dot com crash and realising I had to earn money to buy food and stuff.
...Damn...I need to start learning computer and internet wep page design.
Reading this reminds me of your startup story, and shoot man your story is amazing. I unfortunately tended towards the slacker end of the spectrum throughout my years in school and it has painfully cost me dearly. It's been so long now that such bad habits and personality flaws are so deeply ingrained in me that I suffer from an extreme case of easier-said-than-done... I still have a sort of goal of being able to work in Japan or at least be able to travel to Japan frequently, but at this point in my life it's become increasingly hard to find out where I need to start... Your story's given me a bit of a light of hope to head towards, but I'm still pretty deep in the darkness and stumbling around lol _|¯|O
I'm very impressed by the progress of DannyChoo.com. I first discover your site on mid 2007, so I didn't know what it looked like back in the early days. It was a great evolution I must say. Now I can't wait for this site new evolution!
Wow...that really makes me think back about how i started to design website. at that time, i doesn't know anything about coding at all. Just a simple table format and put the picture on it. And yes, my site only work with IE5 & 6 as well. ^^ right now, no time to continue to learn coding a website. simply used free template and put into the blogger. lol
Wow. How old's this site?
Wow. I know that Dannychoo.com has been in operational for a long time, but didn't expect it to evolve so much O.O; I discovered this site in Mid-2007 though :p
Man I feel a little old now. Not too badly tho!! I've been floating around since Dannychoo v4.2!! I miss the old hexagons...
Heh heh, looks like I was coming in right when you started your blogging Danny. XD In 2005 was when I found your site and now I visit everyday. XD
ya i'll be here today, tomorrow and in the future as long as dannychoo.com is here. ^^;
