Funny that Leopard got released, because I just bought myself a Macbook. Still trying to get used to it.

I'm going to wait because my computer's only 1 year old and at this point, I don't really need the extras. The "spaces" feature looks pretty useful though.

I really want the stacks feature, but more importantly, the multiple desktop feature.  That'll help cut down on a lot of open windows and filled docks.  I never actually buy my OSes though, if you know what I mean. ^^;

I still think Ubuntu is better. Macs are pretty looking, but not enough functionality for my uses, unfortunately.

How can a quasi-FreeBSD with a Mach kernel and a NeXTish GUI-based OS lack functionality, even for the hardcore Ubuntu users? The BSD isn't there just to look pretty.... What are you using your Ubuntu machine for? If you'd like, I can show you how to port the programs over or show you how Mac OS X handles those functions.

For me personally, Mac OS and Linux are kinda the same.
Even if they were better for what I use, I still wouldn't switch only because I'm a lazy guy that can't deal with learning curves.
I tried using Linux several times, and I tested Mac OSX some time ago.
Came to the conclusion that WinXP Professional is still the best choice for me.

My laptop, which got home just yesterday, came preloaded with Vista though.
Screw Dell for forcing Vista on me... I never had a single problem (no viruses, no BSOD, no compatibility issues) with XP. Vista? First 5 minutes of testing, it gave me BSOD. Nice.

I'd like to sit back and wait. Macs have become more like Windows everyday... I hope it won't be like that bug-filled Vista.

Interesting, I wonder if all computer stores that sell Mac will sell this new OS and replace it with the newer one like when Windows releases new OS's.

I'm planning to make a switch to Mac within two years from now. That means it's going to be Leopard without a doubt. Now I just need to find a job (that earns more than a minimum salary) that can be done next to my study. ^^"

I will wait a week or so too. I never jump in right away with any new OS release.

I agree the open dialog and Finder really need a rethink.  I hope we will see an improvemet with Leopard.  With time I have found myself not needing to see pictures thumbnails when using files. ^^;

I have always found that I don't realize how much I appreciate new features in OSX until I start sing them, I'm sure Leopard will be the same.

@Henry, I'll have a go at that...

Windows Vista - I wouldn't touch it if it was the last OS on the planet. I'm sticking with XP Pro until I have to change. I know I'm not the only one.

Leopard I will get to in a few weeks. I really like Mac OSX. Then again, I'm was fond of UNIX and OSX has been stable for me.

Ubuntu and Linuix are nice for experimentation. I personally don't see them as be productivity tools for my everyday work and that is what I need my computers to be.

I don't get why Apple advertise Mac as a life machine and PC a work machine.

I don't like Mac. I see them in work place all the time and hardly see them in personal life.

Mac can't play PC games, don't have the right click. Can't be customized digitally or physically.

The only good thing about Mac is it looks good.

It does have a right click, maybe its time you actually try one instead of just looking at the lot.
For the game part, you do know macs can run windows dont ya? hence no problem for any pc games to run on a mac, natively.

Having been using...re-using a Mac (It's been a few years since my Powerbook died) for the last few months after my PC died, there are things I like about it. I do prefer Windows Explorer tho'. I had planned on waiting until after Leopard came out, but my XP box died and after 1 day with Vista, I went out and got a Mac mini. I'll probably throw Centos Linux onto the PC and make it a server after I've upgraded to Leopard

Well this is technically for Danny (if he reads this and responds which I would like ) but if anybody else knows how then feel free tro respond.

Could you explain how to do a clean install of OS X Leopard when it comes out. I'm guessing it can't be much different from OS X Tiger. This will give me a chance for some performance boost and so that I don't have to install any unnessary components. I think you mentioned doing this in one of your topics but anyways I would appreciate it if you could give me a step by step instruction on how to do it. Thank Danny.

@ Ki Moon

If you want a 100% clean install of OS X, when you boot from the DVD, select what drive you want OS X to be on and click on "Options..." on the bottom left of the window. Inside will be an option to "Erase and Install." Click that and click OK. Then proceed as normal. Keep in mind, this will totally reformat your hard drive so be sure to backup anything important.

Windows XP still rocks the hardest among all the current OS for me. :D It's got all the features I need in my daily activities. Tried Vista and Mac OS X before but didn't like it that much.

Will this erase Microsoft Office too?
Also, do you believe this is a better option then upgrading? I've been reading up on this and people are 'saying" that its better to do a clean install but I'm not sure. I guess it would delete some unnessary components that i've built up over the years but still not sure. Thanks for your input.

I will try it out at the local Mac Store before I jump in. I don't know if Leopard will fully compatible with Parallel or other apps. Also, I would like to know how's the native 64-bit support will do (like getting over 3GB memory barrier on my MBP, probably not.... sigh...)

Yes, it will erase every single thing you have on your hard drive. It'll be like having an entirely new computer. If you just want to replace the system, but still keep your programs like Microsoft Office, there is an option in the "Options..." menu called "Archive and Install." That option will archive your old system folder and install a brand new system. That's what I did when going from 10.3 to 10.4 on this G4 I'm using.

Personally, it's hard for me to say which one is best for you. I never recommend an upgrade install. Every upgrade install I've done seems to have lost some speed compared to the other options. If your computer is acting a little buggy, it's probably best to back everything up and do a clean install. If it's working fine, an "Archive and Install" should be good enough.

@ Ryori no tetsujin

Parallels, Inc. claims full compatibility with the upcoming 10.5 Leopard OS, so it should be perfectly fine. If you're worried about how certain things will act, you can always install the OS on a different hard drive (an iPod works great for this!). Boot from that HD and see how you like it.

Is there a way for me to reinstall the Microsoft Office after wiping my hard drive? I mean if I still had the key code for Microsoft Office. Or will it not allow me to install it again?

Thank You

Assuming you have the install disk(s) and the serial number, you should be able to reinstall it. The only issue that could possibly occur would be if it's not compatible with 10.5. I can't say for sure, but I don't think it will be an issue.

Thanks Danny and Tom that both helps...Hopefully one of you will get Leopard and do the install yourself as mention any bugs or special instructions...I think I'm going to wait a couple of day or a week to see if there is anything wrong with Leopard first....my Macbook Pro could use the performance boost....it feels like its lagging a bit now and its only been a year.

Most features in this update is not as dramatic as previous updates, besides time machine. I am still keeping my finger crossed that they kept some major features unannounced till launch day.

No clue if you're still monitoring this post since it's a bit old, but regarding your word inquiry. Yes, Word 2004 is confirmed to work with 10.5. My friend said when he first launched it, nothing happened. However, it seemed to work every other time afterwards.
