Got loads to show you so will be splitting up the report into several parts over the next few days. Figure fans need not fret as will be covering one lovely figure in particular that may possibly induce a nose bleed.

Arrived in Shizuoka yesterday morning after a 45 min ride on the Hikari Shinkansen (bullet train) and made for Twin Messe Shizuoka where the event was being held. Despite being press/business day, the place was packed - most gathered around the Bandai booth. They had GFF Musha Gundam and GFF (huge!) Psycho Gundam on display but was guarded by Bandai staff who all had "no-photos" written on their forehead.

Bandai had a wall of all 100 MGs and I took some photos of my fave MGs - just incase you are wondering why I snapped old MGs.
The PG Wing Gundam is a limited edition perl model which is basically the same mold as the previous version.

The Shizuoka Hobby Show is open to the public Saturday and Sunday - if you cant make it then wait until October and go to the Plamo Radicon show instead which will be held in Makuhari - last years coverage here.

Bumped into Yoshumu-san yesterday and you can get a load of his pics here.
Some of the better coverage can be found among the following. And of course Gunota has been collecting all the resources on the show - check it out.

Great pics! Some really cool models there, especially a couple with great paint jobs.
Can't say I like the pearly effect on the PG Wing Zero Custom. Looks horribly plastic under that light.
Loved the Freedom piercing Destroy's chest though ^^.

I agree that the Wing Zero looks pretty lame. The red and white gundam looks pretty cool though.

I would never get bored of gundam making, the actual anime though I sometimes get bored watching. Great pics, especially the SD Gundams which look great for their size. I saw some of my own gundams in the pics, great seeing them as I just pass them sometimes without even glancing at them. Can't wait for that nose bleeder figure ;p.

Gah! Sooo...much stuff! Destroy looks better than the promotion pictures but it still lacks internal frame. I would get akatsuki, but I already have the cosmic region version.

What is the size of the strike freedom and destiny with those docking bay? Man...I so want those holders...I was thinking about scratch building one for my PG Strike.

The Wing Zero looks decent enough, but the gundam was totally battle scarred in Endless Waltz so it really doesn't fit the pearl version. I wonder if they fixed all those stupid joint problems on the frame though...mine can't even stand up on it's own even without the wings...

IT'S A GOLDEN SAVIOUR! AHHHHH! They totally did that on purpose.

Ooo, is that a Shin Matsunaga Ver.2 Zaku High Mobility?

Musha Gundam looks crazy big, wish we could have seen the Psyco Gundam.

Is that new RX-78-2 MG just another color variant? Kinda looks like what the Gundam would look like in Full Armor colors, but no extra equipment.

Wish Bandai would get on making MG's for other series, would love to see some MG's from V Gundam or X Gundam.

I was actually really impressed with the HCM-Pro Akatsuki Full Set. I thought that it was neat that the DRAGOON trails can also be used as a display stand.

That Super HCM-Pro RX-78-2 looks cooler than more I see it. It's a shame that I can't afford to buy it. I still don't have an RX-78-2 in my collection and I've been a Gundam fan for about 8 years now... :)

That Desert Colored RX-79[G] Gundam looks awesome too.

LOL I think it's funny that the BB Senshi Stargazer Gundam is the best looking version of the Stargazer Gundam to me.

Great pics as always Danny. I can't wait for your report on the other mecha stuff, especially those 2 awesome Kotobukiya SRW OG kits that they had at that event. Hopefully you can give us the dish on those 2.

@Space Cowboy

That RX-78-2 Gundam is ver. 1.5 in Katsumi Kawaguchi-produced color specs. It's the first in the Bandai Hobby Pro-Shop series to be released this August.

It reminded me of the special edition ver. 1.5 in red instead of black or blue with the same decal set.

Questions to everyone*:

What are the qualities of Gundams that make you (still) attract to it?

If these toys took another form, such, for example, a bird or a dragon, with the same quality that the Gundams are made of, will you still buy it? Why or why not?

Why are Gundams so aesthetically pleasing and entertaining?

*These are just questions out of my curiosity. Please don't be offended.

love photo 9216. Is it really that big? or is that just a closeup shot? I'm leaning more on the former.

I'm not that fond of gundam figures but I do know a good figure when I see one. With regards to tangey's question, I can't really say. I'm not a fan. heheh

@the blind fool

Those are 1/144 HGGS (High Grade Gundam SEED) special coating model kits, if memory serves. But there are a good number of stuff displayed in the Shizuoka Hobby Festival that were for display only like the BB Senshi Astray Gold Frame so I'm not sure if these would roll out as regular merchandise.

@CrazyAnimeTuga

I think the RX-78-2 you're talking about is the Super HCM Pro RX-78-2 Gundam which is at 1/144 scale with the detail and articulation rivaling that of the MG line. ^_^

Woot! I got a PG Wing Zero Pearl coated edition about 8 months ago from HLJ.

The only problems were that:
1. it doesn't come with a stand.
2. It was my first gundam LOL (350$)

So I've been reading your guide over and over to get ready to build it, on top of that I bought the mg wing zero and mg strike freedom to get some practice before touching it and ruining it. The worst part is that, since its a pearl coated version, you can't afford missing a sprue cut. and you can't really sand it down because its special coated, so you can't really airbrush over it. Till I get ready, its gonna stay in its box sadly.

But like Danny mentionned, its identical to the original PG wing zero which is not pearl coated. I'm just a Wing Zero Custom fan, so I had to get it.

ps: I need all the help I can get, if any of you have 1, msg me!
