This time next week I will be at the annual Gunpla Expo getting a load of Gunpla. Its being held from next Friday until the 7th of May in the Shizuoka prefecture where the Gunpla factory is. Just like last year, they will have the latest Gunpla, a diorama section and an artist zone full of Gunpla made by Gunpla fans. They will also have some limited editions too like the clear plastic MG and HG Gunpla that you can see in my previous Chara x Hobby report. I dont know about you but the clear versions look a bit odd to be. Maybe they will look good in the dark with some LEDs stuck inside?
Expect full coverage next week.

Speaking of Gunpla, I see some rather coolsome Gunpla photos at Figure.fm of late. I know that site is slow and buggy but that will all be fixed soon now that I am working full time with my devs building stuff.

Personally not a fan of the clear Gunpla. If there is any news of a new PG at the expo, take lots of pictures please!

Hmm... I'm not sure what to make of the clear Gunpla. I would like to see one up close...

Yes maybe it would look better with LEDs inside or maybe flood lit with red, blue and white LEDs. What would be nice is a clear Gunpla with representation of the mechanics inside. It would need to be at a nice large scale as well. Wouldn't you like to display that on your desk at work!

I really want to go to a Gunpla show... Need to take lots of money along too! ^o^

not at all fan of clear gundams, i dunno but it appears to me they're missing their cool/sinister feel when all things become clear...

I have always hated clear gunpla. I think its because no matter what, a gunpla can't be 100% clear, which in my opinion would look good.

Hope they release some info about that highly anticipated 100th MG!

I think clear/crystal kits are pretty neat, but they are something I wouldn't want to build all the time.

I havnt done a Gundam kit in about a year because you cannot find any kits within a 50 mile radius (I am near a major US City, Philadelphia). The only real way to acquire kits is to go through stores that import everything Japan, OR go to Ebay and pay RIDICULOUS shipping prices out of Hong Kong (because that is where the majority of good kits come out of).

I've sadly fallen out of favor with Gundam kits because I can't find any that are even 1/100 scale. I am very disappointed that model stores in america do not import these kits, probably due to high prices and a lack of interest. Real shame, Ill go back to working on my ships...

I'm not planning to purchase any clear pastic kit. By just looking at it, it seems like it'll break for some reason.

The clear Gundams would be the only kind that you wouldn't want to paint I guess.

I don't mind clear plastic kits if they have matte finish, detailed guts, and no color. Unfortunately haven't seen any Gundam kits like that. Their usual colored gloossy plasticky finish bugs the hell out of me....

I don't know what to think about the clear models. I like how they look, but I wouldent want to pay a lot for them because i couldent paint them. But they would like hellishly cool with some LEDs in them...

Hey Danny.
I recently discoverd you figure fm site. I have been looking for a cool place to post some shots of my recently built strike pg and I thought it would be appropriate to post it on your site since your beautiful strike inspired me to buy it. But i was faced with dissapointment when i found out i could no longer register :(

Could you make an exception and allow me to have an account on your figure fm site? i would really appreciate it.

And on the topic of translucent model kits, i find them really tackey and fit only for a dollar store.

Hey Danny,

Do you know if Advance of Z is a magazine or a book? Where can you purchase it? I looked online at Kinokuniya here in NY, but they don't seem to have it. : /

Gebera04g,
I think its a series that they run in mags but I could be wrong.

Gunho,
I asked and they said that you can take pics of anything apart from stuff in the artist zone.

Kirby,
Tequilla Gundam?

Jason B,
I'm working on the DB structure at the moment and cant open registrations until the launch of the new site - it wont be long.

Crim,
I believe they do show conversion stuff.

-XYZPDQ,
I've seen some on amazon.com - have you tried?

Mambo,
Sure thing.

Isn't the #100 MG supposed to be announced at this event? I'm pretty anxious to find out what it's going to be. As for clear gunpla...I think from a collector's standpoint they're kinda cool since they're limited editions most of the time. However from a builder's standpoint, I think they're rather bleh. Painting over it totally defeats the purpose of it being clear and yet they look kinda crappy if you don't. I'm finally getting back into building gunpla after almost a decade of not (last Gundam kit I built was in like '99 or something). I can't wait to see what pictures you bring back, and I hope we get some new MSIA and or EMSIA annoucements at this thing. Sure it's supposed to be dedicated to the model kits, but one can always hope.

Sorry for the double post, but I just answered my own question. The 100th MG will be announced a month after this event.

Tequila Gundam aka Spike Gundam from G-Gundam... The one with the sombrero.

The greatest Gundam design ever, and not a single kit or msia to be seen

If you really want a bad Model Kit, look for the Clear Endless Waltz Gundams. They are terrible renditions of their non-clear HG counterparts. Since they have nothing inside them, you can see right through. Also, what makes them really bad is that they aren't "crystal clear" they are muted and dull. Check them out, they'll give you a laugh...
