Continuing with the Wonder Festival 2007 Winter shenanigans. Today we are going to look at the Mecha/ETC stuff. When I say "ETC" I mean stuff that really didn't fit in yesterdays Figures post and doesn't fit in tomorrow's Cosplay post.
As with each Wonder Festival, we didn't see any official Gundam stuff apart from the Gunpla that you can buy in the halls. The Total Eclipse line of mecha looked rather nice and I hadn't seen any announcements of that series before.
Seeing the Vader at the Kotobukiya booth made me wish I could get the softparts of my armor soon but looks like it will take another 16 weeks - even though I was quoted 8-12. Get ready for some Costumejunkie style entertainment? orz.

Eric R. in Michigan, those blue-sabered Darth and scuba Luke figures are based on the early pre-production drawing designs for the original film...

Danny, to prevent dying, all u need to do is somehow make money from being an otaku, and your problem will be solved! You've already mentioned that people ask u about this, right?

Finally, female figures of course, lol!!!

What the hell is the robot on pic 7756? It looks like a gold zippo lighter or a gift box or something.

Nice range of figures - i get a bit bored of the similarity of the gundam designs to be honest.
Love those super-detailed Armoured Core figs.
Nice bit of Mazinger too.

I've been enjoying figures a lot lately. Don't think I can pick either figures or Gundam as a preference.

Kerberos would be a nice set of armor. I've never seen cosplay of this. Probably would cost a fortune to buy.

OK... a few questions here..

1) Who is Vader fighting? Are the figures part of the Star Wars Unleashed series?

2) Did the guys who made the figure run out of red plastic? Cuz Vader (in that form) never used a blue lightsaber.

3) Why no Gundams???

Nice pics Danny. I personally perfer mechas over female figurines. By the way Daniel the Star Wars figures are not part of the Unleashed series, since the Unleashed figures are not made by Kotobukiya.

Thanks for the info MonkeyKombat. But I'm still dying to know who is Vader's adversary.
(ID #44925) Posted on 2007/02/28 10:01

@Daniel Ouija

The adversary is none other than Luke Skywalker. He is wearing a breathing appuratus because the spaceship's hull had been compromised.

It is based on the pre-production concept art of Ralph McQuarrie, the man responsible for the look and feel of the original trilogy.

Hasbro are also producing McQuarrie concept figures in their 3 3/4" range. You can currently get a concept stormtrooper (equipped with a light saber), and their are plans to release more.

Wow, these look really cool.

The photos are good, but it is quite hard to judge the size of them in some instances.

How big are the posed Macross mechas?

It's interesting ZOIDS are still being produced. Not really a fan, but i had a couple of them as a kid.

Masterpiece (or is it Revoltech?) Megatron looks very good. I still need to get Optimus Prime (yes, thats right I don't call him "Convoy", what a crap name ~_~).

What are the mechas in the lo-vis paint schemes with USAF and Soviet markings?

heiheit - to answer one of you questions the Darth Vader depicted in the model was based off a preliminary design of Vader, and the crouching one is a preliminary design of Luke Skywalker, although his name may still have been "Starkiller" at the time of the original art. You can see this art and some explanation of it in the documentary "Empire of Dreams" which was released with the original trilogy in the United States.
