Hard parts for my ROTJ Vader armor arrived earlier than I thought. Still need the soft parts before I can actually go anywhere though.

The helmet is humongous and weighs a ton - worried about doing my head in after wearing it for hours on end.
I thought cosplaying as a Stormtrooper was tough but I can see that doing Vader is going to be much more challenging. Unless I carry out some radical mods, I dont think I can go out alone as the helmet is tough to put on...
Vader Helmet (click to enlarge)
This is not the full Reveal helmet where the top of the mask comes off but I'm not really bothered about that ^^;
Vader Helmet (click to enlarge)
Theres lots of detail under the dome which include a few moving parts @.@
I need to remove all the bits n pieces that you see here however and re-attach properly - you can probably make out a piece missing from the left side of the face.
Vader Helmet (click to enlarge)
I may need to get some disposable contact lenses as the helmet is not friendly to folks who wear glasses. For a start, unless you have really small round glasses, the helmet is not going to fit around your face. And even with glasses on, they steam up so you cant see ToT orz
Vader Helmet (click to enlarge)
The chest armor is also huge! I find that I need to walk though doors sideways which makes Vader look like such a pratt!
I just realized that I have complained about how big the armor/helmet and forgot that Vader is supposed to be big ^^;
Vader Helmet (click to enlarge)
Dont fall for claims of "Ready to wear out of the box" - After my experience buying "Ready to wear Stormtrooper armor", I knew that there was no such thing and this Vader armor is no exception. You can see the neck seal in this photo - I need to take all the bits off and glue them back on properly. Many bits came off just by handling it and I would probably loose the other bits if I went out without modding the whole suit...

Not too sure what to do about a voice changer. Does anybody have that Kenner one thats been available for a while? I also need a way to produce Vaders asthma sounds. I have asthma but its not that bad so I need to think of another way to produce that breathing noise. Probably an iPod attached to speakers of something.
More details pics of the armor at a later date.

BTW, going to Wonder festival tomorrow so expect a ton O figurine news soon ^o^

Hello Danny!
Let me be the first to post!
I am glad you got the items. I noticed you had some issues with some of the parts but i am VERY happy the items was not directly damaged by the custom.

Anyway. The issues you reffer to should be fairly easy to fix. If you need any help be free to contact me and i will gladly assist.

As i said to you when you orderd, these items are heavy and big :)
Rember he was 6.7 feet tall with the armor and everything David Prowse was 7 feet tall.

Also please note i said the reveal helmets are not ideal for wearing.

The best helmet is the helmet without the small details. This is why so many got several versions.

If you want one of the standards, contact me back and i will arrange a good price for you.

Best Regards
TMP

I don't know which mask is scarier...

The Vader mask or the USB mask you posted earlier.

If it were up to me, I'd much rather stare into Vader's face than the horror that awaits behind one of those USB jobs....

With Vader, you know what you're about to get.

With the masked kawaii-model...it could be sweet or it could be really horrific!

Can't wait for the figurine goodies report!

Thanks for all your efforts!

--Cheers!

got to say danny the detail is pretty amazing on the helmet. have u tried the armour on, if so is it as constriciting as the storm trooper one, like when you had to sit down with your legs wide open to get "comfortable". LOL

Nice detailing on the vader helmet. I can't wait to see the reaction of people when they see Vader walking down the streets. Maybe you can do the "I am your father" bit.

This helmet doesn't seem confortable at all, dunno maybe it is.
It will hard to breathe using that mask so you probably won't need a device to produce the loud breathing noise.

If you can smoke a carton of Marbolo before donning your vader suit, you'll not need a voice changer.

Greetings; I have the Kenner voice changing Vader mask. The voice changing part mostly adds reverb to your speech but does manage to pitch it a bit lower than your normal speaking voice. If you can naturally pitch your voice low, you'll get a better result, but don't expect to sound like James Earl Jones (unless you happen to be James Earl Jones).

It also comes with the breathing sound and a few sound bites from the film. All features are activated via buttons on the front panel.

Can't wait to see you Vader'ing about Tokyo!

Cheers.

i guess the effects would be like an hour of wearing this to 5 minutes of headbanging :)

good luck with vader!

btw, if you are looking for a good saber, get a force fx, they are around $120 and are made of metal + polycarbonate blade, lights, sounds, everything! I have all four!!

OMNI Strike,
Still waiting for the softparts...

Zer0, Astroblue,
Nice one!

Sprak,
Thanks for the info. So it sounds like its worth getting? I probably need to take it apart and fit it in the helmet. Does it look delicate?

Heiheit,
How about the Master Replica one? I hear that one is good and lights up from the bottom.

Danny, check this out:

I'm sure you'll be able to get one closer to home, I just found this today looking for Star Wars stuff. It's a battery pack and speaker that constantly plays a loop of Vader breathing, designed specifically for inserting into a costume.

Helmet looks ace, by the way.

Danny, if you can find one cheap, yeah, I'd say it might be worth it. I got mine at Wal-mart in the 20 - 30US$ range, but most on-line places seem to be charging way more for it.

It doesn't look too delicate; there is a small mike screwed into the helmet and looks like it would come out fairly easy. The tricky part would be triggering the mike.

The chest plate is attached to the helmet by two straps. One of the straps appears to feed up to the mike. The strap itself is very thin and flat, so I'm guessing there is a small set of wires feeding to the mike to tell it when to switch on and off.

Hope that helps; I can try to snap some pics of the mike setup if you like.

Quick follow-up... there definitely is a wire or wires in the strap. The visible portion of the strap is roughly 10" (that's 25.4 cm for you metric types), so I'd probably tack on at least another 1 - 2" that would be lurking inside the chest plate.

Oooooh cool! Looks pretty big.

Are you going to take out parts from it like you did when you got the trooper helmet?

Cos that will proabbly make it easier to wear. Unless you join it to some shoulder pads for shoulder support, that might ease the load?

Looks really cool. I think troopers are more iconic, but Vader is more menacing - unless youre walking through a door sideways, or your Ipod breathing track skips to a cheery J-pop tune!
I used to scared of Vader when i were a nipper, yknow!
The helmet does look cumbersome, and i thought it would fit on in a similar way to it in the film (collar, faceplate, helmet). The rest of it wont be as bad though - no uncomfortable seporate armour bits - just a thick leather suit. Not one for summer, then!

Looking forward to the pic-fest that will be the wonder festival feature!

I saw a Vader at San Diego Comic-Con once, and he was sitting down every 15 minutes...now I know why, must be the helmet. He was nice enough to stand up for everyone who wanted a picture, but you could tell he was dying in there.

That's a nice Vader costume, though. Hope you have better luck than the person I saw. >
