I've always wanted to have a mascot character for this site since the dawn of time and when I first met Yuko Azami I knew it was time to create one.

Here is the first draft of a character who you will see dotted around the site in the future - the final version will look different and am currently working with Yuko-san on development.
I dont have a name for her yet and thats where I need your help. If you have some suggestions then please submit them. I already have developed a few costumes and poses but if you have any suggestions, please let me know ^^
Update on 2007/01/08: New drafts
Worked on the uniform and eyes. Not sure which set of eyes to go for yet.
And yes - you will see her dressed appropriately for each of the main categories of this site including Idol , gundam and Stormtrooper ^^;
Polls
She's lovely!!
What do you think abaut ばねのにおい name?
( i use a google translator, i hope it's right.
I don't know if this name exist in Japanese: "spring scent")

With the greatest respect to the poster below, I must disagree. "Bane" can be the pronunciation for "Corpse".

Perhaps some pun on "Choo"? Choo-chan?

I hope you dress her up in something that is NOT a girl school uniform, I expect something more original from you... stormtrooper without helmet or anything.

Hum, maybe you should do a mix between mecha/cyborg and cute girl figure, like Gunmm (Alita battle Angel) or something like this. Cause you speak about a lot of thing, not only figurine.

Nice looking character! Very well designed and drawn, though it does look a bit generic. Maybe its the style or the costume...

I think Choo is a good name as well. Or Chu perhaps. Sounds a bit like Chii, which we usually associate with femininity thanks to chobits.

If ever you fancy seeing this (or a SD version) in 3d, I could perhaps give it a shot!

My vote goes for a cross over stormtrooper/ japanese schoolgirl. A little the same way as the Gundam--- elegante or precieuse, don't remember the name but the one with long hairs, cute ribbon and miniskirt.

hold on...you/Danny drew that..
YOU/DANNY-CHOO DREW THAT?!!

man now i feel like a loser since Danny's a know-how-to-do-them-all...

>3< lol

anyway, stick with the current design. it's good. there's a chinese idiom '弄巧成拙', meaning trying to make sth better but end up making it worse...

as for the name...no suggestions.

as for add-ons ... I would say maybe neko-mimis ... or maybe a chibii version for later developments

Chuu-chans signature pose could be blowing a kiss to the camera. Maybe with a wink. Sort of a variation on the standard hi-mi-tsu pose.

And another very good idea from you, Danny (and your friend too, this time!)!!

I like this character. I wonder if you will do something special like make her "answer" the FAQ section, give her a a bio, an own personality, a personal gallery and so on.

I hope she would appear often, in various poses and expressions, in normal, mini (Who said "miniskirt"?! lol), SD/mighty modes, etc., but I would truly enjoy some cosplay (as in wearing very famous outfits from other anime/game characters.
That would be top-notch!! -My favorite (Old-school gamer, yes) RPG girls are Nina from Breath of Fire II, Riesz from Seiken Densetsu 3 and Mint from Tales of Phantasia... Even if I prefer bigger eyes-).

Brainstorming, brainstorming, yes yes. It's one of my few pasttimes.

Oh by the way, I saw that the vote button disappeared when you came with all those great ideas.
I sincerely wish your site didn't plummet in the blog charts!!

If you ever need ideas/suggestions, I would really be happy to help, and I'm very often online!

Keep up the good job and...
Later! Take care!!

If you're still having a tough time finding name for her, do what I do. I search though different baby naming sites on the web for unique names. They're especially good for finding names associated with the country they originate from. I know it's quite unorthodox, but it makes the naming process a lot easier. ^^

I had a feeling you would want to develop a mascot character sooner or later. Can't wait to see how she turns out, I might try drawing her myself, if you don't mind. ^^

looks real cool Danny, what hair color are you gonna use? however imho I think it lacks a little more "Danny Choo"ism, could you ask Yuko-san to add a stormtrooper helmet or blaster. also I think shoulder length hair would suit her better. (but keep the long braids on). ^^ on the other hand, the hair thing might just be a matter of personal taste. btw I hope you don't mind me asking, but where would you use her at?

Well, I've never been good with names, but for japanese names, I truly like Yuki, Madoka and Midori.

For other names, I'm totally clueless (that is why I never invented stories). Ask someone else? XD
I'm eager to see how that will progress.

NICE!... But hmmm, here's something nobody's mentioned... What if your mascot had her own little mini-mascot pet, similar to Lacus Clyne's little robot "Haro" from Gundam Seed???... Your mascot could simply be named "Dansu" (dance), and her little orange pet could be named "Chu", hopping around saying "Chu Chu". LOL!

I think people had some decent ideas, but if she's going to be a mascot IT NEEDS TO BE TAN! Chuu-tan! INDEED!

Other Suggestions:
Danchu-chin (Blame the Kansai cutie from Tonagura for this one. Chiiin.)
団組みちゃん (I like word play! Maybe this one gets lost there... but on the first word in the name, think about the first three letters of your name! BAM! Cross lingual reference!)

And that's all from me.

Hmm... a name, a name for the mascot. Well, not a well know anime character or such. Something orginal and with some thought. Maybe a name with a single kanji. It's cool if your name is a single kanji. How about a season an element or including one? Those always make nice names.

how about:

夏樹 (Natsuki)
萌 (Moe)
うみ was a nice suggestion

Maybe these will help or give you some thoughts.

I like Yuko-san sketch very much. Every mascot needs her 幸福. Maybe a cute maids outfit too.

Love the idea of a mascot. As for a name, I couldn't think of one, but just wanted to say it looks cool. I went to the artist's site, and I was wondering if you could answer a question? On the artist's site there is a boxy barcode-type thing that I've seen on many japanese websites. Could you explain what you do with them or point me to some info please? Thanks!

I was actally thinking when you will have your mascot characters, and was musing to myself what kinda chr will you choose, will it be a girlie one or a mecha, or perhaps a hybrid. So the answer is finally out.

Chu (楚) sounds nice, perhaps chu-tan or chu-chan. which essentially is 小楚 or 楚子. Is this Chinese chr present in Japanese Kanji?

When I have the time and in the mood to draw, maybe I will try to powerup and mechanized her and send to you as fanart.

Bizarre that 67% of people should vote in the negative. The drawings are good.
Not rigid, but full of movement, well balanced and with good line.

That 67% are incapable of objectivity or are being spiteful, either way they can be safely ignored.

There are some good ideas from others floating around!
