Update: Hector uploaded his coverage of the Wii Launch shenanigans - check out his blog for other great photos of Japan (he likes taking pictures of girls without them knowing ^^;)
Looks like Ascii got me covered too in their report.

Its a tough job but somebody has to do it - entertain the poor souls lining up for their Wii. I say poor souls because it was freezing out there - I was wearing 3 layers of Under Armor and was still cold!
My Wii, Zelda and Super Monkey Ball should be arriving today and will bring you a review after (tomorrow or Monday).

Spent the evening with Hector from Kirainet and an independent Spanish film crew going round the Wii hotspots. After being shooed away from Yodobashi in Akihabara, we went to Bic Camera in Yurakucho. One guy at Bic guy tried to shoo us away using a gesture that you would use to shoo away a dog but we ignored him because he looked like a weakling.

Unlike the crowds at Shinjuku for the PS3 launch, there were a ton of TV crew interviewing the crowd. I was interviewed live on Nippon TV for a program called News Zero ( Thanks to Eddie for the screencap ) and for another program on the same channel called Zoom in Super which is apparently due to air next Monday morning at about 7.40AM. Left the scene at about 1AM after the interview - 7 hours wearing armor in the cold was enough for me for one day.
The front of the queue. I read that folks were not allowed to line up outside Bic Camera but today there was a civilized bunch of folks huddled together waiting in line.
You may have seen the US version of a person dressed up like this taunting the PS3 crowds. This guy was just waiting in line but he must have been freezing wearing just a cardboard box. When asked if he was going to sleep standing up - he said yes and closed his eyes.
Entertaining the media and folks in line.
Folks were kind of like caged in boxes like animals - well I suppose we are all animals in some way.
Back of the queue.
I didnt feel the PS3 fever that was felt last time. It could be because Nintendo made loads of Wii so there was plenty to go around. Or it could be that the Nintendo bunch are just a quieter crowd.
More Wii when its gets here.
More Wii launch coverage at Kotaku.
Received a call last Monday night and was asked if I would appear live on a TV show call...(more)

Ha ha! Man I remember waiting in line for my Wii, it was quiet yet hectic. Waiting for so long thinking it will be out of stock which came really close for me!

Anyway, I enjoy my Wii and I can't seem to put it down long enough to do anything else. I beat Zelda back on Monday and I was very, very, very satisfied. Wii is a good console and I don't think you'll tire of it very quickly.

Post pics of it when you get it. XP

I don't think I'll be getting myself a Wii. It just doesn't interest me enough to convince me to buy one. :P

Ive never been much of a fan of Nintendo or their various re-hashed franchises, but i do like their 'back to basics' approach to this console, and the shunning of next-gen technology.
I dont think joe public will bite though - it has to be the latest kit otherwise they will be put off.
Im happy enough with my 360 for now.

^^ You wore it again! it's very cold weather these days. Take good care of yourself.

By the way...
Arrrrg...Everything is late in Korea. Nintendo Korea didn't announce even the launch date. And I couldn't hear even the price of PlayStation3 from SCEK. What are they doing?

A certain retailer in Yongsan offered me one of the handful of (J) Wiis they'd received today ~ I was sorely tempted, but the price he quoted was extortionate ... 500,000 KRW ! Not including a game either O.o It'd actually be cheaper to get a plane ticket to Tokyo and get one in person.

So, that's what I'm going to do !

Before I go booking a ticket - any idea when new stock might arrive, Danny ?

In USA here and I am still hunting down a Wii after 2 weeks of USA launch. Pretty much every store is sold out of the Wii and apparantly,

"will not be getting any more in stock anytime soon for the holiday season".

BUT I have talked with a manager to a store and will be arriving early to wait in line to purchase my Wii this Wednesday. Ill arrive 4 hours early I won't wait in line for a day!

I waited 10 hours for Wii at a local Best Buy. I got Red Steel, Zelda, and was forced to buy Wii Sports bundled in. Honestly, the only perfect game out of these 3 is Zelda. Wii tennis, bowling, golf, and baseball are fun, but boxing is atrocious. I swing as hard as I can, but it rarely detects the movement. Red Steel's problem is that the cursor bounces around without any input from me. Zelda is simply flawless and I can see why they switched it to Wii. Shooting with the bow has never been so intuitive.

The Wii is great. I'm playing Zelda and Trauma Center right now and look forward to what creative developers will come up with in the future. As a side note, Nintendo's plan has worked: my father- who has never played a video game in his life- absolutely loves Wii Sports!
(ID #41827) Posted on 2007/01/02 01:23
While I'd not get one, I'm not really a game player, the Wii sure has one completely original game play method! I think Nintendo has a real winner here.

I bet Sony emulates the controller soon. ;)

I'm losing sleep cause of my Wii. I really can't put to word how awesome Zelda is. Played my friend's Super Monkey Ball, and that games addicting too with the party games shenanigans. I love the Wii sports, although I am probably playing it too hard cause I GET A WORK OUT PLAYING! I'm wondering how Nintendo will incorporate the Wii's controls into Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Any chance I could get your Wii number, so my Miis can mingle with yours half way across the world?

Danny maybe you should become a politician, you already have a lot of media coverage of you and gaining fan population. Few more years and maybe you will rule the country hahahha :-)

I've tried Wii this past week, played baseball and tennis; oh it’s so much fun and easy to play. I loved it.

I'm buying it, but currently waiting for a couple of reasons:
1. I'm kinda poor right now after purchasing my new laptop.
2. I'm collecting more proof the Wii won'd just become a dust collector. It's a major problem with casual gaming consoles...
3. I still can't decide either to get the Wii or the PS3 first.
