Hecktic day ^^;
Got back home at 3AM after joining in on the line-up-in-the-cold-all-night fun and games tonite. Confirmed that my PS3 will arrive later today so didnt get to stay with the crowds (darn).
ellcy90 and I drove round to the various places that were selling the PS3 and this is how it went...

This is outside Yodobashi in Akihabara. I dont think people knew that Yodobashi were doing the PS3 because there were about 6 people in the queue and it was already 1AM. If you go now you may still be able to make it.
BTW, Neither Google or YouTube would take this short video clip of tonight's events so I just uploaded the raw AVI file - should play on yer mac or win machine.
PS3 Tokyo Launch (click to enlarge)
Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku. A few hundred people camped out. I would say 30% (?) were foreigners.

Sakuraya Hobby Kan - nobody lining up. Sakuraya were getting rid of their lot through a raffle.

Bic Camera Shinjuku - again nobody and again raffle.

After walking for a few minutes we see the end of line in site with the "Sold out" sign.

Then its off to Akihabara. This is outside Asobit City. They got 150 20GB models and 80 60GB models but there were way more than 230 people in line. The people at the back of the queue hoping that the folks in front would either die from the cold or get eaten by a starving person.

This was the queue at Yodobashi Akiba - nobody! How come nobody knew?

Akiba Station at 1.30AM. Had to sneek in some Moe.
Dont forget to check out ellcy90-sans blog later for more pics. See you in a bit with the PS3 unpacking porn.

Looks like you must have some pretty good connections if your PS3 is guarunteed - without queuing!
Nice you were there to cheer up those desperate PS3 seekers.

Im surprised how many systems they are getting per shop. Ive heard that some huge outlets in the US are only getting about 5 or so each!

Wow, this brings back memories when I queued up for my psp when it launched, I didnt get home till 4am. But I'd rather wait till the rush hype has fizzled out, hopefully the price would have gone down. Its a great system though, definately on my wanted list. But why the different sizes? Its like they copied the 360 packages. Ditto for the video post, I'd like to see its graphical power.

Yea if I could go to Japan for the launch of the PS3 I would be there in a heartbeat. But I don't know...im gonna wait on the PS3 and its not just because of the $600 pricetag...btw Danny, I heard awhile ago on a TV show here in America called "Attack of the Show" that the Japanese release of the PS3 was only going to cost around $410 (around 48,230.35 yen) is this true? I cant find any info about it on the net...

DarkMirage in Singapore
It's ¥49,900 for the basic pack, which is around 420 USD.

The premium pack does not have an official retail price from Sony in Japan, so the retailers are free to set the price themselves, which often end up being more expensive than the US version set to 599 USD.

Thanks for the info Darkmirage. So the basic PS3 is about $80 cheaper in Japan then it is here. And if the 60GB model can be more expensive then our $600 why would someone want the 60GB model? oO

I'm mostly looking forward to Wii's arrival here, more than everything concerning PS3...
Only a new game from Fumito Ueda and his team Ico would convince me in buying a PS3;
anyway, have a good play with it... =)
