Going through the junk mail this morning and saw that NTT have lowered their Optic Fibre FTTH 100Mbps lines down to 3,728 yen !
And there is me thinking that I was getting value for money for my 100Mbps connection at about 5,000 yen.
I have been using this line since March-ish and even now I still have to rub my eyes sometimes because of the average 7MB/second.
Another thing about NTT's 100Mbps Flets connection - you get to access a site packed with excusive content like the Seed Destiny site where you can watch all episodes of Gundam Seed online!
Above:Acguy points to the new monthly price for a 100Mbps connection while Takase Mizuki looks on.

I have the slightly different mansion type hikari premium. I saw in the brochures the many features that come with the service, including on demand anime, but never figured out how it works :/ Have you ever come across some sort of english explanation of ALL NTT's services, and how to use them, during your travels on the net? Their english FAQ and service pages are wonderfully vague.

My Japanese teacher couldn't believe that we get only a few megabit lines here in the UK. I think I cried when she told me about 100Mbs in Japan.

Be-careful! this is Not 100 MBPS in fact there is 2 solutions

 1) Home usage I you share 100 with other people neighbored or inn a flat with the all building

 2) office usage, you have one ligne for you

Bus in all case you never have the maximum of 100 but between 50 to 70 if you want something secure it will cost you 200 000 yen (1800 usd)per month and you will have around 90 to 95 Mbps

I wanted some month age to take TW's for my office buts when they told me that they cannot guarantee any speed even 50 MBPS, I gave up and kept my 8 MBPS

Thats unreal speeds for that price. We could only dream of something like that here in America. We normally range from 1.5megto 3.0meg for around $50 to $60 a month...

Probably the fastest line currently here in US for home consumer is from Verizon. their Fios service provides 15 Mbps for around $45/month
It will be a long time until US provides a cheap optic cable internet for consumer

Remember, the line is 100Mpbs but the max throughput that I have been getting is about 7MB per second - which is still nice ;-)

Seriously, I'm so jealous! I think it'll still be a while before speeds are like that in the US. Ah well. At least I don't have dialup...

HOLY #$*@!! U guys are SOOOO lucky, come to our country. India has better priced and faster lines than us!

The best we have here is ADSL, and that alone is SLOW and through the roof priced. If we lucky we get between 2 and 10 mbps, and it HARD CAPPED to 3gig!
check www.hellkom.co.za if u wanna see what I mean.

I dont understand how providers outside Japan charge something like 50 pounds or 50 USD for a 1 - 5MB line and put a cap on it!

I end up downloading something like 50GBs a month and am glad there is no cap in Japan.

"downloading" as in downloading Opensource stuff... (a zillion copies of Knoppix...)
