A few snaps taken around Tokyo. The first one says "(we) wont let you grope. (we) wont forgive (you)" with a side note saying "offenders get from 6 months to 7 years in jail."
And the one below says "groping is a crime" with the side note "saying 'it just happened' is still a crime."
Perversion on the trains in Japan is a problem so much so that there have been women only carriages for quite a while now. But there are some who are taking this situation to their advantage.

Many young girls are accusing men of groping them. A typical case is that two girls work together. After they designate their target, one of the girls will follow the man off the train and say "Sawatta no ne?" or "You touched me." The second girl would join in as a stranger and say "yeah I saw you touch her."
The first girl would then say, "give me 40,000 yen and we can forget about this or I go to the police."

The video below shows another tactic. A woman bumps into a man (who had both hands in his pocket) and falls to the floor crying saying that he touched her. The man was falsely accused of groping her and spent the night at the police station.
The woman approached the police a week later to confess that she did it because she wanted ”private settlement money."
Below is another example of how men are the target. A 24 year old man was arrested for making his girlfriend stand close to a target on a carriage and say that she was touched. The 24 year old was later arrested after his girlfriend betrayed him and confessed that they tried to set up their target for money.
Below: Women only carriages are only "women-only" effective between rush hours when the trains are packed.
Such is the problem that men have lately been asking for "men only carriages" as reported by Japan Probe and Zak Zak. Would be interesting to see if these carriages are approved. Do you think that men only carriages are a good idea? Would you get on one to avoid the chance of being falsely accused of groping somebody?

In the meantime, men can buy these straps which are attached to nothing but shows that their hands are occupied - a bargain at 525 yen.
And if you cant get hold of these straps however, you can simply wave your hands about like this bloke in the video below.

LOL @ last video Danny

having a Men only carriage won't solve anything

vice versa with women only carriage

though i remember hearing that if a girl doesnt get groped in Japan that she isnt pretty or good enough..

Your last line made me think that some (perverted in that case) people really have the worst, lamest excuses for their weird hobbies/fetishes/illustrations of impulses, etc. to be condoned.

I still think Japanese trains are the most pleasant and safe to ride. No matter how insanely packed the trains manage to get, there seems to rarely be any sort of incident. I much rather have it that way than in some other countries where you have to continuously watch who may be standing behind or next to you. I can handle a woman falsely accusing me of being a groping me. Being robbed or pick pocketed straight up sucks.

That's actually quite a good idea, but i wonder if it isn't very confusing for tourists.
I mean, not that it would be a bad thing to accidentally hop in a train with only woman aboard XD.

TBH, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the number of false accusations would be greater than the actual number of groping incidents.

it's a crime which is hard to prove yet can be taken advantage of by one party. Rape is similar in that the woman can accuse and then the guy is castrated, even if he is innocent.

groping =/= rape

If a woman is touched it is just emotional harm, rape is not only emotional but physical too and should be investigated and punished to the extent of the law. There are ways to find out about rape if the victim goes to the hospital like they should, and thus has something groping doesn't...evidence.

this kind of segregation would solve some groping issues, BUT, I can only fixate to think later on in the future, more trains will switch over to gender separation, if any at all circumstances will push it to that extent. I say things are fine the way they, like toast and butter. Don't all of a sudden add mayonnaise. These are the small and intricate things that make up holy hell Japan

i remember visiting tokyo last year and ALWAYS ending up (by sheer coincidence) on a Ladies Only carriage. Slightly embarrassing but we always moved. The ladies were always just giggling until we figured it out and moved on, but then again we also made it a point to travel when it wasn't rush hour. Still, a sexual assault accusation shouldn't be taken lightly and anything to ease minds of the innocent should help.

I find it sad that you have to seperate men and women, why can't everyone just be together and live in a peaceful environment?

Oh, back to the reality, men only carriage could solve the problem for the moment, but in the longer terms I think it would do more damage than good.

Also, in before JAV porn about a busty hot babe trapped inside a men only carriage.

I find it amazing that just an accusation is enough to land someone in jail for this. It would require proof in the U.S. or the accuser would run the risk of being convicted of making false accusations.

well if the problems still continues despite efforts being made to curb the problem,i think i may know a drastic answer to solve the problem.how about a curfew?

curfew solution 1:
here how it works:at certain hours(eg:8am-9am) of the day women are allowed outside to get to work first and the men must remain at home during this hours and if any men(even if he is diguised as a women)who is detected during the curfew hours will immediately arrested and appropriate justice will dealt to him so on and so forth.

curfew solution 2:
split areas in transport terminals one for the men and the other for women and both genders are not allowed to cross each other lines and if they do break the rules, appropriate justice will be taken and so on and so forth.
this way men and women take different routes of transport.

btw this is only a suggestion so take your pick as both have benefits and drawbacks.

and what if i want to go to work together with my girlfriend? or take her out in the evening?

please, this is ridiculous.

a better solution would be to better educate people from child age.
men should know how to behave in public areas and be able to control their desires. females should strengthen their character, do martial arts and in general learn not to be affected by humiliation.
i'm no expert, but i'd think gropers get most of their kick from feeling the humiliation of their victims. if the victim kicks their ass instead of being embarassed and retreating like a rabbit, that would surely change something.

in short: women should get more balls and men should lose some. ;)

If I was only a busy Japanese train with women around, I'll put my hands on my head like when I was in primary/elementary school and when we were naughty, the teacher would stop us by telling us to put our hands on our head. Then I'll leave the train with my hands on my head and if any women were to accuse me, I'll slowly walk to a camera and talk to them with my hands on my head. Stupid looking and may get pick pocketed but will make sure I won't be falsely accused.

hmm women only cars were already a dangerous precedent. an unfortunate necessity but a violation on personal liberty.

mens only is downright silly. whats next? japanese only? foreigners only?

you've two hands. its not a difficult concept and one that even this gaijin has figured out. use one to hold the rail/rings. use the other to hold a book/newspaper even if you dont plan to read or know how to read.

Very true and I always pull something out to read and use both hand. On the rare occasion I get to sit down.

It's a crime against everyone and needs to stop. Women shouldn't feel they need to worry, guys shouldn't feel they need to protect their wives or girlfriends and guy shouldn't need to keep their hands in view to prove they are no criminals.

Things will stay as they have for the time being. Guy will do as we always have and keep ourselves out of trouble...

However, I hate to say the Japanese are going to need to stop being so passive about such things.  If a guy see this going on he needs to be subtle and intervene.  Like ripping the pervs arm off... ^^;

I've seen some TV specials about women getting groped but men only carriage might be little too far fetched at this point. I think number of women getting groped is too greater than man getting accused of groping for money. I just hope I don't get involved in such an accident while I'm in Japan >_< I usually avoid rush hour traffic so I might be safe though.

Natsukashiiii...
The (IMHO) best Trooper Dance video yet!

Anyways, yeah, if they have a separate train for women, and now men are also being harassed, maybe it's a good idea to just keep separated trains and reserve some for couples or people who don't have a problem with that.

The real problem is too many people on trains.... but this is far more complicated to solve.

Japanese companies needed to have more flexible working hours so people could manage rush hour.

I mean, groping probably only happens when the train is so packed, people can't even move or see what's happening around.

This kind of segregation is just like sticking your finger in dam to stop it from leaking. It's a shortsighted solution to a much larger problem. The thing is, the problem is practically unsolvable. Maybe Japanese women should modify their clothing in strategic areas to deliver an electric shock to a possible groper? Maybe we will just have to wait for personal force fields to stop this kind of thing.

I actually think a Men-Only carriage would just increase crowding in the normal carriages, making groping easier to get away with and an even MORE common, thus making false accusations more and more common and lucrative.

Separating men and women would be wrong in so many ways. Not only would it not prevent incidents it would also cause capacity issues. We know it happens in crowded trains and if half the train is for men and the other half is for women then it's a problem if twice as many men shows up than women.

Installing security cameras would likely be cheaper than dealing with the capacity problems and odds are that people working together on acts like this would be recorded together elsewhere.

Also if men and women aren't allowed to be together anymore then Japan would just worsen the lack of children issue.

Nice video, the way all the people ran up to dance with you... but if I'd waved my hands like that on a crowded train it'd be easier to get falsely accused '_'

Well, people can really take advantage of anything... talk about tactical. At least now I know what to do; haul along my Gravity Hammer/Colossal Blade Type 3/cosplay as S. Freedom and I'd be safe.

Sure isn't a easy sollution to this problem, but I think separate people isn`t good too... The principal problem is japanese mentallity itself, if some pervet touch you, simply hit him or scream!

rather than having men and women carriages only which will create too much administrative work and timing of train a big problem. why not divide the space for females and males only.dividing each cabin accordingly

That kinda rocks in the vid. Men only carriage eh, seems life is hard over there since some girls are abusing the enforced law on the train.
