Haha, got me all excited for nothing then :(
i thought japan wasn't allowed to have an army? i don't approve of war, but i think this suit is AWSOME
Yeah, they can't have an army, that's why they call it self-defense force (JSDF)
hohoho. Are those bullet proof pants he's wearing? I want them for sure.
so the new japanese weapon system is basically a whole bunch of current (and last gen) tech bolted onto a person. woah... ¬_¬ They could have at least done something cutting edge...
hahaha, I love new military technology. I wonder how long it will be before someone invents an even crazier armour piercing bullet. lol, A while ago, we had some Aussie/Singaporean researchers building a gun/turret thingo that fired 1 million rounds per minute, remember that?
Ya I remember that. It was called the metal storm isn't it. I doesn't only shoot a million rounds of bullets per minute. It can also shoot 5000 explosive rounds per minute.
I'm from Canada and our military is known for being understaffed, underequipped and over-mobilized. Such suits would never see the light of day in Canada because its hard enough for our military to get the basics... like tanks, jets and helicopters.
NOOO~~! I was waiting so much that they would have brought Gundams here too. My career as a mecha pilot is ruined! Bullet proof pants...XD
@Evo_Spec japan does have an army it is called the JSDF (japanes self defense force) and is not refered to as japanese armed forces it is under full civilian control they do have some restrictions for some weapon systems such as long range surface to surface missiles @Insectice youre talking about the metal storm system that system can only be used for for anti aircraft missions and as an CIWS i heard that this system will be adapted for handguns and assault rifles but its too expensive
Looks like a SP system for a infantryman. Does look slick, I reckon. As for the military around here, they're decent enough. A bit lacking behind in technology but motivated to do their job.
Looks like urban ops to me. The military here are training ppl to use and wear those equipments. I think the US military has been using that for a long time.
erm....I've used better stuff when I was in the army here.... What a disappointment from a project named "gundam"
In Russia, Gundam rides you. News from Russia fronts! http://youtube.com/watch?v=RdNPCscd9o0

防衛省のガンダムにはがっかりだよ! でもファンネルは開発されたらしい。 空中で停止や旋回もできるらしい 自立移動やビームがでたら最強の日本になると思うのだが。 ファンネルの動画はこちらにアップしました。 http://chikidon.livedoor.biz/archives/50915956.html

they should be sued for misusing the name... Maybe they'll unveil next that the F22EX in discussion is a radio controlled model F2 made by kyosho..
It seems that Japan is planning to do a Soldier Modernization Program (SMP) for their infantrymen with emphasis on urban combat, possibly emulating America's Future Force Warrior program. For urban scenarios, the gear he's wearing do seem suitable, but will probably hamper his movement a lot. Giving soldiers more protection is a double trade-off: while this increases their chances of survival from getting shot, it will also reduce their mobility and make them burn more stamina. Also, Japan should consider making a carbine SOPMOD version of their Type 89 assault rifle. Based on the picture, the Type 89 doesn't look like a suitable assault rifle for CQB. Overall, I see nothing new here as everything they did has been done before by SMPs from other countries. If you ask me, it's unnecessary for a self-defense army to spend billions of dollars on a SMP, as these programs are often just testbed in researching future military technology, and most likely only few will actually be adopted and taken into military service. Take America's Land Warrior program for example: after billions of dollars were spent, only the Interceptor vest was taken into service, not the cameras mounted on rifles, not the helmet mounted cameras for the commander's observation, not the fancy GPS tracking system to avoid friendly fire, and the OICW was simply cancelled, as with the H&K XM8 assault rifle that were supposed to replace the M16/M4 rifle family. Increased of cost per infantrymen (imagine a soldier with a pricetag of an upgraded Humvee) is probably the reason. As for my country's military, their current equipment is just adequate and none too fancy, perfect for a self-defense army. One thorny problem that is facing my country's military is maintenance: it's depressing to see my country procuring new equipments but forgetting the purchase of spare parts. Thankfully, my country's special forces are quite top notch thanks to training assistance and joint training exercises with other special forces groups from the US and UK.
@ GundamJehutyKai Yeah, that Metal Storm thing right? @ Evo_Spec They aren't allowed to have one, by right. They got away with it by calling it a "Self-Defense Force" Although last I heard, the US were talking with Japan on re-allowing their military back or it may already have been done.
@ achraf1989 Metal Storm? On Handguns and rifles? How the hell did they think to fit such a huge thing on a handgun? o.O
LMAO! What a disappointment... OH well, maybe in the near future...
This is obviously not the Gundam people asked for, but it's not bad at all. I feel they should have more equipment (Got to protect his neck!) and high-tech gadgets. People, think that they haven't mastered bipedal robots yet (even if they look fairly advanced now -Except for the Asimo incident-). And for costs... So if the Japanese plan for getting more prepared for world conflicts, I am not sure world peace would come anytime soon.
lol... i dun see the point of the GPS thing then... its liekt elling ursef oo no i am dieing... can't u figure that out urself? -.-" if u've been shot or something
I'm soo going to draw something better for the equipment Useless as the vital sign might be... at least they should have made it look better aesthetically, not like a cumbersome idiots
here comes disappointment T_T oh well, we can dream can't we ^__^
what a let down.
The scientists who came up with the name must be a Gundam fan as well ^^
High maintenance, eh? Wonder if they can afford the mass issue...
looks like the guy is in a paintballing outfit or something.
lol looks like the dude is just beat up and forced to wear the outfit or something :D
This has got to be a cover-up hoax! ... I don't think they will announce something like that even if they do have one.. Actually, I'm pretty darn sure they have the REAL twang stored somewhere in their off limits "area 51s" and classified above Top Secret. LOL Imagine that if Bandai is already producing those High, Master & Perfect grade Gundam model kits, that means they already have a rough blueprint of the real thing. Now all they need is to build it on a 1:1 scale, add a generator to power up and install a decent OS to run it. Ok am I being over optimistic? I seriously wanna see the real thing! LOL Ψ(`∇´)Ψ
Ohh well i guess maybe a real gundam will show up somewhere in the "far" future....
i nearly flew to japan to choke u (if your cereals didnt choke u)...^^; okok..maybe i should choke the japan defense ministry..^^;

Whatever happened to my twin buster rifle? N-jammers? Genesis?
Was expecting at the least something like this before I clicked on the link on gunota that day ==> http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/geekend/images/powerloader.jpg geez, what a letdown...
@ Jimmy2buc here is a video about it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DRmuljq9yw
But I want to pilot Shin Musha Gundam T_T
here is another video about the metal storm handgun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqW5bG2M3x4
Over here our military equipment is made up of second-hand stuff from other countries. I don't even know why we even bother buying F-16s when we can only afford 5. Our unarmed and knife combat is tops though. Other countries have our personnel train their people on it.
Hahaha, I broke into laughter as well. It actually looks more like a paint-ball battle-game outfit! Well, at least they didn't name it the "Storm Trooper" system... Although I'd hate to see the "Transformer" system! =)
It looks uncomfortable as all hell, and I've worn stuff like that. Starting with the helmet, all that crap on it makes it look like it's heavier than it needs to be. And probably ill-balanced to boot. I don't know about you, but I don't need a monitor telling me if I've been hurt or not. Usually I can figure it out on my own. The chinstrap doesn't look particularly comfortable, either. Knee and elbow pads are the bane of my existence. The body armor looks kinda interesting, though. A combination vest/shorts thing, it looks like. Probably heavy, probably moderately practical. They'll probably do a limited issue wear-test and then decide the whole thing sucks. What looks good on paper and what works in the field aren't always the same thing.
Cadet, knee pads are worth it...I'm not talking about the kind they give you at LDAC from your father's time in the Army. And those pants? Really?! I'd rather have the IBA #$&@-flap over knickers any day of the week.
Nah, they are hiding the real Gundams somewhere else. Tokyo bay area, or in underground Tokyo or something. :P Military in brazil... well, I really don't know. Apart from a mission in Haiti and from being used to help the police in cities like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, I don't really know how it works. But enlisting is obligatory at age 18 for men, though you only get in if you really want to (at least here where I live). Anyways, the japanese military doesn't need Gundans anyways. They developed the technique of the fist of the north star... "Omae wa mou shindeiru"
Is the japanese military trying to play paintball with terrorists and such? 0.0
I think the Israeli Defense force has probably the best equipment, thinking that they are always the target of terrorism... But yea, I think that looks pretty crumy...
@voltesX i dont have much info about the philippine air force but wasn't the F-16 offer for 26 units the JAS-39 and F-18 were also considered its about time they get rid of those freedom fighters
It doesnt look like a Gundam at all =(
I thought I said real Gundams should be about 2.5 meters tall? This isn't 2.5 meters tall! LOL. :P
You would think they would at least have some type of advanced robotic weight carrying system to reduce fatigue (like the one our army is developing), or a Mega-Particle-beam-Cannon. I mean.. come on.
Id much prefer to be dressed as a storm trooper. sure i wont get the protection but at least id make the enemy laugh which will buy me precious seconds to make my move...........& run away!!!! If the 'gundam doesnt weigh in @ a few tonnes stand almost 16.7m tall with a load of hi-tech gadgetry & big enough weapons to kill a moose im not interested....
Hah! No thanks.
soldiers over here are very brave they fight against terrorism since 20 years ago until now in the great jungle of my country...its sad that they dont get a good budget to carry on sometimes
No.
oh this stinks... i want mobile suite gundam lol can I trade this outfit for a real gundam? didn't think so! -.- well, I can't say much about military in USA as I only been here for 7 years. In Belarus military is very poor and only excitement they get is when they get to do some exercise. The only time I saw military armors was during military parade celebrating end of WW2. I did read about the new F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II those are some nice fighter planes.
Is that an M16 he's holding? O_o Why would they give them that and not an MP5? Just seems that if you're going to wear as much body armor as the Bomb Squad you might want to have a gun you can actually move with
I dunno what that gun is, but it's not M16, and MP5 is only good at shorter ranges becuase of its small 9mm rounds.
I remember seeing something on America's Land Warrior battle armour being developed: (http://www.popularmechanics.com/ technology/military_law/4215715.html) Although it has been having some issues, complaints about it being too heavy, etc. Although its cool with the heads up display mounted over your eye so you can see where your buddies are, as well as the camera so you can see around corners using infared, nightvision, etc.
The US army's future warrior system is much better looking. That picture look more like it some one who are going to play air guns or paintball. Try playing or looking at the soldiers from the game, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advance War Fighter (GRAW). The soldiers' armor and computer based HUD/communication technology is almost as real as the real thing developing by the Pentagon. The only problem is the size of the computer. If any country is going to make big Mech, it would be Japan. You guys do have the best computing technology. 8 PS3 = 1 super computer. But the only problem is how the Mech will move, since it so heavy.
please just give us something that is light and easy to move around in! i cant believe that soldiers actually want heavy armour when they can not get shot at in the first place with goo
