501st Legion

First off, pardon for this somehow unrelated anime/otaku/Japanese post. Was reading through Danny's past trooper posts last night and was inspired to ask this question. Is there a 501st Legion Garrison in your region? If yes I'm interested to know what do they do. ^^; The Singapore Garrison here is a non-profit volunteer group. Other than appearing in major events/parades, the local 501st also do charity work which I felt was great. One is trooping for a good cause. ^^; Recruitment flyer above. 501st has very strict regulations with regards to the armour you have. Non-compliance to their standards means Vader don't want you. :-(

Photography Question

Hi all, I have a photography question here but am afraid to ask in photography forums for fear of being flamed for asking n00bish question so decided to try my luck here since the people here are nice and helpful. ^^; Ok, most of the time i take pics of my figures outdoor. sometimes against a scenery like the one above. As we know, figures are very small so i have to position my camera close to the figure or zoom in to make the figure look bigger. So the problem is, when I do that, if i focus on the figure, the background gets blurred (example), if i focus on the background, the figure gets blurred (example). The above shot of Haruhi was the best I can capture through trial and error. Any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated. I have cookies. ^^; Oh btw my camera is the Nikon COOLPIX P5100 digital. Will a DSLR be easier to get the shot I want?

Clare Goes on a Hunt

So here we have Clare (by Megahouse) looking determined and ready for a hunt. The quality of the figure is mediocre. I hope to see a decent Clare figure in future. more pics of Clare here

Stormtrooper Helmet

In the Japanese Lessons post, Danny showed us the inside of his Stormtrooper helmet. In the above pic, the top one is mine and the below one is Danny's. Mine is made in 2007 by Master Replicas based on the Stormtrooper in Star Wars episode IV A New Hope. The eye lenses are green but mine comes in 2 pieces. Danny's one seems to have a chinstrap while mine doesn't. The cushion on the top is different too. One thing I'm disappointed is the helmet is not designed for people wearing glasses. I'm not able to wear my glasses in them due to the tightness. orz. Just curious, are there any troopers here? I wanted to join the local 501st Legion but the only way to contact them is via e-mail at the website. But the e-mail page doesn't work at all. orz

Haruhi Goes to Town

Inspired by Danny's trip to Germany, I dicided to bring Haruhi sightseeing around town as well. If anyone is interested to see more, you may click here. Once there, click "Click here to see more of Haruhi’s trip to town" to expand. Figmas are really convenient to carry around. They are small and flexible and fits in your bag or pocket. They even come with a figma bag to keep all the accessories like extra hands and faces. Nice touch Good Smile. ^^;

Nida and Windows Vista

Here's what my desktop looks like. Lovely Nida wallpaper in 1680x1050 resolution photographed by Danny. ^^; I like my desktop clean with as little icons as possible. But I have a habit of dumping everything I download onto the desktop. When it gets too messy i will then put the files into their rightful folders. I'm using Windows Vista as you can see. Works well for me. The one thing I like about Vista is that all the folders are able to show thumbnails of the last two added files in that folder. On the bottom left is Winamp playing the Macross Frontier OST. Love all the songs especially track 8: What 'bout my star @ Formo by Ranka. ^^; Other softwares I frequently use are Photoshop for image editing, Firefox to surf the internet and utorrent for open source stuffs. ^^; Btw just curious, any Vista users here? Previously I was using using Windows Many Errors for the past 7 years until i got Vista.

Haruhigelion Anime Announced

In a shock revelation this afternoon, Gainax announced a joint partnership with Kyoto Animation to produce Haruhigelion, an anime about a bunch of high school students and giant robots. New information about the storyline will be released shortly. During the press conference today, the anime OP was also shown exclusively to attendees.

Sorry for the non Japanese related post. Just wanna share this piece of news I read in the papers today. Vandals used a hammer and screwdriver to vandalise England's world-famous Stonehenge, the first such incident for decades. The night attack by two men last week involved the central megalith in the 5,000 years old ring of standing stones said the conservation body English Heritage, adding that they could have been looking for a souvenir.
