Well for this site specifically - I never planned to sign up for. I don't really consider myself an "Otaku" or an "akiba-kei" ect ect. However I had this place bookmarked and found myself coming back time after time. I guess you could say Danny has made me an Otaku. Great blog posts and interesting content finally convinced me to join.
