Currently a student in Computer Engineering, I have plans of studying Japanese at the University I'm transferring too as well.
I want to learn Japanese mostly because I can see myself living there someday, not really for the otaku culture, but because of the technology. Going a bit more in depth, here in the States consumer technology is lagging years behind some parts of the world. Namely Japan.
Japan being one of the nations on the bleeding edge of that, is a huge reason why I want to live there, so I can work for a company that is on the frontier of technology. Naturally the otaku culture is a plus!
