For those people who don't want to use LiteStep for their desktop since it is bulky + buggy, I recommend them using customized XP themes. This, go along with some other customization can also give you a nice desktop without losing precious RAMs.

The second most heavily modified desktop I've ever made.... the first one was posted yesterday.
