For some it's reassuring knowing that they are sterile :D ( View formatted comment » )

They still lack: Bullet proof assault vehicles, bullet proof vests, grenade launchers, semi-automatic weapons, attack dogs, rifles, helicopters and tracking devices on cars and bikes. But all of that will be useless unless they have a response time of under 5 minutes since the thieves can bypass all of the systems and empty a house in 10. ( View formatted comment » )

Personally I think people have become board of living. Nothing excites them any more. Nothing to live for so they go out and seek some adventure. Next thing you will see is that they are banning the carrying of knives. People will then just start to use different things like sharpened bicycle spokes. 10 times more lethal, has a small entry wound and very little blood is visible. If you know what you are doing you can turn someone's insides into mush without the person moving or making a sound. And when they ban that they will just swit... ( View formatted comment » )

The knife is actually quite useless for self defence. More of a useful tool for doing stuff like changing plugs, opening servers, fixing the car, opening packages, opening milk boxes, etc.... ( View formatted comment » )

I always carry my knife with me (Leatherman Surge). It has a 9cm long straight as well as serrated locking blade. It often comes in handy and I never go anywhere without it. ( View formatted comment » )

I've been using the iBurst technology for over a year now. Overall the technology is rather good and has a lot in common with cellphone technology. You get peak 2Mbps but you usually get about 1Mbps due to contention ratios. Unfortunately the service provider over here doesn't care too much about it's customers. ( View formatted comment » )

Yeah that's how easy it used to be to get hold of them. But things have changed and you are now limited. Eg. no full- or semi-automatic rifles and no full-automatic pistols. You may not own any military weapons. You are also limited by the number of weapons as well as the amount of ammunition you may own. All of that is of course after you have done a gun proficiency course and the police have come to interview you as well as inspect your safe and premises. A air guns on the other hand, well you are allowed to own up to a 4.5mm (.177... ( View formatted comment » )

I'ĺl save neither unless it's really far to the shore. In that case I'll pick the one with the best flotation potential. BTW. that's just wrong and scary in so many ways including the fact that there will be people who would buy this. ( View formatted comment » )

Dumbass. He has too much money. A second hand parachute costs around R12000 - R15000 (¥184539 - ¥230674) I do skydiving on the weekends and you have to deploy your main canopy at about 3000 feet so that you still have enough time to open your secondary if something goes wrong with the main one. Yeah it seems risky but there are less sky diving incidents than car accidents percentage wise. I suppose that is because they are so strict in the sport. ( View formatted comment » )

What have they got against open source? I mean I use it all the time. At home, work. About 80% of our business runs on it? ( View formatted comment » )

I tested my iBurst connection from home and got 826kbps down and 183kbps up. I pay R600 (¥9741) per month for a 3.5GB cap which they proxy and shape to their liking. Really sucks. ( View formatted comment » )

I got 243kbps up and 143kbps down and that is on a uncapped business ADSL package costing about R1350 (¥21918) per month. Not that fast if you take into account what you can get in some countries but it's one of the faster internet connections available over here. We are fortunate to have had gotten an uncapped connection since most other connections are capped. ( View formatted comment » )
