DVDs of this sort are sadly not rare in Japan (shudder). ( View formatted comment » )

Those old PG Tips ads were brilliant. "Dad, do you know the piano's on my foot?" "You 'um it son, I'll play it" No-one writes lines like that anymore. I thought I'd seen another version of that Erika which was much nicer, and I was right - its a kit. Sadly I don't buy kits now... ( View formatted comment » )

The first anime I was aware of watching was Marine Boy, AKA Marine Kid in US. That really does show how old I am, sorry. I didn't actually get interested in anime until I saw Kikis Delivery Service in the early '90s though! Mind you a lot of people start with Ghibli movies... ( View formatted comment » )

Around here they keep lines of cones and signs in place for months after the roadworks are actually finished. The only problem here is finding decent shoes because I don't like trainers... loads of cheap ugly rubbish but good shoes are as hard to find as good women. I was told there is a risk of salmonella from raw eggs. I buy figures whenever I can, which is not often - I do know a good dealer but he relies on US import! The stuffed dog looks like Menchi from Excel Saga (anyone remember that??) ( View formatted comment » )

I've been into weird stuff since I was about 14, which is around 300 years ago, so figures etc are just part of the decor. ( View formatted comment » )

When I learned to ride a motorcycle you could ride a moped (up to 50cc) at 16, but you had to be 17 before you could ride a motorcycle, and then only up to 125cc until you passed the test and got a full license, whereupon you could get on a 750cc sports bike and probably kill yourself. It's changed since then... ( View formatted comment » )

I went into Adult Shop Ms with a friend in Akihabara a few years ago. Very strange. One of the assistants was an obvious cross dresser. The attitude to such stores in Japan is relaxed compared with (say) the UK and of sourse far more imaginative. ( View formatted comment » )

I agree, public toilets in Japan are the side entrance to Hell and should be avoided... I also agree the toilets to aim for (if that's the right word) are those in big depaato, which are usually suitable for humans! ( View formatted comment » )

Touhou car stickers, these are great! I always find "Baby on Board" signs (they are usually signs that fix inside the window here) irritating - they go with the child seats in the back of a giant 4x4 that is only used for shopping or taking the kids to school, driven by a woman who can only just see over the steering wheel. "Hells Angel on Board" (or "Yakuza on Board") might be better at making dimwit drivers back off. ( View formatted comment » )

In the past I've posted stuff back to myself, particularly the bigger boxed figures - a bit more expensive but there is no way otherwise I'd have got them in my case. For this you need a large "yupaku" (post pack) from larger post offices and some heavy sticky tape from the 100 yen shop! Often small items, like the trading figures or gatchapons you buy secondhand in bags, can be stuffed into the air space inside larger figure boxes to save even more space. I dislike throwing boxes away because in case I want to sell figures.... ( View formatted comment » )

Well, the Akihabara stabbing incident was dealt with as quickly as any cop could, so I'll give them that. I think the reason why there's relativey little street crime in Japan is that the police have a conspicuous presence - not like the UK where they are just a sort of anti-crime fire brigade and rely on part-time police officers and security cameras to actually mind the streets. Interesting to play with (I found Mei:lish!). It looks as though they drove round with a camera on top of a car judging by the eye level. ( View formatted comment » )

Some really good ones here, and some which just look wrong. The Rei on motorbike ones are great (by Vispo). Interesting to see resin kits still going strong despite the upsurge of ready-painted PVC these days. What's the schoolgirl with her rear to the mirror all about though...? as if I didn't know... Gentleman's Relish! I particularly like the artwork based one in an apron with the cake. I think the artist is Ino. However, all of them are either good or fantstic! ( View formatted comment » )

The makers are probably hoping a PVC maker does a deal with them! Looking forward to the WonFes coverage (although I read there was an accident on the escalator and some persons were injured), especially since Shingo is not going this time... ( View formatted comment » )

It could easily be the prototype for a production item, obviously everything starts out as a scratchbuilt model! Depends whether firms are willing to invest the money. I'd buy it. ( View formatted comment » )

These photos are very impressive. I think it was a good idea to shoot in twighlight rather than complete darkness, because the sky looks so much better! Have you tried cranking up the ISO for night shots? About 800 ISO is the highest most DSLRs will go before graininess sets in. ( View formatted comment » )
