Everyone has their own idea of what another country is like, and what the people are like there. Look at England. They think every American owns a gun. I'm sure many Japanese think the same thing (a generalization). The thing to remember is that you need to do your homework. Look into something further then an internet rumor, or what you friend’s cousin’s girlfriend’s sister told them.

Everyone is bagging on the cops. While I agree that 18 police officers for one swiss army knife is way over kill (and questioning the guy for 2 hours) they are on high alert after the last incident. This always happens when something big like that happens. There's a big show made for a while, then things slow return to normal.
