I'm a proud owner of a Gerber 3.75" and 4.25" combat folders (folding knives, dunno why they called it a "combat folder"), and I carry them with me regularly when I go out. I actually have another 3" throwing knife that comes with its own chain on the sheath and a set of two throwing dirks. Ironically, the dirks are quite sharp and since the blade is short, I use it when making model kits (good for trimming and smoothing rough parts). I really don't think it's the news service being evil, but rather it's such an "odd" event that the people who do the news (the severely closeted multi-million dollar network tycoons) can't possibly grasp the reasoning behind it so they try to get whatever they can in hopes of understanding it and delivering that understanding to the people. 1. yes 2. I'm very much a fan of anime, anime merchandise, the fan culture, and I worship Type Moon. 3. Otaku Culture is becoming increasingly convoluted these days as the weeabo/otaku gap is shrinking. I view Otaku culture as a simple love for anime and manga, devotion to the characters; the merchandise is more of a result of the desire to do something to personify this level of devotion, not necessarily representative of it. Why is it that whenever people see good art, they assume it's Studio Ghibli? If you really sit down to look at Ghibli, you'd see that nothing they've done ever uses such crisp colors. If you want to talk the pinnacle of animation eye-candy, Ghibli is probably one of the last places you'd want to look. Genericism at its finest is probably the best way to describe Ghibli's background art. The clouds alone, should give it away that it's Makoto Shinkai. If you think that's hax, in the game, Heaven's Feel scenario, Shiro traces Berserker's Nine Lives technique and his massive axe/sword thing. With it he manages to obliterate Berserker in about two swings. The irony is that Berserker actually can't use the technique anymore because he's too busy berserking. Nine Lives = 9 hits per swing or something like that. It's Heracles' technique that he used to slay the hydra. No spoiler notice since this isn't in the anime at all :p ( View formatted comment » )

This first movie takes place after the third movie, there's a point where Tohko says it's been a month after the Asagami Fujino incident. Fujino is the antagonist of the third movie. The second movie is at the beginning of the time line, when Mikiya meets Shiki in High School. Like others have said, this is more akin to an OVA than a series of movies. The first is used as a primer to keep the audience coming back for chapters two and three, because chapter two would otherwise be EXTREMELY boring as you wouldn't care at all ... Record of Lodoss War OVA = win Chronicles of the Heroic Knight = FAIL Something about taking what the OVA established, retelling the second half with budget animation, and then deciding to give up half way through and bring in a new cast, just wreaks of franchise-milking failure.
