Im the Joshi Deka j-dorama it was exposed that illegal parking of bikes on roads blocks emergency traffic -- stopping ambulances from getting to victims needing care. Seems to me that's worse than riding on sidewalks; that I encounter in Manhattan, mainly by Chinese food deliverers. ( View formatted comment » )

Around Manhattan, there's a reverse-cool crowd, typically weary of youth, who like to pooh-pooh anything currently popular with those younger. For sure, they claim to hate anime (though I doubt they could respond with titles for the three they hated the most!). And, there's plenty also who think anime are cartoons... I'd not known Book Off has stores in Japan; that was naive since how else could they supply us Manhattanites. Your photo looks exactly like the Manhattan store and here, also, people stand reading for hours. The shiny new Kinokuniya (includes lovely cafe overlooking Bryant Park) is 1 1/2 blocks west, so almost anything one fancies there can then be got at Book Off. Our Book Off has amazing cheap CDs that are otherwise hard to find. They're my source for Ken Ishii and Yellow Magic Orchestra. ( View formatted comment » )

Too bad that cousin got taken! I noticed the leaning spire of Shanghai in your lead photo, and that lens distortion shows in many of your photos. I have the same prob. Does anybody know a really quick and easy fix? ( View formatted comment » )

Hmmm, do you seriously expect to be able to play downloaded animes and doramas with soft subs on any Mac OS PC? As to this with a 4200 RPM drive, that's laughable. ( View formatted comment » )

After seeing the second one, I gotta admit to being hooked. It doesn't seem as ecchi as that panty-peek count might suggest. Part of the charm is how completely turned upside down is everything Transylvanian (i.e., her bites don't hurt much and don't harm). ( View formatted comment » )

It'd be better to know what attendees at a major J fest liked best (Kujibiki Unbalance?). I was especially impressed by Darker Than Black and Baccano. Lucky Star cracks me up every time I rewatch. I guess Minami-ke, Shana II and Genshiken II are out of contention by dint of calendar. For J-lang-study, School Days is tops and is darn good anime, IMO. Danny: I'd like a feature on which anime series are most helpful for language study. ( View formatted comment » )

I can't figure out what goes in fields (too much Kanji) to register at the cosplay site. Is there any good guide to registering for J sites? BTW, I learned of Kipi because someone in Shakugan no Shana's Facebook fan site posted a picture. Happy New Year! ( View formatted comment » )

Manhattan has only one Barnes & Noble bookstore that has enough cafe space (they try to discourage use as a shelter for homeless). But, that Chelsea (6th Av & 20 thSt) location looks very much like your photo. Because that B&N is near Fashion Institute of Technology, I can hear Japanese as I study my Japanese. I've ripped audio from text CDs to my music player so I can use store copies of the texts and so not have to carry that weight. A change of scenery is essential; if I stay at home I'll always get pulled into my ... ( View formatted comment » )
