I can't wait for my trip to Tokyo in October - I'm hoping that I'll see as much 3D zettai ryouiki as last year. I wish thigh highs were as popular elsewhere in the world as in Japan :-|. ( View formatted comment » )

Cardcaptor Sakura is great, although I could only find 1 DVD of it in the UK and it had those awful American voices rather than the original Japanese. ( View formatted comment » )

I love Clamp's work (Chobits, Angelic Layer etc.) but I hated Tsubasa. For some reason. ( View formatted comment » )

I was surprised by the number of homeless in Tokyo - there were lots around the fringes of Akihabara and in Shinjuku. One guy in Shinjuku had a cat on a lead, which was kinda cool. ( View formatted comment » )

Wow, that's a sad story, did she not have a sunroof in her car? I hope the police weren't too busy looking at umbrella theft crimes. ( View formatted comment » )

Cool figure! I'm available for otaku programming work (C#, .NET, SQL Server, ASP, PHP etc.) if anything comes up. I started my own software business back in 2002 after I lost my job in the dot com crash. It took a lot of motivation, especially to write the software's documentation, installers, etc. etc. However, it was really worthwhile as it's paid for my Japan trips (going again in October 08!) Funnily enough I spent years at Uni training to be a Biochemist, but tinkering around with HTML and JavaScript in my spare tim... ( View formatted comment » )

Oh she's far too kawaii to be Haruhi. It would be hard to imagine her bossing Mikuru-chan around. ( View formatted comment » )

Yes the amount of healthcare stores in Akihabara is pretty surprising, especially as some have 7 floors of the stuff (so I've heard). There's also a lot of these interesting types of stores in Shinjuku. ( View formatted comment » )

I picked up lots of small giveaway posters in Akiba itself, they were mainly advertisments for games, figures and 2D healthcare material, but the artwork is wonderous. ( View formatted comment » )

I didn't find the public toilets in Japan too bad - they were certainly better than in the UK. Toilet cubicles being too small was a more common problem - it seemed the larger the electric toilet was installed, the smaller the cubicle. ( View formatted comment » )

The Japan Centre is in London's Piccadilly, and it has a great selection of Japanese food. Packs of House Curry were recently on special offer at just 99p each, so I bought a massive stash of them. Last weekend they also had a huge new selection of instant Miso soups, but the Pocky selection was a bit uninspiring. It's also a bit sparse when it comes to otaku goods (e.g. figures etc.) though. Forbidden Planet has much more things of that ilk. ( View formatted comment » )

What a cool job. Unfortunately after a year of trying to learn Kanji I still can only remember "rice field" and "moon". I'm sure this job can't be too difficult though: "nice pantsu on this figure", "this figure is very kawaii" etc. etc. ( View formatted comment » )

I spent 2 weeks in Tokyo last year and I'm pretty certain I never saw two vending machines with exactly the same selection of drinks. Perhaps a mathematician otaku can calculate the number of different combinations that are possible. Oh and not a single vending machine ate my money. I never use vending machines is London as there's a 30% chance it will eat your money and not give you anything in return. ( View formatted comment » )

It looks like I'm going to Tokyo again in October - yay! I'd love to attend an idol photo event, especially as I've spent the price of a small family car on getting the EF-S 17-55 f2.8 lens for my EOS! But I'm not sure how I would go about booking an event, or whether they even let Westerners into these events. Someone needs to organise gaijin photo sessions, they would make megabucks. Oh well, I will take pictures of Kawaii girls in the street instead and risk getting punched/arrested/worse. :-) ( View formatted comment » )

I'd love to see it as well. All the innocent anime characters seem to move from Hokkaido to Tokyo, like that chap from Chobits. ( View formatted comment » )
