Hmm, Industrial Design student... who splits his remaining cash up between Anime, cars and music. Cheaper hobbies are drawing (badly) and sculpting (even more badly). Actually, come to think of it sculpting isn't really all that cheap either.

Basically, if you're going in expecting a superhero movie then you're going to be dissapointed. If you go in looking at it as a drama/"finding yourself" type movie... then it's quite alright. ( View formatted comment » )

My folks are pretty cool with it. I had to do some pretty quick talking when the first (and oddly enough, most revealing so far) turned up in the mail. Now when the HLJ box arrives it's just handed over without too much questioning... other than what's in it. Both parents tend to look at them from an artistic sense and often comment on the design, outfit and quality of sculpt. I do still cop a razzing for "buying dolls" from them... but I give as good as I get so it's not an issue. It also probably helps that I ten... ( View formatted comment » )

That show looks epic-random... will add it to the watch list. As for getting stuff done, I find it really depends on who you're dealing with. Normally though you can generally go straight to the decision maker. By the same token, maybe not so much in this instance but in others, it's often said that a lower ranked person has a better bargaining position. Where a high ranked person has to make a decision on the spot, the office gopher can say "Ok, I'm not sure, will have to ask my boss", walks out of the room for h... ( View formatted comment » )

Don't think I've ever heard of a cram school here in Australia, though there are personal tutors if you're having trouble with something. University also offeres the option of a "summer semester" in some courses for those that want to get ahead. But seriously, you'd have to be some sort of masochist. ( View formatted comment » )

Well, we'll hit 40C on a bad day in summer. Our house is well insulated and has good cross-ventillation... but no air-con (and probably never will, I'm against air-con on priciple). Generally I just try not to buy figures that look like they're going to have a leaning problem. Which probably means a month's paycheck would go on more figures =P ( View formatted comment » )

Definately want. Not normally into the whole "goth" thing, but this is just an awesome outfit. Might have to cancel that Ironman pre-order though to afford it... ( View formatted comment » )

Interesting looking anime, but wow those outfits look cold. Anyone who's been in an open cockpit above 1000' knows that, unless you're well inside the tropics, it isn't exactly the warmest of places. My vote's with Exoskeletons. ( View formatted comment » )

Dabble around a bit, but nowhere near enough to go reccomending rigs to anyone. I'd hazard a guess the shutter life thing is true. It's a moving part (unlike a regular digital camera, which just saves an image) and mechanical things tend to wear out after awhile. Best guess is you could probably extend the life by replacing the shutter spring or something. Man, that uber-wide angle lense really warps the perspective, looks cool. ( View formatted comment » )

My first figure would have been the Race Queen version of Tessa from FMP! by Atelier-Sai http://www.hlj.com/product/ATS82050 As to why, it was a combination of things. I was a big Tessa fan at the time, I had just come home from the pub, she was on sale and I had a friend with even worse financial sense than me on the other end of MSN =P The hobby just sort of snowballed from there. I'm not really sure why I buy them. Partly I think it's an a... ( View formatted comment » )

I don't know if it's counted as "short term memory", but when I was doing promo courses in Cadets and didn't have the luxury of an alarm clock (generally most of us were up about an hour before we were meant to be to get things done, would have been in strife if we were caught) I would try and build a spinning visual model of the time I wanted to get up in my head. More difficult than it sounds cause I'd loose it every time I thought about something else. Seemed to work though. That garage could only have been... ( View formatted comment » )

That's actually a really nice photo. I like the fact that everyone around her is in dark colours and she isn't, really makes her stand out. ( View formatted comment » )

Yeah, I think I'll just stick with locking my doors... spend the rest on home and contents insurance. I've seen friends' houses with all the whizz bang gadgetry, and as far as I can tell all it does is make life difficult when you come home and just want to collapse into bed. I don't think the little sticker even makes that much of a detterent. One set of friends had something similar to this mob "looking after" them and their place got knocked over three times. Yeah, got a couple of Be@rbricks... Daft Punk ones and that vinyl Canti from FLCL. Yam Roll's onto something good there with the 3D machines. Just be warned though, they're not perfect. 3d Rapid prototyping tends to be a) expensive and b) still needs finishing work. Because the machine works in layers you wind up with a stepped effect. Basically, after it comes out of the machine you'll have to set to with sandpaper and filler and make sure your 3D model is adjusted for the stepping effect. They can be somewhat fragile as... That's sweet. I never got further than putting little (subtle) "eX-D" decals just ahead of the rear wheel arches. If I had a modern I might try it, but I couldn't bring myself to to do that to a classic, no matter how much I love anime. Besides, the Alfa club, mechanic and folks would probably shoot me. The Lotus mob would laugh themselves silly... then shoot me. Since 99.9% of the Australian anime-geek community probably doesn't know what eX-Driver is (let alone the general populace) I think I'm pretty sa... ( View formatted comment » )

Herniated disks ain't fun. I remember my mother having one when I was in primary school, she was wandering around on crutches for awhile there. As for my own health, doing pretty well. I used to be the fast agile bloke on our football team, but I doubt I would be anymore =P Still, my job requires me to run around a hospital for a couple of hours a shift pushing meal trolleys, and if I've uni and work on the same day I'll park the car at work and walk the couple of kilometres into the city along the river. Eating's hea... ( View formatted comment » )

I used too, but not anymore. Partly because it makes the item more bulky (I have very limited carriage space) and because they generally get on my nerves after awhile anyway. That said I don't really mistreat gear such that it needs a case, and I generally try to buy more resilient equipment that can take a bit of punishment anyway. ( View formatted comment » )
