Agreed, we need more cool male figures! I could definitely go for a Ginko or Hei or Lelouch. Beyond that, figures of characters from Yotsubato! other than Yotsuba herself, especially Asagi. Also the Aria girls can always use more figures, especially larger scale ones. :D ( View formatted comment » )

Haha, that Nice Boat with the psycho Kotonoha on it is just priceless. I'd definitely grab one of those if I got the chance. ;) ( View formatted comment » )

Thanks for a great year, Danny! And well done striking out on your own and making a successful go of it. That's not an easy thing to do, but you seem to have really put a lot of thought and effort into what you do for this site. がんばれ! それに、あけおめことよろ! (b^_^)b ( View formatted comment » )

Haha, nice Danny! I loved the part where they asked you where you were from and you just pointed. Their reactions were hilarous. :) ( View formatted comment » )

Is that a tiny Henrietta figure with her AMATI violin case that I see in the corner of the last screenshot there? Very cool photos, Danny; I appreciate the virtual tour and getting to see a bit of what the working conditions are like. ( View formatted comment » )

This reminds me a lot of highly stylized "old timey" trains that run between Kumamoto and Aso-san in Kyushu. Similar concept - a thematically stylized (perhaps even, dare I say, pimpin') ride; a tourist attraction in and of itself. :) I'd probably feel a bit more embarrassed riding on the Ichigo Train, however. ;P ( View formatted comment » )

As others have said, for many stories the manga is actually a lot more interesting - shonen stories like Naruto and Death Note being case in point. Story pacing and shot composition is often better in manga, and it doesn't deteriorate as noticeably under a low budget. ( View formatted comment » )

It seems pretty obvious to me that this is just an attempt at protecting what has traditionally been a very lucrative revenue stream - guidebooks. The internet has put the power in the hands of consumers when it comes to sharing information, and the video game industry has been affected just like everyone else. On one hand, I think it's a futile endeavor - the Pandora's box has been opened and there's no way to stuff everything back in and go back to how things were. On the other hand, however, I understand the business logic.... ( View formatted comment » )

Nothing like a good old-fashioned Diggdotting, eh Danny? ;) As great as picture menus are, I'm much more of a fan of the plastic food. Nicer restaurants often won't have pictures on the menu; even the prices are all in kanji. Thus, it's helpful to have a good idea ahead of time of what you want to order, and what it's going to look like. It also makes window shopping for a good restaurant easier, if you're cruising around the top floor of a department store trying to decide what you're hungry for. :D ( View formatted comment » )

Man, even in just the last couple years Akiba has changed so much. It's kind of unfortunate. It's become a lot more touristy. These days it seems like all the real otaku action is moving westward, toward Nakano and Tachikawa. :P ( View formatted comment » )

Fortunately, not every city is as bad as Tokyo. I occasionally get lost trying to find an address in Hiroshima, but for the most part they're more logically laid out. Whereas in Tokyo, I know people who have lived there all their lives and still get lost. ( View formatted comment » )

I often notice salarymen taking power naps at Excelsior or Starbucks during lunchtime. Even more than people sleeping in restaurants, though, I've seen lots of people who crash in internet cafes. Most are among the working poor, not enough money to afford a home, but at least enough that they don't have to sleep on the street. They come to the cafes since the all-night rate is pretty cheap, they get a comfy chair, and they can grab a quick shower and cup of coffee in the morning before they head out. You can usually spot them ... ( View formatted comment » )
