Nope! would not write an article on some product I did not like for the exact same reasons you do. When I created my blog I didn't intend it to be a hit at all: instead I am getting about 300 hits a day after a year or two of dedicated blogging. I won't recommend something unless I like it.
おめでとう to be more and more popular, even on news paper now. I can see soon DannyChoo stock or Mirai Inc stock ! I'll buy it for sure (^v^)
I have read of the pay-cash-to-review services but had the same though as you. We would have to lie about their product if it sucks. Seems like you've appeared in a lot of newspapers ^^ Good job Danny! Will try your tip onf automating work flow ^^;
I once was a member of a three to four (depending on who we liked at the time) member team of computer hardware reviewers for a site called 2fastcpu that is now long since dead. We too had the same issues with companies expecting glowing reviews. In fact, it's such a problem in the tech area that even free stuff is often expected to get glowing reviews when we specifically take the stance that we are going to provide a truthful and non-biased opinion on the product. In the end, a lot of companies just expect bloggers to be tools for advertisement. They're forgetting what the spirit of blogging: free and personal opinion.
I totally agree that in order to succeed in anything one must be passionate about what him/her are doing. Man at the rate you are gaining popularity, soon you'd be running for elections ^_^
It's amazing how someone nowadays can make a living doing the thing they really love to do. I guess that's why all those different outlets interviewed you and such. But I guess, as a previous person said, congratulations on your success. Your passion for everything you blog about comes out in all the stuff you put on your site, so again congrats and Keep up the good work! I know a lot of people look forward to it. Remember: The only way to go is up ;p
otakus can be famous After all..
Good for you Danny, I'm glad to read that you don't accept cash to do reviews that might be s#I* ^-^. Congrats to your media coverage, watch out for paparazzi though in your storm trooper and vadar suit will ruin that chance lol.
wow! mind sending me a autographed newspaper Danny? preferably not the one used in the bathroom while taking a morning dump. ^^ lol. kidding aside.. 100,000 yen?!? never thought anyone can earn that much from web ads and sponsors. I've always been negligent on blog monetizing I guess its time I get inspired. ^^ thanks for the tips Danny.
100000 yen in a day's work ? Outstanding. :]
Congrats, Your work deserve it, and no, if writte is about pasion, there is no need to sold your soul (at least not for that prize) Keep the good work :D
wow! danny in broadsheets and other print media ^^ there's no way i'm going to sell to corporation just to earn some extra income. you'll only be deceiving your readers and also yourself and making your blog more like a corporate marketing robot and less of a human... there are other ways to earn income and sharing your traffic with the others is a great contribution to the otaku community not to mention earn even more income from it lol thanx for the tips danny. your blog is a great inspiration to all ^^
That second bullet point about doing what you enjoy is the most important.

Danny, much kudos on your publicity! Your site continues to rock daily. Your content is fresh and concise (with just the right amount of sex appeal). Besides the stuff you write about, I also look forward to the new features that you're always adding to the site. All the time I hear people saying "I don't have time to do x, y, or z", but then I look at your site and think that's just bs. Keep it up brutha. Looking forward to your incorporation announcement.

Hey Danny, congrats on being featured in the news. I can't wait to hear more about how you created the site. It'll be interesting to know how you optimize it for Nav2.0. Will you be licensing the configuration under CC?

LOL otaku #1 :D anyway, i really like your writings and maybe you should come up with some merchandise. Anyway, you really deserves what you achieved and yeah, praising something that you didnt like for the sake of money is a do-not-want
Wow Danny! Your site outgrew Dengeki Online? Pretty impressive! Well done on getting in so many magazines.
Wow awesome. Man...how i envy your life. Its amazing seeing how much and how fast your site has grown over the past year. I remember how i just randomly stumbled across this site a year ago because of gundam. :D
You look alright man, though I was surprised to see a fellow with Asian blood, ha ha ha! Well, that put a solid image in my mind. Keep up the good work man. Love your site.
Omedetou Danny! Onestly it's quite easy for me belive that dannychoo.com is becoming so popular. You are doing a grate job. You please us all, with amazing contents, dedication and passion. Everyday. Now don't get too exalted ok? ^^ .:G:.
Cheers danny. you becoming more of an iconic otaku everyday or what? thanks for keeping the spirit of blogging and not taking bribes for reviews. Keep up the great work!!
Do some people recognize you now when you walk around in Akihabara without the armor like some otaku celebrity?
Congratulations Danny. I've been reading and lurking since you got your less-than-stellar storm trooper outfit before you modded it. And good to know now you've probably became an icon not just to Japanese otaku but to the gaijin otaku as well. ;) Keep up the good work. And nice to know you're not selling your soul to the corporate types too. ;)
You are a good exemple of what i think about the whole blogospere craps: - You got some arrogants folks who are just spending their time to blog about how to attract visitors, playing the SEO teacher, and got just 1000 visitors/day. Most of them don' t even know how to write a correct line of php - and you got others folks who do attract hundred of thousand visitors without playing the teachers, by just blogging about what they like. Gongratulations Danny, but i do note that you know fews php trics ^o^
Why don't you buy a Censor Glasses instead of using the Mirai Censor. You can write a review, too if you like... xD Joke aside, Congratulations for the big success!!
Whoa, you outranked Degenki Online and GA Graphic. That's quite an accomplishment. ^^
OK Danny, don't try to fool us with you japanese magazines that we can't read :D ... Man, I have A LOT of newspaper to photoshop to outstand that LMAO. anyway, you're successful and you're looking good, so don't be ashamed of you face mate... congratulations Danny !!!
Wow, number 1 on the magazine rank o_O The community aspect of blogs seem like the fastest way to get "in tune" like said, plus a good way to meet other people XD
Congrats Danny for your well-deserved popularity through media coverage. And I salute your integrity as well as passionate outlook for the future.
congrats Danny!!! it is certainly a great achievement.
Danny, congratz!! your site really took my attention when i first saw it. you are really a GREAT otaku!! perhaps during our futures generation will see you as a legend!! Keep up the good work!!
Congrats danny. You seem to be getting more and more popular everyday. heheh! I agree with you that it just isn't right to blog about a product and getting paid for it for writing good stuff about it even if you think otherwise. Donations on the otherhand are very much welcome. hahah! ^^ I'm still amazed though that you're making so much from your blog. Must be worth a lot. heheh!
Keep it up bro, i am a fan of yours plastic modelling and stuff..the preview of anime was greater than great.

I wouldn't write glowing reviews for things I didn't like, but if I was mega poor and need money pronto I would. Sounds sleezy, but in this world your one of your main tools is money.
In an world where a single sentence can spread like wildfire, I think spoiling your integrity for a few bucks is virtual suicide.
It must be awesome to have so many people (all of us as well!) value your opinion so highly. Integrity cannot be bought, right?
Sorry, I see Daveyboy shared the same thought!
Haha i swear each time i check your site you get more and more famous, but you deserve it all, you have worked hard to get where you are today! :D
Danny your any honest man X) I cant believe your #1 otaku. lolol, the stromtropper suit most have paid off. Keep going to the top danny.

Congratulations, Danny! You seem to get more and more famous every day and i praise you for all the hard work it took you to get where you are today.
Never would I write a review for money. My personal integrity is too important. I have always believed strongly that people who have the most traffic are those who people feel are honest and general all around decent individuals. I very happy to see you getting so much positive recognition, congratulations Danny. Your site is very much Otaku, but you get such a broad spectrum of readers and attention outside the Otaku community. I think that is really great and want that for my own blog. So true, always do something you are passionate about. In the end it is the only thing that keeps one involved with it from day to day and when times get stressful. It pays off for us Otaku to be so dedicated, many of us translate it into our work. I want very much to have an Anime Otaku blog, but think right now is the wrong time. Who want to read another American Otaku blog, so many are doing a great job at it already. I will start out with photography and include more Gundam and such when I move to Japan. For now, I'm studying up on WordPress until I can start coding my own site. I write post for two private blogs and try to comment a lot to other blogs, need to improve my writing skills. Sorry, I get so pumped when I start planning and work on a goal. I tend to run on too long... ^^;
I would write reviews gladly even if they payed which means my words would perhaps have some impact. Reviewing stuff for companies is a good thing which can tell what them what some people think of that product and helps them improve future ones
Dude, way to go Danny! When I visit Japan I seriously have to meet up with you and talk business (I'm trying to go for the manga artist bit but barely know how to start ^^;;). Plus when I start living in Japan, I want to be your neighbor. XD
AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!
by the way danny, how much were they intending to pay you for writing reviews??

On the Internet should be engaged in more advertising moving up earning a good point ~
All, Thanks for the comps ^^; Setsuna-san, A few hundred USD. bobo, Sometimes ^^; sonnyF, Unfortunately no. It will initially be launched in Japan.
Congrats danny!! You're the man! XD I wont be surprised if you get you're own TV show someday! XD
Congrats, Danny !
Congratulations Danny, you truly deserve it. You're the most famous Stormtrooper and Vader otaku around! How does it feel? *laughs* About the poll, I simply couldn't promote something I would find awful. It would be like lying to myself, and I hate that. Yes, I think you do well in reviewing items like they really should be. If there is a failure in goods, better not sell it to the public before testing! Keep going on, we shall follow you in your adventures without fail... ...And again, kudos to you!!

Great work, Danny and keep it up! I'm sure you're an inspiration to a lot of people. I sure would like to make a living keeping a blog up to date and writing about what I enjoy ^^
Yeah I'd do that too, and write manga, and make otaku films, and write doujinshi

Last December you'd earned 100,000yen in a single day...? Wow.. Anyway, all the best Danny and I really hope that I can learn things from you and your site.
Wow Danny, I didn't know you were voted number one... And ZOMG 100,000 yen in a day?! That's like a few months of my allowance...
Go Danny Go ! I have recommended your website to entire hosts of Australian clueless anime lovers haha >< Good fortunes come to those who are sincere : _)
Well done you are great ; ) Keep going, and thanks for the tips
Danny you sir are a great man, I think I may have came up with an idea for a manga!!!!
Dear Danny, With the hard work in maintaining the site, you deserve the credit. Thanks to figure sites like yours, my credit card bill hits over 85,000 yen this month again (most of it going to HobbySearch). Some online retailers pay a small commission to sites that refer shoppers to them. I know Play-Asia has their Affiliate Program and Amazon Japan have something similar as well. I wouldn't mind supporting Dannychoo.com through such programs.
Hi Eva, I would prefer you buy through your own affiliate link. My mission is to encourage you to monetize online ^^
This reminds me...you told me you activated my feed but I can't find it. :(
The little "f" means your feed is activated - you need to check your feed settings etc yourself. Check here for tips. http://www.dannychoo.com/detail/mac/eng/image/4605/Featured+Feeds+Request+Thread+and+QA.html
Thanks Danny, set it up :D
ah~ omedetou danny-san ^_^ I was a writer before and once dreamt of being a journalist. But the perception here is that writing won't support you here. Did you ever had any troubles like that before? I guess so :P but we all know here how wonderful your job is and it's fun that you share it to us :D
u r like the most famous asian in Japan now! wait nvm Japan is an asian country...
i can't read it 0.0" i give up~ but congratz ^^ guess i need to take japanese course @ post-secondary lvl -.-"
I don't like writing a scripted review. Heck why would it be called a review of only positive stuffs were stated or being forced to be positive>? :) Anyways i think you should also find a Tie Fighter Pilot Sir Danny so that your Legion would be complete XD
I'd Make someone else do it for less and then make a profit
well done danny ! Your work really make a brighter day for us so keep on !
Even though my site's in English, I was in Windows 100% once! June 2006, page 85, lower right corner. http://www.vicfieger.com/junk/win100-a.jpg They also had some of my fonts on one of the CD-ROMs.
impressive i must say.
NICE! CONGRATULATIONS DANNY CHOO! ONE OF THE TINY STEPS TOWARD A SUCCESSFUL LIFE!
