Transformers looked a bit too rough and tumble for me.
I never liked transformers but the movie was great, best CG EVER!!
I like both, but gundams in my opinion are better designed.. guess i'm a realist.. you can't have legs ina camero and still have an engine compartment.. btw.. seen the movie.. you'll love it..
I loved the transformers movie. ^^ Definitely a must watch. :D
I like both, but lately I like Transformer more, because most of the new gundam have lack of imagination for me.
I liked transformers as a kid too +_+ that and G.I Joe~ rofl.. looking forward to the movie.. I still voted for gundam though.. the asian within me i guess =/
I would definitely recommend watching transformer, the movie is really awesome with all the effects.
From what I have seen so far I am going to have to go with Transformers over the new Gundams. I am hoping I will be able to go see the Movie Sunday. I have been keeping a way from reviews of the Transformers movie as I want to see it with out anyone else option shading my reactions.
I have to agree that Gundam designs are rather lacking. But I still like Gundams. They look more Human and practically it is something I wish to pilot. Transformers movie, awesome. Transformers design are great but still doesn't interest me as much as Gundam.

The new Transformers designs are pretty interesting, but I'm more partial old designs even though I didn't watch much of the animated series to begin with. (Yeah, kill me.) The movie was great in my opinion, but for some damn reason –- they transformed too much. (Yeah, kill me again.) Maybe it's just me, but I got a little dizzy watching the movie because there was so much going on.
transformers was AMAZING...but i'm going with gundam.
I agree...Transformers are awesome. But in terms of "Military Mecha" look, I'm still going for Gundams~

Transformers for me! Transformers designs have alot of personality in them, which is necessary as the Transformers are characters in their own right, rather than simple piloted mecha, so it is necessary for their designs to emote. This is why I find myself more attached to individual Transformers, rather than individual Gundam.
I just saw it today!!!! I thought it is already on thearters in Asia. It seems it is in Thailand... Anyways, your question is "Design"??? Well, for right now I say Transformers. I agree with you Danny. Somehow after V gundam, Gundam seems becoming more like other robot anime. However, I feel it is not fair for Gundam to be compared with "Transformers" the Movie. It is a live action movie. Not animation. Or you could say it combined with highly realistic cg animation... You know what, I change my answer. If i can compare with U.C. series Gundam, I say Gundam. Anyways, I really liked Transformers. It was really cool movie. But Gundam is also one of things I wish they make it to Hollywood movie as live action. Others are G.I.S. and Nausica. I think those three would be really cool movies too if they can be made as live action.
At this point, Gundam. I'm biased though because I just recently put together the pg strike and mg Hi-v(love this! mountain hiking w/it tomorrow for pics). I haven't seen the Transformers movie but from what I've seen of the trailers the robots look really complicated compared to the early versions. I'm hoping to see the new movie soon to maybe change my mind about it. One good thing about Transformers I do like was that movie in the 80's. Didn't expect it to be that violent.
sorry optimus but Gundamn gets my vote
Gotta say Transformers....how can you beat a walkmen changing into a robot?
ehh... id have to say both :)

I'm with Aya Kyunik--military realism-wise, I prefer Gundam mecha designs (UC, of course). Heck, most of the best Gundam MS I've seen (model-wise) were the ones built to look like realistic Military mecha as opposed to superweapons. But the Transformers look pretty cool as well. And there's the one advanmtage--the TF movie was eons better than G-Saviour. (Runs and hides in a foxhole for sayign the G-word)
I gotta say, i prefer gundam. Transformers rock in my book, but i think the new designs look too detailed. You cant read the forms easily, and its hard to tell what they have transformed from. With classic optimus prime, you can tell that his arms are the sides/ exhausts, and his legs are the wheels/ back end - with the new ones, they just look like twisted metal - especially megatron. Its very impressive CG though. Im surprised you have to wait a bit longer than us for the cinema release. It makes more sense to show the world premiere of that in japan than the new harry potter film
I would side with gundam. By the way is Gundam Unicorn a novel? Katoki is the bomb man. His works puts gundam OO in shame.
My opinion might change after seeing the film. Its not out in the UK yet, and im trying to limit my exposure of it til i actually see it...
The original transformers was one of my favorite shows as a kid, so there are still feelings towards transformers. But in the end, gundam designs win.
Hmm, thats a difficult one you know. I too loved transformers as a kid, then as i grew up and i saw gundam, i also loved that. I'm not really sure i can choose which designs i prefer, they are both great in their own right. I can't wait for the film! I shall be buying Pokemon diamond then going to the cinema to see the film (they both come out on the same day xD)
Its not out in Tokyo yet so I can't make any comparisons, but as an employee of Sunrise its my obligation to support Gundam, so there you go.

I watched the film in Rome and it's GREAT! The only critic I would make are few design misses and the last 30 mins: the photography of the battles is plain wrong: too much close up and many times it's difficult to understand whats happening. For non european DannyChoores: These are some french TV ADs broadcasted a couple of years ago so maybe we are a bit picky on the film cause we already watched transformers cars... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxH2JrFrcuw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc8qKxfqnkA and a funny parody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXOJ28b6WIo
Transformers. I'm a Transformer fan. I read the comics (Still need to finish TF Escalation), I buy the action figures. Transformers have more variation than a Gundam. Transformers can Transform in all kinds of vehicles and animals and thats cool. Some Gundams can transform in aircrafts but not in cars. Also most gundams have a similar look than other Gundams, while most Transformers look alot more different. Gundams are cool, but the Transformers are way more cooler. I've seen the movie on the 25th of June. I think it was awsome, though most critics in the Netherlands thought it was a crappy movie, and one critic even went as far as insulting Transformers fans.
Been a transformer fan since I was a kid, so I'll choose transformer.
As of late I'll lean towards the Transformer designs. The Gundams as of late are looking pretty boring, and becoming anorexic. If this was the 80's however, I'd have to say Gundam, some of the plain mobile suits in the original look quite cool.
transformers models were originally created by a Japanese company.

I saw Transformers the movie last nite. It SUCKED pretty badly. God action scenes but bad direction, laughable story, and bad acting. Go read the reviews on rottentomatoes if you don't believe me. A real shame. I know most of you will disagree with me, possibly because most of you are already transformers fans. But please, try to be objective and judge the movie as it is. And for god's sake, let's get the sequel out of Bay's hands once and for all!!!!!!
Its difficult to choose since gundam is more humanoid than robot itself. I loved the Transformers movie it was awesome, to bad you still have to wait a hole month to watch it there. Been a fan of the transformers since I was 4 years old so I was expecting a lot from this movie and it sure was damn good.
Transformers the movie was the best blockbuster of the past 3 years period. Those who pan it are obviously clueless. Story? Compare the Transformers movie story to the original generation one story.. the former is far superior.Yet that didn't stop the original from gaining a huge fanbase. Anyway, while I'm not too big a fan of the new Tformers design, you have to admit the transformation sequences and action is super top notch. Personally I think Gundams are way too similar, with little variation. The basic frame isn't that good too. Transformers is superior in terms of variety. But Macross Valkyries are still better overall heh.
I never had enough exposure to transformers, the first robot animation I ever saw was gundam wing. Personally I dont like transformers at all, I still want see the film though. ^^;
Both are giants robots of great reputation. One born in the East and the other in the West..Transformers looked innovative and interesting..but I still preferred Gundams..Have been in love with Gundams since I was 5 years old. Danny, you should really watch the movie, if not for the story, at least for the awesome visual effects. Its the most coolsome visual effects that I have ever seen in my whole life. Still can't seem to get this phrase off my mind "Freedom is the right to all sentient beings" Very true indeed.
Loved both. Both the transformer movie and Gundam anime rocks. But the design of Gundam ought to be more creative at times. Same old shape and weapon is boring. Gigantic formula is a nice mecha anime with good mecha design imho.
Though I like both, Gundam gets my vote. Story is a hell lot more epic, and when I say epic, I'm not referring to alternate universes or other spin-offs, but the true-to-universe Universal Century timeline. Zeta Gundam and the original Gundam are quite memorable.
the decepticons always get the cool toys... i guess the appeal of transformers lies in the fact that they emerge from 'everyday' items like walkmans, cars and fighter jets. so it kinda fuels the imagination whenever you stare at the road or at some wierd machinery. Gundam designs tend to be (in recent times) more cosmetic than practical...which is why i see it going out of favor as it gets less and less believable, albeit more flashy.
in terms of design creativity, transformers gets my vote. imagine robots living amongst us as everyday items and vehicles ^^ but in terms of story, Gundam gets my vote. Gundam has some epic story ^^
G1 was simple and charming. The new ones just makes them look like skeletons with metal plates on em. Some are quite ingenious though. Gundam designs vary from series to series with my favourites being from X, Astray and Zeta. All in all TF designs are preferable over Gundams of certain series like GSD or 2nd generation Wing Gundams. However Gundam is generally the better choice throughout.

Of course Gundam, it is the legend and dream of many future engineers. Currently, there will be a new Gundam game out for PS3 http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/gundammusou/images.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gsimage&tag=images;img;1 I am expecting this game more than any Transformer game :)
I have always prefer gundam design, transformer always looks bulky to me
transofermers for life!!!
I prefer neither, actually. Just saw the Transformers movie yesterday in theaters, and was not impressed. The transformations were nice, but that was about it... all of the other qualities (like dialogue, plot, characters, perplexities, etc.) were not all that amusing (most were cliches). I am excited about the upcoming Evangelion live though, even if I do have to wait for another two years or so...
Gundam without even giving it a second thought. I do enjoy Transformers although, I thought the new movie was really lacking. Hopefully those of you who haven't seen it will enjoy the movie. Yes the designs for the new movie are great, but I personal need more than that. ^^; Gundam design lately has been below what we usual expect, but over all I do prefer Gundam design the most.
Hmmm... Do Transformers that appear as Walkman have Sony Timers too?? ^^;
I've gotta give it to the creators for the ingenuity of the transformation sequences, but that is preety much the only thing I appreciate about Transformers... For me, 18 meters robots should and always will be nothing more than a weapon. Robot shows shouldn't have robots as main characters, unless you are Kou Uraki from gundam 0083, and are much too mentally challenged to get any attention. Then your robot can be the main character of the show.

Danny the new Transformers is a excellent film. It had a few things I but the Autobots and Deceptiacons appearances made up for it. When you get to see it I expect a full report of the Japanese reaction to it. While it is Transformers it is meant to appeal to an American audience so I feel some elements might be difficult for the Japanese to understand.
as much as I like gundams I'd still have to say it takes a more cretive mind to designing robots to change to vehicles and oother electornic equipments. however I do like to point out the transformers was designed as a toy first before the cartoon. unlike gundams which was an anime before it was merchendised as toys and model kits.

I passionately dislike the new designs for the movie, but not as much as I loathe the voices (wild noises and grunts are included) for all of the bots with the exception of Optimus, Megatron, and Starcream. I apologize for segwaying into another topic, but the Transformers movie directed by Micheal Bay is definitely his style. It is indeed a wonderful popcorn flick. Does it carry any substance beyond that is extremely questionable. This may come off as a minor spoiler or not but there was only one line which was the shining moment out of the entire movie which you-know-who announces in a fight that tied me over to an impartial liking. However that saving grace for the movie must be thanked by Micheal Bay's awestruck creativity to allow the fanbase to send in the quote they believe should be used in the movie. There was a rumor that Stan Bush's song, 'The Touch' was remixed and might be added into the movie. Well, I didn't hear it and I am very disappointed. Yet then again I am sure there will be a sequel and then the movie can come into play with the right timing. I can't wait! Come to us Dinobots, HotRod, Galvatron, and Unicron!

Gundam is up in 1979, and in 1983 Transformers out, listen to others Transformers by the RX-78 and CFC, and the product of. I insist on a vote gundam votes! ^ ^
もちろんトランスフォーマーで!(笑 最近のガンダムはあまり好きではありません;
actually im sorry to say marvin that i just finished reading a book on japan where this man and his son interview many anime artists and creators and in it they interview the creator of gundam Mr Tomino who states that gundam anime was made to help sell the gundam toys that were created first the book is very interesting and is calledwrong about japan and is written by peter carey
Maximus, I'm not entirely sure about that. bandai got the license to make gundams after the show was aired. but the show's ratings did peak up only after the toys were out in the market. before that the show was a failure. might be that mr. peter carey got lost in translation. :p
Say gundam man. Transformers get taken out by people and cant do that against gundams really. Depends on which gundams too
I prefer the ★★★★★'s Mortar Headds 卐
@ X-Gear: Transformers only get taken out by humans in the Michael bay's butchery of my beloved Transformers. I personally perfer Transformers, however I dislike the designs for the movie & some of the choices they made for the movie are pretty dumb. I really want to know whose idea was it to make Devestator a tank or turn Frenzy into Scooby Doo.
the movie designs were way too busy. when the robots started fighting it just became a big cluster of metal. you couldnt really tell what was going on. and the lips! whose god givin idea was it to give optimus lips!? gudam all the way! gotta love my rick doms!
@MonkeyKombat That with Devestator was a error. He is actualy called Brawl and it will be changed in the DVD version.
