#w#3,4,REIDEEN#w# (reideen.jp)
#w#5,6,MOONLIGHT MILE#w# (wowow.co.jp/anime/moonlight/)
#w#7,8,ウエルベールの物語#w# (avexmovie.jp/lineup/wellber/)
#w#15,16,ヒロイックエイジ #w# (starchild.co.jp/special/heroicage/)
#w#19,20,ひだまりスケッチ#w# (tbs.co.jp/anime/hidamari/)
あきらめた理由は覚えていない^^;

Lucky Star is one of my favorite animes this season. I'd give it a second chance for sure. The first 10 minutes is a bit boring w/ the food talk, but it gets a lot better later on in the episodes.

Impatience can be helpful, like the way you say it helped you career. I think the trouble comes when you just let your impatience control your decisions/actions without any sort of a direction. Then it just seems to be nothing more than the proverbial bull in a china shop

I've dropped these on the list. Lucky Star really picks up on episode 5. I think that the director change had a lot to do with. But then Lucky Star is awesome because of Kagami. But then, I might be biased.

I agree that Lucky Star doesn't hold up to all the hype it caused, especially with the first episode. Lucky Star has its really great parts like episode six with the Initial D reference and slight Azumanga Daioh as well. I still watch Lucky Star hoping for that great episode everyone will want to watch, sadly it hasn't shown itself yet. But then the rest of the episode wasn't really that good. I don't see Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, does that mean you picked it up again?

i dropped anime that didn't meet my standards such as boring storyline and stuff that happen too frequently in the anime (like blood coming out of a guy's nose or a group of people blasting into the sky in every episode). Sometimes i dropped watching an anime after seeing about more than 6 episodes mainly because i was expecting the next episode to be better than the previous one.

Don't try Lucky Star again. I've read lots of comments about how it picks up after such-and-such episode, so I gave it a second chance and it didn't pay off.

Reideen: I really like this one, but it's got a really odd, slow pacing. I guess the bizarreness of starting a series with a really slow-moving mech fight was weird enough to catch my eye. (Also, I kinda like Saigo piloting in his alltogether, and I was disappointed when the ep came where they give him a uniform to wear inside (questions of how he keeps it on when he loses everything else aside). With all the guy-oriented fanservice out there, it's nice to get a little nice-body-action for the chicks, now and then. ^_^)

I'm still watching Skullman, for some reason. It didn't really look interesting to me to begin with, but for some reason, I watch it anyway. I say: don't bother.

Seirei: I'm enjoying this one, but really, all I have to say about it is that she's much cuter with her hair down. ^_^

Well I really must say, I don't have ANY of those anime's in my "to watch" list... Except for maybe Lucky Star, but I really haven't seen much of it to make want to see the whole thing...

I try to watch some of the anime before I get and watch it.

Danny, if you are so impatient and like short series, try Kyou-no-Go-no-Ni (Today in Class 5-2) if you haven't already. It's genious if you like comedy like School Rumble and such.

Currently on my "to watch" list:
ANY Gundam (really curious about the series since I really love the Gunpla and the series' games)
Cromartie High-School
Eureka Seven

And I'm in the middle of Samurai Champloo and Witchblade.

The only anime i dropped this year is Idolm@ster Xenoglossia at episode 4. Rumor has it that is it getting better.
Like many other people, Lucky Star only picks up after episode 3. The openning to me is really addictive (つω;)

El Cazador is alright, the production quality is on par with darker than black with beautiful op & ending song. The story line is not very exciting & slow but still worth a watch, could be a short series. You going to pickup the new gundam series "Gundam 00" danny? Gunota just posted some info about it, set to air Oct 07.

I kinda enjoy El Cazador, the story seems interesting.

As for Lucky star, I can't say I dun like it at all, but to me it just isn't quality anime. Though the production team does put in losta effort, like having a different ED theme each episode and even having Konata send in a postcard to Newtype.

The two here which are also on my drop list:
El Cazador
Moonlight Mile

Two that are not:
Hidamari Sketch
- it's abstract and thats why I like it
Lucky Star
-for me, it picked up at the second episode. I guess with this, you can watch from any episode since there is no central plot. Also, my favorite character so far is Narumi Yui (the police officer) who is intruduced later on.

Two I've watched extensively but mysteriously dropped:

Last Exile
Serial Experiments Lain

Lucky Star is one of my favorites this season, but... I don't know exactly why. I just find it mesmerising. I do feel, though, that the first episode was its worst showing by far. The director was replaced as of episode 5, and I feel (along with many others) that the presentation has been tightened severely.

In fact, I was about to recommend giving it another shot... until I read that you didn't care for Hidamari Sketch. Lucky Star and Hidamari Sketch are both alike in that they are dialogue driven 4koma adaptations, and it shows.

Unless you think several blatant and many more subtle otaku-oriented references being inserted into its dialogue would have made Hidamari Sketch entertaining, I'd say Lucky Star just isn't up your alley.

I haven't seen most of those on your list, however The SKullman was on my watch list along with reideen, but i had only seen trailers, so i guess ill have to see for myself. As for lucky star, i saw ep 1 the other day, and even though, like you said, there is alot of dialogue, for some strange reason, i found it rather hilarious xD

I think right now though, the best series i have picked up this month is Darker than Black ^_^

Definatley, like other people say, give Lucky Star a second chance. This is hilarious 90% of the time imo. Also the fact that the 4 main characters are based off of Eroge Stereotypes and one of the girls is an Otaku (and Haruhi fan) just makes it so much more enjoyable. Probably the best anime i've watched since Haruhi. But then i guess it's all about trying to fit in the time to watch all these different anime and keep up with work at the same time

Lucky Star was a nice choice to drop. Unlike most others, I find it to be overhyped. Although I do enjoy watching it from time to time it's not high on my priority list either.

Only reason why I watch it is because it reminds me (just a little) of Ichigo Mashimaro.

I pretty much agree with most your choices there; I'm not really a mecha fan so I didn't even bother to watch them at all ^^;

Lucky Star and Hidamari Sketch are still on my to-watch list though; the latter is really all dialog - seeing as it's slice of life - but it's something I watch to relax to. Lucky Star, on the other hand, gets better and funnier as you go on. Particularly in episode 6 onwards. It could just be me though.

I wanted Rocket Girls to be good, but like you said it just took too long for anything to happen.

I love Heroic age, once you get past the animation's quality the story really does make up for it.

What ever happened to Kissdumm Engage Planet? Looks like it may have been dropped by every one including the fansubbers.

I rather enjoyed Moonlight Mile's first season and looking forward to the 2nd. I did compare it to Planets at first, but it goes it's own direction which I have enjoyed. But I tend to watch odd shows anyway. I down to 3 shows myself from the season that I will finish. Touka Gettan, Hayate no Gotoku!, and Moonlight Mile. What's bad is the fact that the only Summer anime I'm looking forward to is School Days . . . .

I'm surprised that Seirei no Moribito is on your drop list, given that I find it to be -- hands down -- the most worthwhile series this season. The plot is an excellent mix of intrigue and adventure, the cast of characters is compelling, the artwork is top-notch, and the animation is wonderfully fluid (with some of the best action scenes I've seen in anime in quite a while).

Besides, the designers clearly put quite a bit of thought and effort into bringing their fictional world to life, little things like inventing an entirely new written language, inventing a whole new set of customs, foods, traditions, etc.

Pick it back up. I doubt you'll regret it.

Hey Danny,

just wondering if you watched any of the manly anime such as Armoured Trooper Votoms, Space Battleship Yamato?
(ID #49042) Posted on 2007/06/04 14:20
When watching anime, I've compiled it two main categories: collecting and testing.

There has been quite a number of series that I usually obtain to watch the episode and delete after watching it. Why? It has to satisfy my nitpicky standards :D

Here is a list of anime I've dropped (or watch then delete) for Spring 2007:

Hayate the Combat Butler! - Funny, but too slow pacing for my tastes with no actual progression for a storyline.
Seto no Hanayome - Forceful humor tied with your typical storyline.

Shining Tears Cross Wind - No reason necessary.

Sola - Overhyped, overrated, and such a copycat of other series, but I was surprised there was an action scene (a person wielding a sword) in the first episode for a shoujo show.

Lucky Star - The opening animation and song is the only saving grace for this craptastic series.

Kaze no Stigma - Watch & Delete.

The Skullman - As you've already mentioned Danny, the expectations were unfortunately not met. After struggling through episode two, I am wondering as an audience we're being mislead and constantly questioning who is the real main character for this story.

El Cazador de la Bruja - So, so boring.

Here is what I am testing for Spring 2007:

Heroic Age
Idol Master XENOGLOSSIA
Oh Edo! Rocket
Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica
Darker than BLACK
Dennou Coil

Will test soon:

Koutetsu Sangokushi
Lovely Complex
Wellber no Monogatari

Let's see, series I've dropped for now:

Idolmaster Xenoglossia - Moe girls? Mecha action? How could it go wrong? Bad subbing, that's what. Unless another fansub group picks it up, I'm staying away. The group currently subbing it did such a bad job with the first episode that I couldn't stand it. Times like these make me wish I knew Japanese fluently so I could just watch without subs.

Code Geass - The death of a certain character kinda ruined the series for me, plus this long delay for the last 2 episodes has killed any interest I had left in this show.

Gurren-Lagann - I'm just putting this one on the backburner until all the episodes are out. I want to watch it straight through with no interruptions.

Series I'm currently watching:
BLEACH, Eyeshield 21, Ikkitousen Dragon Destiny, Kotetsushin Jeeg, Naruto Shippuden, Prince of Tennis National Championship, Nodame Cantabile, Turn-A Gundam, Seirei no Moribito, Shining Tears X Wind, Claymore, Dancouga Nova, Sousei no Aquarion OVA, Mai Otome Zwei, and of course, Lucky Star.

Series I'm most looking forward to in the fall: MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM OO (Double Oh). That's right guys, we're getting a new Gundam series in October!!!

The only one I really dropped recently is Reideen. I was looking forward to it, but with all the other shows I was watching at the time, Reideen just seemed boring and mediocre compared to them.

Skullman I'm holding onto just because I am hoping there will be a total awesome fight scene with Skullman sometime this season.

may i suggest Edo Rocket? i've heard some good initial reviews of it ^^

so far, the only 2007 spring anime titles that i've dropped is Sola. i haven't watched El Cazador, Seirei no Moribito...actually, almost everything on your dropped anime list Danny lol XDDD

I've given the ax to a lot of anime this time around too. Skullman, Dancouga Nova, Hayate no Gotoku and such have all fallen to the side. A few have fallen to my secondary list too.

I ended up in a conversation yesterday about what Lucky Star character one is most like... ^^; Well anyway, yes Danny, give Lucky Star a try again after episode four. Watch a few, not just four... ^^; I like five and six on. I enjoy this anime so much because it's very relaxing for me. No complex story lines or character histories, just simple sillyness. If you don't watch you may feel the wrath of Akira-chan! ^o^ She's getting more schizoid with every episode. Cousin Yui is a really dizzy cop and so much fun.

Planetes is one of my favorites as well. I always enjoy these space type programs. Like Tom Hanks, I could sit and watch NASA test footage and be happy. God I need a life. ^^; Moonlight Mile is improving story as it progresses, about episode six and seven. It's developing a lot of intrigue and military overtones. Although, not liking the animation style is sure to push one away.

It's good if you can determine a hard days work. I'm terrible at that, always feeling I could have done more. Your not alone Danny, I find myself impatient when it comes to most things. I'm so busy with everything I expect quick results. Fortunately I'm not out of control as some people are about this. For instance when it comes to making new contacts, I always let things move at their own pace. I'm always that way with other people. You can't create new business contacts or friendships overnight.

I surrender the soapbox... ^^;

I was a bit apprehensive of looking at Lucky Star again after I watched the first episode. It wasn't that awful, but it did not really hold my attention.

But after hearing about the change of directors and how the episodes got better, I went back and took a chance and glad I did!

I'd have to agree that the first episode of lucky star wasn't all that good. I was bored up until about halfway of the first epi. Things picked up about episode 3 and so on. What got me really hooked into the series was the ending of epi 5. heheh.

The best thing I actually like about lucky star is the sillyness of it. And the fact that I can totally relate to Konata. weheheheh!

Will give it a whirl.

Shinsengumi,
Will do ^^

My Boy,
Have not but it looks good - will check it out.

Tangey,
Will check em out.

Syrix,
Picked up Gurren again and it seems decent so far.

I hardly ever drop a series. It has to be THAT bad for me to drop it completely.

On the Lucky Star debate sometimes I find some parts of quite enjoyable (especially the obscure references). But then again I'm patient and you need a bit of patience to watch Lucky Star I think.

Seirei no Moribito is really good, the anime production quality is high. Not only in terms of graphics, but also the plot. I watched until episode 8 now and totally liked that episode, the story is well crafted so that insignificant things at first will fit in later. If you liked Ghost in the Shell, than I strongly recommend this one.

"Patience is a bitter plant but it has sweet fruit"
Good things happen to those who wait, but in many cases that doesn't mean that the longer you wait the better it will be. I usually prefer to not watch anime when I'm tired, because no matter how interesting, I still doze off.
