鬼怒川の近くに撮った。Book Offは皆さんがご存知と思いますが、同じ系列がHard Offという店も開いています。中古ハードを売っています。しかし"Hard Off"の英語の意味は。。。"勃起"です^^;

Onsens are so awesome. I went to Atami last year during the winter, and there was nothing better than having a morning bath in the freezing cold. Very relaxing and having drunk beer and had a full course meal, it gave me the best sleep I've had in years.

The first picture somehow makes me think of the bridge from "Higurashi no naku koru ni" (Anime) -___-

I have never been to an Onsen. Closest to that was having a bath over that the public bath when I was in Japan for holidays 1- years back :/

Would love to try it thought.

I've never been in a real onsen but I did go to a public bath when I was in Japan. There are quite a few steps that just seem so natural to Japanese but totally bewildered us foreigners. My friend actually brought the basket where you place your clothes in the changing room, into the bath! That was before the days of anime so no one knew any better.

Sometime in the future I'll sure like to go to a real onsen. I heard that mixed ones only have ugly, old or fat chicks.

"Our trusty Nissan March parked at Momiji Line - a never ending twisting road lined with autumn trees and man eating snakes. A nice route for passengers - dead boring for the driver."

Perhaps you can try some initial D style of driving along the twisting road, drfiting ard the corners and so on :P

Onsen, shared bath is a definite no-no for me, its one of the best place to spread fungal infection

Same things happen in Malaysia. If there's a continuos public holidays, everywhere will be packed & traffic jam on the road. You'll mostly spend double of the time you'll need to reach your destination. Thsu I rather use my annual leave & go travel during low season.

Nearly seven years here and I still don't like sharing a bath - no matter how big it is - with men. I did once go to a communal onsen, though, which I shared with two very friendly women who, unlike the blokes, didn't spend half the time looking at my crotch... I can very much empathise with you about sitting in traffic on the three day weekends though. Can't wait to have kids asking 'are we nearly there yet?'!>_

The 1st picture you took at Kinugawa Onsen (the one on the webpage, at the cliff overlooking the bridge) is an excellent shot. I would like to have that as a desktop wallpaper. Could I have a copy of the picture at the original size? I don't mind if you want to watermark on the lower right hand side.

Being Finnish and all, I imagine onsen being a very close experience to (Finnish) sauna. Everyone in Finland used to go to public saunas and using a towel to cover your private parts was (and is) out of the question. (There was an anime in the 80's I believe that was set in Finland and the characters used towels to cover themselves up in sauna. This is still an inside joke in the Finnish anime scene, because it's just such an absurd idea.) But these days most people have their own saunas so we've become a bit more shy about being naked. Do Japanese still use public baths and onsens a lot? Is being naked a taboo in Japan or is it considered more of a natural thing?

Everytime I go to Japan, I need to stop at one or two Onsen to relax. 2 Years ago I went to one near Ise and one in Shirahone. The one in Ijika was more a hotel/onsen by the coast. While the one in Shirahone, was in the mountains and totally out in nowhere. That onsen had a outdoor sulphur bath. Was weird bathing outdoor in the end of April with snow outside and smelling like sulphur when I got out, but it was an incredible place. Here are some pics from those two place.

Theres a mixed onsen in the Hakone area that is very popular with English speaking tourists. They have an indoor and outdoor mixed bath area. Its quite low key compared to the big resort onsens, its a family owned joint. But we had a great time there. And if you have a big tour group there you can all get naked together if you feel the need. Unfortunately there wont be any hot local Japanese girls in there though.
