I'll probably need to use the straps otherwise the remote would probably become a deadly missile when it slips from my sweaty mitts.

I could only vote for one choice on the poll, but I use several of the features.

Thanks for the review Danny. Maybe I should say thank you to your wife for ordering you to get the wii. ^_- Hmm... I'm beginning to wonder if Sony is slowly killing itself in the game market. The PS keeps getting bigger, more expensive and having more problems. Sony needs to remember nothing is wrong with being simple. Then again, "coolsome" is what we look for from Sony.

"Could the Wii be a device jointly developed by Nintendo and the Japanese government to get all the hikkikomori to shape up without leaving their homes?"

It would surprise me if it was so. inbou inbou...

Good point!  We all have Figure Research Laboratories!  We are actively involved in the betterment of mankind through the advancement of figure research.  Well... something like that... ^^;

BTW, I voted for two in the poll, but I use one and three almost as often.

Glad the Wii is you your liking, Danny. No, you aren't the only one to use the strap, I use mine so is not to break my new LCD TV. Continuing from my last post, the Wii number is like the friend code found in the WiFi games on the DS. The Wii numbers is like an e-mail address for the Wii console. If you go to your Wii message board and click on create message, in your address book is your Wii number. If you give your number to others with Wiis, then you can write messages to them, or have your Miis travel to them!! Yeah I'm curious to see what kind of Miis you created, so sent them my way!

better make sure everyone using the wiimote has the strap on. wouldn't want to risk seeing the controller flying straight to your tv now, do we? heheh :D

btw, which one do you think will win the next gen console war? I'm guessing it'll be a close fight between the PS3 and Wii in the end.

he he...good luck danny with v1.0 of every hardware.

to me, the first version of every hardware is nothing more than a public beta. _you_ work for the company to find bugs ;)

just take a look at the ps2 slim, what a size reduction .. :D

i generally prefer FPS, and there's nothing better than a PC for playing FPS games.

and btw, i still have my nes box..and it works pretty well :D

beats ps3 and wii anyday ...

I waited in line for 5 hours to get my Wii this morning. I woke up at 3am (before hand I knew our Wal*Mart was getting them in stock) and went on over.

There was a line of about 20 folks so I got in line. As it got closer to 8am (sale time) about 200 people showed up, but only the first 35 of us got our Wiis (I got to sign a list). I am now enjoying my new Wii at home =) Zelda TP is GREAT.

Seems the Wii is near impossible to find in the States, because in 15 minutes 35 Wiis were gone: roughly 2 minutes a transaction (about what mine took). All of the accessories, too are selling out. Glad to have mine, and Im glad for employee stock leaks! woo!

The Wii looks nice and got fun games to play, but i prefer the PS3 its an awesome (shiny) machine a multi media bomb ! And ofcourse the games are much better of quality and graphics, thats why i bought a big BRAVIA LCD flatpanel. Your such a lucky b@stard Danny playing two great consoles. For the friggin PS3 we still have to wait till march back here in Europe, but i know it will be worth it knowing what games are commin for it... MGS4, DMC4, GT5, F1 Champions Edition, Killzone2, Heavenly Sword, Getaway, Africa, Lair, Motorstorm, Tekken6, Team ICO, Warhawk, etc etc you name it.. So i know my choice is made. I'll probaly buy a Wii late next year..

Wow, reading about the ball and chain feels so devastatingly good. I love the crunchy feel of it. Wham! Bam! Smashing goodness, metal- to-metal. It's so physical. BTW, I'll still go for the Winchan.. instead of the mizuho with the hole there. And I'll stick to the PS3. For the Xbox 360, maybe if there's another hacked version of the DOAX. Sure, why not.

Mungus,
Thanks for that - will give it a whirl.

Thanks for the link ^^

I haven't bothered to use the hand strap. It's like what Ninendo says about flying remotes, when playing the bowling game on Wii Sports, you let go of the 'B' button, not the remote.

Densha Otoko Jr. in Taipei, Taiwan,...
after reading your wii review, i must say i am a little shaken up and reconsidering about buying what do buy for the nextGEN console!

Wii now looks very promising, returning to the roots of simple gameplay that people have been longing to own since the golden age of the 80's...i mean cool graphics is cool, but i am very much in agreement with the conspiracy factor of turning gaming into something much more than the "two hand" activity...

Shake your body while playing game should be the next step, and Nintendo is very well on track of such a goal: enhancing physical interaction with the virtual world. The implication should be tremendously healthy and fun.

This might be a little off topic but i think Wii is starting to remind me that is is similiar to what HOLODECK in Star Trek aims: fully integradtion of the body to a virtual environment. Instead of just using your hands and eyes (hand-eye coordination), your body is what is the driving force behind the gaming world. I could foresee that gamers equipped with sensory pads on each joint point of their body, wearing those VR headsets, and connecting to a gaming interface and load ing up the program...The game pad would just become obsolete...

Am i just babbling too much? I do find that graphics and the technology can wait...it is the gameplay, likewise, like the integrity of any entertainment, will never die...

That's all, PS3 is still good, but Wii is one sparkling "we are one" machine!

Hey!
First I want to say that you have a great webpage. Really great. =)
Well, I would like to ask you about your camera, I saw that you took the pictures of your Wii with your Canon kiss.
I want to buy a canon camera and I really like the one you have. I checked the Internet for information and there is a new model calles 'kiss digital x'. Would you say that it is better to buy digital X than N? The X model is a some kind of upgrade from N, isn't it?
As you understand now, I am new at this. And I would like some advice.
Could you recomend some stores in Tokyo, where it's good to buy cameras? I do not really know where to start when I arrive.
Thank you for your time.

I've seen several things on TV about people throwing the remote and breaking things. I even saw one where the remote was actually lodged halfway into the plastic trim around the TV set. Either some people are just really stupid or this is a misinformation campaign by sony and/or microsoft to make people think Wiis are dangerous.

Danny, how's your Wii (oops) doing 9 months after you got it?
I'm planning on buying both (Wii and PS3), but I really don't wanna waste this much money for some fancy dust collectors, if you know what I mean.

In the last console generation, I bought a GameCube and PS2. Both were fun, but not for too long.

One thing I specially regret buying was the Donkey Kong Bongos... I already had Taiko no Tatsujin drums for PS2.
I must've played like a week tops with the Bongos, and -nevermore.

Anyways, nice review.

Wow Danny-san,

You have a PS3 & now you own a Wii??? Do you have the X360 as well? I do not envy you because it's a sin but I hope that I will be able to get hold of a PS3 locally. It's really expensive here! Rediculously expensive! Do consider me should you ever wanna sell ur PS3 :P

So, is the Gundam game just you throwing around the Gundam-Hammer (the "ball and chain") all the time?

Also, I think the Gundam qualifies as an "it."

he he...good luck danny with v1.0 of every hardware.

to me, the first version of every hardware is nothing more than a public beta.

Well, that's a good looking console!

Will you use the Wii's virtual console to play some C64 games Danny? ;-)

"I didn’t plan on getting a Wii until my wife ordered me to."

LOL! This means Nintendo has succeeded. Does she have a DS Lite yet? Oh, & your idea of strapping 4 wiimotes, that's the first time I've heard of it and it sounds cool! Man, u ARE creative!

Glad to have mine, and Im glad for employee stock leaks! woo!
