I saw that on Tv. cool. Aren't those watermelons grown in glass boxes or something like that because they would just take the shape of what they were grown in.

Seen it on TV but have never seen the actual, seems that the Japanese like to "create" "weird" fruits, IIRC theres (apple?) that mimicks the smell of a different fruit.

Square Watermelon atleast makes sense cos of easy packaging.

But neither would I want to touch these nor would I want to eat raw veal. LOL

It's just a regular watermelon that was grown in a glass box. It was designed for easy packaging and they cost an arm and a leg along with your whole entire gundam collection... kidding, it will only cost a leg. :P

I saw one of those on TV and thought it was interesting. It's basically just a square watermelon, nothing more, nothing less but still interesting.

I know this one well~
It is produce in Taiwan,

and it is grow within a square glass

Why it is so expansive?
1: From Taiwan to Japan, the tax
2: this idea has copyright, and each purchase has a high value added.
3: when it was 1st announced, the glass was not designed to be able to reuse. Once the fruit has grow up to the size that cannot take out from the glass, and it is always, the glass has to be brake. The cost of the glass.
4: The farmer only plant an amount, so there are only a few been produced.
5: the farmer has signed contract with certain wholesaler only, since it is been monopolized of cause the price goes up!
