Think it often paired with pork intestines in the brown sauce? I love their egg + tofu with the sauce tho ^^; Once I asked for just those with the kway chap and the vender looked at me funny :P

LOL I always ask for mine with only eggs and dried tofu as well... not really into the intestines and pork meat. But I really love the soup!

it's flat rice sheets. i eat for it for lunch weekly. ^^;
i don't go for the intestines. usually just tau Pok (fried beancurd puff), tau kwa (seasoned tofu cubes) and braised hard-boiled eggs.

Is pork intestines bad in singapore? I ate some a few years ago in china and they tasted great.

Apparently if they didn't clean the intestines properly you'll taste... poo taste? ^^; But it's supposedly not the most healthy -- what they mean by "bad" ^^;

Agreed, I don't like anything that's an organ or performs a real function. Went to a Brazilian restaurant one time with friends and they had chicken hearts that only like 1 in 5 of us tried and he said it was incredibly tough and was surprised about it. The heart is the hardest, most constant working muscle in the body, toughens itself up all the time. =P Are intestines tough/chewy/soggy?

Okay.......but does it belong to a bigger country like China or something. Parts of Asia are really confusing at times. All I know is Japan, China, South Korea, North Korea, Phillipines, Thailand, Malaysia & India. All the other smaller parts of Asia seem like they belong to these other Asian countries.

Like Taiwan & Hong Kong.......which i believe belong to China.

Also, is there really a Laos? I've watched King Of The Hill all these years and wondererd if Hank's neighbors really exist in Asia....lol

There really is a country call Laos, which is in South-East Asia.

And some people will call Singapore the 'Little Red Dot' in the world map, so it's possible that you didn't notice it previously. It's a multi-racial country. The main language here is english, but I normally speaks chinese or 'singlish'. ^^;

Hi Hi, just an add-on to G2's comment over the language thing:
The national language of Singapore is Malay. And most Singaporeans speak their mother-tongue and English.

The official languages of Singapore are English, Malay, Mandarin and Tamil.

Every group seems to speak their mother tongue but when they talk to each other it's usually in English or Singlish. English did seem to be the main language though from looking at the TV, newspapers, magazines, signs, books and menus.

Very interesting read. Would like to visit Singapore myself sometime and sample those lovely foods. Question though, I notice Danny that you bring Kagami almost everywhere you go. But since food stalls and food courts and the rigors of travelling are quite demanding, how do you avoid smudging your figure with all those oils and food grease?

You wash your Kagami daily?

Wow, it's huge~ I've never seen a place with so many food stalls before. Closest I've gotten to something similar is 2 semi-hidden food courts in Chinatown, you have to go down stairs or elevators to reach them, it was an interesting experience the first times I went :3

Food looks yummy~ but I wouldn't try anything without recommendations ^^;; I'm the type that rarely experiments with new foods, unless it's similar to something else I've tried.

Ohhh~ it looks so tasty. I had a crunchy chicken in sweet'n'sour sauce with rice for lunch but I'm sure I could still eat tons if it was that Poh Piah.

Welcome to Singapore Danny! While you are enjoying the glorious food in Singapore, you might want to visit the beaches in the evening, if you have the time. The beach at East Coast Park is a good bet. ^^

ugh my comment got eaten again :/

anyway.. welcome to Singapore!

oh you should head down to Sentosa if you have time.
It's a popular tourist attraction, the real island paradise south of Singapore which can be accessed by a skytrain for just $3.
and the skytrain happens to depart from VivoCity, the largest shopping mall in Singapore.
Sentosa has the best beaches in Singapore, although it's still nothing compared to many other beaches in the world heh ><

oh but if you do intend to go there, remember to check the weather forecast because it'll probably be raining these few days.

hope you enjoy your stay here!

Yeah I really enjoyed my visit to Sentosa and watching the pink dolphins.

The beaches are nice. Imported sand, imported trees, but at least the water is original. ;)

I went to Singapore for 2 weeks in late 2006 :) Planning to go back there soon for a month (or 3). The food is delicious, I could quite happily go without a McDonalds or KFC again in my life if I lived there. Even chicken rice was really yummy and it only cost me S$3! Although that's probably gone up now. :( Oh well, at lest they still have cheap electricity bills, right?

Awesome! But... the best thing I ever tried there (when I took a trip there 2 years ago) was the "Nasi Lemak", which I'm pretty sure was what they called the one that was wrapped in the banana leaf... but afaik, anything that begins or ends with Nasi is really good around there.... Actually "Nasi" may mean rice, idk. Anyways, I'm glad you're enjoying Singapore, at least in the culinary aspects. Also, try the "Sarsi" it's like a carbonated Sarsaparilla Beverage sort of like root beer, and a bit more fragrant, I couldn't find them anywhere else, but I wouldn't miss it.

I had a phobia of foods from India before because of the smell and spices, but some of them turn out to be not too bad, partly because some of my co-workers are East Indians. Hopefully you can get over those phobias and enjoy foods from around the world.

Oh one more thing... Indian sweets are just melt-in-your-mouth goodness *drool*

Man those are the stable food types in SG, can't escape from them, everyone in SG will either have tasted them at least once a year or have them every month... second occurrence is definitely not good for the arteries on the long run, thats why there is also Sign boards for some stores that informs customers that you can ask for Less Oil as a healthier choice....wonder do customers in other country's give that choice to their customers?

Just a little warning to some of you if you ever visit McDonalds in Singapore (why would you want to anyway, with so much nicer foods to eat ^^). Never, ever try and clear your tray away after eating. You would not believe the reaction I got. All these eyes watching the ang moh trying to steal the poor McDonalds girl's job. ^^;

One day I'll move to Singapore and live every otakus dream. I'll hire a mainland china girl as a maid and insist that she works in a proper maid outfit. :) I just hope my Singaporean wife won't mind too much lah.
