I'm very interested in working in the internet field and I would like to someday to reach the high level of success like the people you met at that event.
I'd just like a job
If your willpower is there, you'll get there eventually. I think Danny is a good example of this, but I myself have also worked up from a student to the owner of a well-running design company. Just pull through :)
*Votes Yes for neko mimi on armor, with tail.... XD
Looked like heaps of fun. Must have been super hot in the storm trooper armour.
It would be fun to have a nekomimi storm trooper~ It looks fun to otegai....
I'm not interested about working on the internet side of things, but who knows, maybe that'll change.
I've been working on web applications ~ but it's mainly used internally by companies XD
Hmm... Stormtrooper is aim blaster at Loic Le Meur's nuts. Found a couple of droids?
lol on Geass and oppai, I laughed my geass off on that. ^^; looks like you guys had loads of fun.
just noticed it, but is Hector really tall! (image ID#23107)
Oh. I'm a student of networking field. :D Though it seems I need to retake it since, I feel confused. BUT I WILL LEARN IT >D (is it OK with caps?)
I always thought of Danny's cosplay antics as a sort of Otagei ^^ And no, even though I spend all day in front of or next to computers, I'm not a tech guy at all (even though I've built all of my computer rigs except my 2003 rig by myself since the late 90s). Don't need another reason to be near a keyboard!
My lurking at 2:40am US eastern pays off. Working for the internet would be nice but my passion is in making games. favorite line "Escape in the Imperial Shuttle for a while"
wow, i'm at the point where im just beginning to forge a path in life (18yrs), but if i could grow up to be half as happy as danny and enjoy what i do, id be content. Looks like you really had fun danny!
Think Hector suits the Darth Vader role really well. He's built for it! Angelic indeed ^^ Is Hector really drinking through the straw with his helmet on???
Yes, he is pretty well built & tall enough for the suit. :)
ring me up if u need another trooper. ^^;
man that looks like one heck of a way to spend a day...tiring but satisfying...and surrounded by girls...well almost everything revolves around the internet so why not join in?...
Now that's cool!!!!!! Maybe you should do another video of Dancing Stormtrooper with Hector in Akihabara!!!!!! Your job allows you to do a lot of good stuff!!!!! Maybe I should pick up an HTML book at my book store and learn it so I can build websites and stuff too!!!!!!!
Damn right Rin. Building websites is fun.
Look like Danny & Hector had a great time with the Silicon Valley guys there ^_^ I always wanted to be in the internet field. Ever since I read about Bill Gates saying that in the next 10years, there are only 2 types of business will still exist in this world, 1 is internet business, another 1 is No-Longer-In-Business. I did tried to start my own E-Commerce business by retailing & distributing Video Eyewear/goggle about a year ago, but the proposal failed as I can't secure any investor, & most my capital had been wasted in research, companys' background due diligence & product samples....... However, I'm still willing to start my E-Commerce anytime soon.
Maybe you could sell your research instead? =o Another idea would be drop-shipping. Good luck with any future ventures, it's better to try it and fail than to never know.
With the limited resources & capital, I was indeed headed for drop-shipping ^_^
Most people wear business suits, danny wears armor. Oh seeing stuff like this makes me so envious. Good fun is Great Fun. I hope in the future I can find something I can do that gives me the ability to just go out and enjoy life and take in everything, without taking away the even further future. You got 1 shot at life after all, it's best lived with smiles and enjoyment. You truly are an inspiration to all of us Danny. (and Hector) Otagei looks fun.
Hooray for more trooper! Those girl's outfits are soooo cute. :D
I predict i would be working in the internet field or the designing field after i grad. thou what i'm studying now isn't related to it field at all. ^^; Had a couple of part time job before but all of them are in the designing field cept for the most recent one.. But it would be best to work in the area which you are interested in no?
Awesome Pics! I'm definitely interested in working in the internet field, but I don't know a bit of code. I'd love to eventually be working in online video production & distribution (video podcasts, internet TV shows, etc.), because I feel that I could use the knowledge I gained from working in Hollywood, and apply it to this rapidly-growing field! Great post as always, Danny!
Well, i guess i'm already heading into the industry anyway. But not as a programmer. But i always liked doing html, it always felt awesome when links worked, tables were merging properly, etcetc. But i guess will be supporting those who work in the internet field. Without people like me, you'll all be stuck localised to you workstations!!!!!! MUHAHAH~~
I wonder what aliens would say if they decided to come to earth and just happy to see a bunch of otaku doing otagei.
Hopefully one day i plan on working in a field on the internet. I'm slowly learning my php, sql is easy enough for now. Looks like you all had an awesome time :3
the Otagei dance is really funny. Lots of japanese really do love Star Wars characters. Internet field or programming field is my choice at the moment but i prefer the internet field since i really don't have a huge striving for programming at the moment.
already am though I still have a ways to go.
Working in the internet aint for me, I like to work with animals, so am concentrating on getting a job in that industry (Zoo keeper, breeder, shelter owner etc).
First line Danny, did you mean --> check 'his' LinkedIn) ? And "just done it" or is it "just do it" ? Hehe~ Looks like you guys had an awesome time though, would love to have been on that tour with you and Hector leading it xD. I do website design, but I haven't gotten around to getting my own business number so I haven't promoted myself ^^;; currently doing it on a per project basis for a local print shop though, used to work part-time for them :3 Actually, all my previous employers keep in contact with me xD;
Thanks for the typo check ^^;
hey danny, i think you mean :"Jean-Marie Hullot (responsible for core parts of Mac OSX and CEO of Fotonauts)" instead of "Jean-Marie Hullot (responsible for core parts of Max OSX and CEO of Fotonauts)" the mac os x part =P
Max OSX sounds good though ^^;
No worries~ *salutes* (^o^), Firite spotted another one, nice~
(Cheif Technologist of Mirai Inc) --> Chief You've also missed a few apostrophes in words that are littered across your article, like it's, didn't, etc And that's it from me, sorry to spam ^^;;
Muhaha. Thanks for the chief but im not to bothered about the missing apostrophes to be honest.
What's this? An English class? Haha well done for noticing people but i'm sure we would find loads of mistakes in all your posts and comments, give danny a break haha ^_^
Lucky you Mr Danny to get surrounded by those girls! I'm so jealous XD BTW Hector is TALL O_o I'm kinda interested in being in the Internet field but that's just probably because I'm addicted to the Internet right now. I don't exactly know what to do when I'm in the Internet business x_x
I think working in something to do with the internet would be great, but I don't have the imagination or skills to make something out of it personally. I have huge respect for those that do though.
I would love to work in the field that I spend time on everyday ^^
So if we went to Japan. I'll look for Stormtrooper with SOS Brigade armband to find you.
-- We need another trooper to be on the other side. -- Trooper reporting sir, atleast next year augustus if i can get a trooper outfit (money spending before holidays is not a smart thing ;p) and if i can get it into Japan somehow without using all my luggage space xD
I'm living in Japan, is more easy hehehe ^^
hehe true but would be cool to do a dance off against danny in a trooper suit
Well, I'm very interested in Internet Field, I'm always need of an computer with internet...
looks rlly cool, maybe when i graduate (in a long time) :( and finally become that highpowered accountantlaw guy (hah lol) ill get some free travel over to japan and be able to do stuff like that ... hopefully
Plan on working in the Computer Graphics field so this'd be really awesome
hector probably needs a little more make up if he wants to walk around without his mask. ^^
huhu we can see you smiling under your stormtrooper helmet ^^ and guys, no need to be a big coder to work in the internet field, there are a lot of other things to do in that business ... o/
I agree with JAmes, the armor can't hide your smile which reaches the heavens XD Looks like you had a very fun time again!
wow looks like you guys had fun, as for working on the internet someday.
I'm very much interested in working in the Internet field especially if i'm working relevant to my interest =3
Looks like you guys had alot of fun. Reminds me of the good ol' days when I used to wear white armor to the Star Wars movies. Though your armor is much more professional, I was poor so I only wore the helmet. Still alot of fun though. I work in the internet field now...sort of. I'm a Navy IT on the ship and for the most part, the only thing I do internet wise is unlock peoples accounts, create new profiles for new people, and go over rules of use. Even though the job for a Navy IT implies computers, its really more focused into radio and stuff I can't get into here. When I get out, I deffinetly would like a job on computers of some kind.
I'm very interested in learning Otagei now that I've seen the video. I'm working internally for Waterloo University with internet, but nothing too surprisingly fun .T_T. I want something more enthusiastic like programming and not looking at network connections most of the time.
They're still doing the Otagei?! Which reminds me, I still haven't learnt it yet... Danny with cat ears? I guess you'll look like this? http://www.flickr.com/photos/29932125@N03/2855799634/ ^^;
I think the "Team Leader" armband finishes the suit very nicely. :)
where's that rifle point at :-P
Not really interested in working in the internet field. Im hoping I will end up in job where I dont have to just sit in the office and meetings all the time but can do something else as well and currently it's looking promising, might end up being a consult in construction field so besides sitting in office and meetings I will have to check the construction sites from time to time :) And Yes! for the nekomimi (and tail). I can also imagine your armor covered in Hello Kitty stickers :P
already working in the internet field from years.
http://diy.despair.com/output/poster73164109.jpg Just had to demotivate the last pic. :P
I see you had lots of fun in Akiba, great pictures.
I currently work at a small marketing firm as designer mostly web but also as a cross media direct for programmers and video editors (this use to be an all Video company). I've been her almost 2 yeas and though my CEO is trying to launch a dot com (no were near ready or robust enough) and lose the old marketing business, I disagree and don't like were it's going. I think for me it would be very interesting to work overseas.... well maybe someday :)
Last photo is priceless! I will like to work in internet field, but i don't know what ia need to do that. I'm just a blogger who knows a little bit of HTML and a little less of MySQL.
Wow, awesome Vader and Storm Trooper duo! I wonder if it's still hot inside the armor even during the winter time. That live house place looks great, I'll be sure to check it out next time I visit Japan :)
Thats what I want to do when i'm older i think ^_^ I have 4 GCSE in ICT, and currently studying A level ICT aswell. Sort out an interview for me in the future Danny? ^_^ Btw Vader looks very uncomfortable in his first few photoes haha, looks uber still in one pose XD. Dark Lord camera shy maybe?
Awesome... I'm interested in the area, yes... dunno if I can work some money out of it though. Working for it, but things are a bit tough in Brazil. I think I still get more clicks from people outside Brazil, even though there are not many blogs like mine around here. It's something about the brazillian culture... most people, even middle class people with degrees and all, don't have the habit to discuss, post comments and follow internet news sources, blogs or forums.
Oh, also... I'm trying to find a good quote from Jeff Vader... "Death by tray it shall be!" http://xspblog.com/2008/06/09/eddie-izzard-death-star-canteen/
LOL Hellz yes! :D Eddie Izzard FTW!
I think I'd rather do storyboarding or animation, because I'm too much of a storyteller to be happy without that. But I guess if I were a webcomic artist and made my living that way, it could work.
Already in the biz and it is great ^_^
that geass & oppai have been exposed for while
Wow, wish they have this kind of gathering in Silicon Valley
image ID#23105: Greatest picture! I would like to work a carefreeing fun job..
Cute girl next to you on 23069. Looked like a lot of fun! @"The thing is, when you are doing something good for the company, you are actually doing a lot of good for yourself at the same time. If you are working for others, take the initiative to make the most out of your position - not just for the company but for yourself too." I think that's an excellent point. I think that a lot of times, people don't want to work for others because they don't want to feel that they're selling out - but, you just have to do what you can with what you've got, right? I think people could learn a lot with a humble attitude and some ambition. And you ended up doing great. So good life lesson. and @"And if you feel that you have accomplished all then its probably time that you move on." Amen. Otherwise, you might lose sight of things and might end up in some sort of vicious cycle :o.
On a side note, it is cool that you got Mr. Ito from Creative Commons to come with you on this trip. I am also glad you also use that license for your images.
it was rather gracious of the shop to open up just for you guys? did it cost ya a bomb though? and wait how come everyone has a santa hat now? it's barely november!
interested definitely... run an underground anime studio / printing press to print out quality fan made animation/stories... that would be nice... or a manga/anime/cartoon/comic library online... <- this is my actual goal in life, other than trying to graduate, getting a real job, and other business...
I see the internet more as a tool. More and more applications are internet-enabled and so more and more programmers are working with the internet and often write a front-end webpage (though often looking ugly). But if you don't watch out, you'll get pulled into the internet hype and try to create the best website.
Wow, that Code Geass R2 display is still up there huh, Last saw it back in May when I was in Tokyo for 12 hours due to a flight exchange ^^
By internet field, what do you mean? Coding? Publishing? IT? PR? BBQ? I think the internet is a great place because there are so many people from many different backgrounds. It's fascinating.
BBQ? LOL... you forgot Pron.
Well before the Internet, I were into CBBS/BBS back in 1986, in 1990 I got my 1st Internet access on Campus (I could access from home too). In 1996 I build an entire ISP from scratch and it was more than sufficient to support over 10000 lines (that's right!), I used Linux in 95% of company, the 5% remainder were used for Support staff (Windows) and .5% for Cisco IOS (router). The ISP worked like an Atomic's clock, from that I earned as much as $3k per month (yeah a complete joke), since I had some participation (%), but that was my big mistake since the company didn't last too long because the big boss decided to contract a newbie (big mistake) to make the charging program (and guess what? 50% were overdue after just a year), so in the end the big boss got tired of it and decided to shutdown the company for good. It only lasted until early 2001. From 2001~2007 I have been selling games and animes stuff, and currectly (2008) I'm unemployed (doh). That's the live on 3rd world, a big (BAD) joke (sigh). PS: Wow, I did an almost complete resume and few words. :P
errata "and few words" correct one: "in a few words."
where do u think you're pointing your blaster rifle at Danny? hahhaa (2nd last photo)
already work in IT area, but not sure I want to go web. I think I need a change away from IT <sigh>
Apart from Graphic Design, Software Support is another area I see myself in ^^ Looks like a fun vent took place, Danny-san. Glad to read that it was enjoyable you both you and Hector. Nice to see the armour once again!
I don't envy some of my friends in the IT line... Working long and at ungodly hours is a turnoff. Plus there's a huge influx of Indian talent in that area, wages are bound to be depressed -perhaps its just my country?- =O
Wow, the dance sure looks like fun. XD
Really nice photos! I like image ID#23105, surrounded by all those cute girls!
I want to do the dance! Then I'd have to get some friends to humiliate themselves with me, though. XP
Working in the Internet? A tempting of offer it is! But that Otagei dance is something new to me. That doesn't mean I want to try it.
you sure showed them how to giveaway tissues =DD
Nice pictures which where made for you. Hm.... where can I find the Dear Stage? :D Maybe it will come to my "watching" list ^^ Cute girls. The banner from their homepage is great. - Working in the Internet - not sure. I lean IT in school, but I dont plan to work as programmer or something like that. Need a job which is more exciting, like working for the "Zoll" in Germany or the dream as fire fighter in the municipal fire brigade ^^
I am very interested in networking in the web 2.0 biz of Japan. Seems like Danny is the connection point there.
Great articile, and full of pics, thanks danny :) Looks like the dark side of the force is getting fun :P Regards
A while back I remember reading this article and seeing a video of the otegai dance at the Dear Sage cafe. Does anyone know where I can find the video? The otaku dancers were very enthusiastic! It actually might have been on one of the blogs of the New Context Conference members who just happened to write about the same thing: Any help locating the video would be appreciated! Thanks.
