Nice pictures, but i'm afraid you missed the best food here in germany ^^
Spiessbraten mit Pommes Frites, Jägerschnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln, Kasseler mit Kartoffelbrei und Sauerkraut. Falscher Hase mit Semmelknödeln.

Go and search for a translation *G*

The prices vary from restaurant to restaurant. Pretty normal if you ask me ;)
still you can count on 15€ and up for a full meal with drink and stuff :/

And that Maggi-stuff is evil, so many flavour enhancements that it's not even funny anymore :(

No, no, this:
http://www.nestleghana.com/html/brands/Maggi/products/sauce_arome.html
and MSG stands for MonoSodium Glutamate (food flavor enhancer)

Actually pretty much every big german sauce/soup company was busy getting rid of MSG and other flavour enhancers in their products in the last 2 years.. which I'm pretty happy about because MSG sucks.

Hey, haruhi if you think the food is great in Germany you should try eating in Portugal. You would be very happy.

And you can even bring danny if you want, but i'll only pay your restaurant bill.

Over here it's pretty hard to find a Portuguese restaurant. I know there's one in Hamburg but I don't know if there's another one at all.

Yeah, the food there was delicious. :-)

I guess the food in Germany is better than in The Netherlands :( I think I saw some weisswurst on that picture of the BBQ though... bad, bad Haruhi.

Some of the pictures are really artistic, way to go! You could use another Haruhi figure for a change sometimes though.

Love to try a lot of the stuff shown and I guess a few are similar to the food available here in Australia. Not that pistachio and coconut (love coconut) drink though.

But i guess a week isn't just enough, also food isn't everything... seriously i won't miss anything if i go to Tokyo... then again i prolly see myself kickin my own ass for saying that once i am in Tokyo huh... hmmm!
Maybe i would end up cooking more myself to have "german food" as long as they have most of the groceries. ^^v

The basic costs of living, including eating have become increasingly expensive here the past years. (Belgium, Europe)

Food and drinks -either prepared food when you go out or just ingredients from the supermarket to prepare meals yourself- have also become more expensive, some as much as 40%!

you should try the schnitzel...I think it's from germany. It's really good. I've eaten like four times of it here in sweden in my two weeks here. Much of the stuff I love about european countries is their vast selection of meat and cheese. I love em.

Love that pic where there's a lot of grilled meat. :D Nice pic there haruhi! ^^ You should post more. Let Danny take a rest.

well, the government can't help it. if they set a price too high for the general public, people are going to go bonkers! also, the standard of living here is not that high as compared to our neighbouring country down south.

even so, i bet over there, the food price is considerably low as well... ^_^

In Asian countries, cows have never been a significant food source so milk (and milk products, cheese, etc...) is relatively uncommon among local/ethnic foods. Cheese can be quite expensive and most meat dishes use pork, or chicken. Not to mention this is also why beef dishes also utilize about as much of the cow as possible (stomach, intestines, kidney, etc...).
Some nutritionists believe this is why Asians have a 30% higher chance to be lactose intolerance and on average most Asians are unable to process up to 60% of the calcium and other nutrients from the milk. Many say this is also why only until recently the average height among the Asian population is shorter than that of Caucasians.
Personally, I assumed the rampant poverty among the general population is more responsible for keeping them malnourished and short...

haruhi... the way you are enjoying german potatoes and sausages reminds me of the time i had them when i was in Australia 3 years back. man, potatoes were dirt cheap there...and they tasted so good that i never got bored of them!

sausages were my favourite and because of these both, i put up 10 kgs in a month (mind you, that includes some jogging in the mornings!), and it's still isn't enough...

either way, enjoy your stay in germany, Haruhi! and plz bring mikuru with you in the future wherever you go, and i bet Kyon is the one taking the pics of you right now, and Yuki is holding placards for you to say the stuff!

Due to a recent economic recession, you will now find a lot of meals over $5USD to $10USD, depending on where you go. Restauraunt wise? in that range, but you can find much cheaper. We have family diners scattered around Pennsylvania that have delicious food for under or around $5.00, and I like those the best.

Subs? in germany??? Most of the food I saw in the photos is what I can live off of. I may plan an extensive vacation to Germany one of these days in the future... I want to see Europe. In fact, traveling the world has been a dream of mine.

Made me hungry...

Meal depends on what and where you eat... I already paid less than 5 bucks on a full meal.
I also paid more than 30 bucks once.

But compared to Japan and US, I guess in Brazil food is kinda cheap.

Pastry looks overkill in Germany, but my relatives thought that Japanese pastry was great too.

We've been on a restaurant that served only pastry, and in lots of pan-yas...

In Brazil we don't have that many types of pastry... we mainly have french bread and some other plain stuff so we have to stuff it ourselves.

The costs of meals are *always* higher in the 'tourist' or 'business' areas of metropolitan cities.
[Sorry - no Euro key on here.] (Re: The cost of the breakfast in the hotel versus the breakfast obtained elsewhere and eaten outside.)
Those proprietors make their profit from people in a situation like Danny (and Haruhi). They *do not* want them to discover the authentic, and less costly places where to eat and shop.

just mention anime or manga in germany and people look strangely at you, unless of course you are ages 13 or below

very ignorant, germany, in this regard

Wow, 15-20€? That would be luxury compare to over here in Vietnam.
It's a tropical country so the food always fresh and cheap. With around 5$ you could eat so full you'd feel uneasy, the only thing we need to concern is food hygiene <.<;

I forget the value of the £ versus the $, so I couldn't answer the poll ^_^;

Meals in the UK have really gone up recently. as before a sandwich would cost about £1-£2, it seems to have gone up to about £3 for a egg mayo sandwich.
Drinks have gone up too- 90p for a can of coca-cola! I don't think the treasury printing more money was a good idea, and its not as if I am being paid any more -_-;.

15-20 euros is not really the average ... it just depends on where you want to eat. You can have a yummy meal half this price everywhere in germany. I spent around 5-10 euros for my lunch on every day here. but if you are in germany as a tourist ... yes .. you probably just went to the places were you have to pay more (it's relatively expensive to eat at places like airports, trainstations or even at the train ... oh and of course at hotels) :)

Not sure I have ever seen weenies in a jar like that before, at least no memory of it. I got canned Vienna Sausages though with a really salty liquid. Haruhi didn't have a life vest on! I suppose you think being plastic will let you float? ;D

Love the no dog here sign. Need one for my front yard. Interesting french fry toppings, I always bake mine crispy and add 2 slices of American Cheese micro for 10 seconds and pass on ketchup. Haruhi has done well and should return with more tales of expeditions.

I think in Malaysia I can safely say
if you go for normal mix rice...you can have the meal less than RM5
but if you love fast food...you should be spending around RM20
and that's roughly around 5 USD?
1 USD = RM 3.80 / RM 4.00
when I was in Tokyo I think I spent around 1,600 yen for lunch and dinner
:D
