well if its only the First Volume then its pretty ok ... but when you go beyond that ..yeah thats spoilage XD
It depends on the series really. Bleach and Naruto for example, I'm too impatient to wait for the anime to catch up, especially when there are fillers. Then later I enjoy seeing what I already read animated. And a lot of the time, the anime is completly different (Mai MiME, FMA, Death Note's ending).
It really depends on the series in question. Some things work better in animation, some don't. Sometimes the animated version just sucks, and sometimes the animated versions are totally different to the point that comparing it to the original is silly (Excel Saga, Pani Poni Dash)
for me yes, like Naruto and D.Gray Man... but although it is spoil but when (re)watch in anime, quite interesting because got movement + music and etc...
I try not to read the manga for the anime I'm currently following, unless the anime progress too slowly (hint naruto, bleach). Or if the anime ends halfway, like claymore.
actually im waiting for a second season of Claymore.... also not reading code geass / bleach's manga :P, but im reading naruto manga cuz seems that ill see sasuke vs itachi in 2 years at least on TV.

It depends, I read Bleach and Naruto and later watch the animation to see what its like in colour or so. I don't think its spoiling it for me because I've read it (because its my main choice). Now, Choice, depending in what is the 'main'. If its animation then do not look at the manga (if the animation is a adaptation of a manga). Sometimes its the other way round, Manga adaptation of the animation such as Eureka Seven. I normally choose the first come, so I don't have that thing. Unless otherwise.
I usually see both the anime and the manga version. Both sometimes have parts that are present only in their respective version. Moreover, I actually didn't mind spoiler at all. p/s: in the manga version, the circumstances where Makoto have to hold buckets with both hands (seen in the opening) is actually different from the OP
Well, I don't think is spoils the anime... It actually strengthens your understanding and love for the anime... I'm a die-hard fan of anime, I usually read the manga first before watching the anime, cuz' I can show off to my friends and be the spoiler machine...
i remember we have a similar discussion 1 or 2 months ago about manga vs anime. personally i prefer manga more. i'm used to reading the manga first then watch the anime. it doesn't bothers me at all nor spoils the fun knowing he storyline beforehand. adding on, manga is definitely way ahead of the anime. if i just watch the anime, i'll be very left behind. one exception is claymore, i watched the anime first before i started on the manga.
in some situations i think that reading the manga can spoil the anime in some respects but not all. Take, for example, claymore, I found it just as entertaining when watching it after reading some parts in advance. Primarily because it's just different enough when you watch all the fights animated. Shows like Hayate no Gotoku and genshiken fare far less well as the anime doesn't really add anything more than what the manga has already shown you (except for that really really homo ep) so it does get a little tedious.
I prefer reading the manga first, since the anime is usually an adaptation...

Though I'm not too crazy about anime as I used to be, my undying love for manga stays the same. (go figure. O.o) So I would only watch a series in its animation adaptation if I *REALLY* like the comic enough. (such as death note & claymore) And even with those animes I eventually get tired of and immediately just revert back to the books... -.-"
I watched Akira (my intro to real japanese anime), and then years later read the Manga. I think because I did it in this order I wasnt annoyed by the huge amount of content left out of the movie. I had no advance expectations. I didnt already have ideas of how their voices should sound, or their facial expressions. Instead, it made me appreciate the storyline of the manga and just mearly notate the missing content in the movie without being frustrated. Plus, the anime score was epic.

I like manga better than anime.(Manga is cheaper, you get more story for your money, it may be in black and white in most cases but its so darn cute it hardly matters!!! Who's with me?) So it never spoils it for me. The anime always seems to be a let down... At least thats the case with all the manga-to-anime things I've seen. E.g, CCSakura manga is WAAAAY better than the anime in my oppinion, only thats not the best example, Fruits Basket, the anime was no where near as good... Some are pretty much the same, like Genshiken, there are no massive changes to that, and no story-gaps/jumps. The Gals! Manga goes in a slightly different order to the original Manga, but I saw the anime 1st, so I think of that as right. I suppose it all depends which you see first, the anime or the manga? It's kinda like the chicken or the egg. Fufufufufufufufu Which came first and which tastes better? lol
@Coffee-san: Here-here!! I started watching the Deathnote anime and it just didnt keep my attention at all... probably because I've already read it and its cuter in the manga lol. Same with alot of manga. Although I must read Ouran to see what the differences are. I do the same most of the time, only watch anime I've read as manga before. Although that restricts me somewhat, so now I've got Broadband finally, I can download stuff just to see if its any good, and if I like, I continue. Like with Ouran and Sky Girls.

I like also like manga a tad bit better than anime.(Manga is cheaper no matter which way you look at it, and you do get more story for your money. The anime always seems have an integral twist in the end.
for me it spoils the anime especially if the currently airing episodes are filler.. What i do is read the manga as soon as the anime season is over. In that way it's like reading the script of the movie
for me, manga is more true to original story the mangaka wants to tell, whereas anime can contain many fillers that i find annoying (take naruto for example). i think anime adaptations brings double the enjoyment to the original story. in some ways, the manga does spoil the anime, but i think if you enjoy an anime, you should read its manga counterpart too.
I go both ways! Wait, that came out wrong. Sometimes I like the Anime more, some times the Manga... some times I like both equally. Like Azumanga Daioh. I am kinda sensitive to spoilers, but it's been a long time I read/watch stuff that could be spoiled. Like now I'm watching only Lucky Star... there's not much to spoil there. But I usually pick only one.. Manga or Anime. And them I'll probably wait a while before getting the other version. So when I do it, it's kinda like remembering how the story went... which is nice. I also have the memory of a chicken, so it's not that much a problem.
In many cases, is not that manga spoils fun, is that the manga IS more fun. Other times, see the anime version gives you other way to enjoy a history,characters or other stuffs. Ah, and don`t forget fan service :)
It depends on the series. for Bleach and Naruto I rather read manga, anime has too many fillers, sometimes there are 2-3 episodehas nothing but endless conversations.
As others have said, for many stories the manga is actually a lot more interesting - shonen stories like Naruto and Death Note being case in point. Story pacing and shot composition is often better in manga, and it doesn't deteriorate as noticeably under a low budget.

The only Manga I bough and read was Negima, and other series that I have not watch before. I usually buy Manga just cause I read it on the way to work or school and have no time to watch the Animated series. Other than that, the Anime's I watch, I never read the Manga from it.
I go back and forth on this one. I only recently started reading manga, but I've been watching anime for a LONG time. Sometimes, I feel like a certain scene was spoiled, but I have noticed the manga is usually better (and this is coming from a die-hard anime fanatic). In the end, I just try to keep saying to myself that it's only an adaptation. I guess it's just a case-by-case situation for me.

I am a manga-ha, than an anime-ha... But they both have their uniqueness... For instance, there are cases in the anime of 名探偵コナン which is not in the manga... The manga of ハガレン definitely is different (in terms of story and character development) than the anime. I recently picked up the スケブ４コマ, and I absolutely adore it. I mean, there are same material as the first few episode, but it was still enjoying to read it. In essence, I believe that holding an actual book is much different experience from watching the anime. Therefore, I don't feel as though they are spoiling each other...
i don't think it will spoil the fun. cuz there are differences in anime version and the manga version. i do both cuz i want to know the differences on both version. too bad in indonesia. u have to wait for a lone time (usually 1-3 years) for manga to be licensed...
Yeah reading manga often ruins the anime for me since I'll know what happens and when there are fillers I cringe. Thus I only read the One Piece manga now, no more anime for that series. Also I find myself picking at the parts in the anime that were not originally in the manga and parts that they omitted. T__T"
Somewhat yes, unless you've read the manga first, and watched the anime later. Minamike, I only watch it when I'm terribly bored, although its actually worth watching and entertaining, love em' sisters.
I think it depends on what came first. If it's something from novel->manga->anime, you could lose a lot going from novel (see: Zero no Tsukaima). One reason I didn't touch the either ZnT anime after a few episodes... I think manga would spoil anime if it is more fleshed out, because then the anime would just feel like a rehash of significant events with sometimes insignificant/irrelevant padding between; whereas if only the anime for the series was watched it might be perfectly enjoyable by itself.
Well I'm very slowly making my way through the Death Note manga, hopefully I'll be done by the time the series comes out in the UK all lovely, dubbed and judging by how long I'm taking a heck of a lot cheaper. I'm not sure if I chose rightly now, I hear the anime is even better, hope I haven't ruined it. I have to say the Nausicaa anime pales in comparisson to the manga which is amazeringlyfantabulous, so the manga did kind of ruin the anime by being just too darn good, wish i'd seen it first now. @ Danny I've started compiling a definitive list and how to guide on DS homebrew apps on my blog if you're interested.^^
I like reading the manga first since it's the actual storyline and anime only follows to a certain point and mostly ends with an anime original...so it's not really spoiling much IMO...plus it's fun to see how they animate certain scenes...
Nothing beats Anime Soundtracks, so even if I'd read the Manga, the Anime is still exciting!
No i dun think so! I think the anime spoils the original manga! Most of the animation i watch which was converted from manga to anime usually end up with the anime version having crappy story or not as good as the manga!
I watch the anime first because it comes out before the manga here in the US. But I do find some manga I tend to pick up first and don't mind knowing how it goes before watching the anime as I compare and contrast the two.
Sometimes there are spoilers, but the best part is when both sides starts taking original only parts. (Like in Keroro Gunso where the whole storyline, if any, takes a different turn than the manga). So like they, Anything Goes.

Depends on what manga and anime. Some of them like Kodomo no Jikan, the anime is crap compared to the manga. If you're like me and have read the manga you wouldn't feel like watching the anime. Whereas some of the anime like Naruto are actually quite good compared to the manga.
Not really, but it depends. For me I don't really feel that way except for Midori Days; manga offered more in-depth stuff than the anime. I mean, how much stuff can the producers squeeze into 13 episodes.
I think what you just did there Danny was rude because the artest who made that manga work hard & did such a great job. In some ways the manga is a bit better then the anime, though the anime is doing a great job right now. Go back an buy the manga!
as i mentioned earlier, i preferred manga more but one exception is deathnote. i actually prefer deathnote anime over the manga cos the manga is simply too wordy! >_< it took me a lot of time to read 1 book! that's why i'm glad the anime only show the important dialogues and left out the not so important ones. one more thing, since anime is shown on national tv and watched by children, it tend to be more toned down compared to manga, like nudity and violence. take for example in deathnote manga when misa first met kira at his house, we can see her pantsu while she walks up the stairs. we didn't see this in the anime! >_
I try not to get too far ahead of a series via manga if I'm really into it. And vice versa. My manga vs anime is really dependant on the show. For example, I probably would NEVER have read the Ouran manga had I not seen the series and saw just how the characters were. what i do is read up to where the anime is up to. An episode comes out, watch it, then read the manga up to where the episode finished. This is only for series that you would like to watch twice in a row. Anime was finished? Check out reviews and see if there are comments like "this is so bad compared to the manga". Anime is going to be released in the future? Can you wait a year or two? If it's going to be good, I would wait. If it's unknown, I would read all the manga because manga and anime are generally similar.
Ok, I'm going to have to throw in my two cents here. First off, I do believe that reading a manga spoils the anime. I am of course, a much bigger anime fan than I am of manga. However, I personally feel it's much harder to make bad manga than bad anime. I mean, if you feel something is dragging out too long in a manga, you can just read faster. If you want to absorb the story at a certain point, you can stop and think about it, let your imagination go. Plus, considering the multitudes of people out their, with their various ideas of what is good. The freedom inherent in manga lets THEM decide the particulars of a given battle or love scene. They can imagine the minor details as they see fit, creating a more enjoyable environment overall. However, with anime you're more constricted with how you must view the given piece. If the director decides to spend 30 minutes letting Goku charge up, you're forced to watch for 30 minutes. I mean, sure you can fast-forward if you're not watching it on TV, but it's not quite the same as reading a manga faster. Yes, a rather long rant and I havn't even really made my point yet. Basically, I think that an anime is less enjoyable when you already know the story, because people tend to get impatient and feel like too much time is devoted to what they feel is an insignificant event. So reading manga before watching anime is a big No-no in my book. However, the converse isn't necessarily bad. After having watched the anime of a series. Going through the manga at a faster pace is very enjoyable and allows readers to catch things that might not have been in the anime series. Also, it's much easier to skip ahead in manga if you know what happens than it is to skip ahead in anime. Yea, sorry for the long rant.
Actually I'm quite used to read the manga first and then watch the anime. It does spoil some of the fun since you already know the story (ex. when I watch Minami-ke, since I already read the manga so I already know most of the story and it make me kind of boring watching it). But I don't really mind, since manga & anime has it own feel for me.
