I remember reading somewhere that like in China, 60% of it is cardboard in most cases...not sure wilted lettuce is quiet as bad as that
sorry * 60% of it's bread LOL
I think the same happened over here in the past. BTW, you eat the kids meal Danny? (I do that at times ^^;)
haha! i've spent a good portion of what should have been my free time in highschool working for "dining establishments" preparing food. lets just say that most are very liberal with the "expiration date"...or what becomes the "ingredients of the stir-fry". Gaah! none the less, i prefer my girls cooking FOR SURE!!!!!!! ^_^;
p.s. i'm a vegetarian so i prefer burger king. they have a veggie burger (which is as equally unhealthy) and mickey d's still doesn't.
I cut fast food out of my food pyramid 2 years ago. Now, I can't even walk into a McDonald's without covering up my mouth. It feels like the whole environment is full of grease. Why do people even buy salads from a burger joint? I don't trust these franchises anymore.
Never heard official stuff, but probably happens. Police recently discovered some major milk retailer to be altering milk by mixing cheap chemicals in it... compared to that tampering food labels are close to nothing. Also, I've seen several times major supermarket franchises selling stuff that were rotten and with their waranties void.
I try not to eat any fast food. The places I steer clear of are CrapDonalds, Burger Fling, and any other HUGE major fast food chains. DQ is my number 1 here in Indiana cause their food actually tastes good unlike BK or MD since they taste like cardboard.
Our fast food joints over here don't really have impressive freebies that come together with the kids meal, so I don't think anyone other that kids themselves would actually eat the kids meal.
In my country we are way past tampering with food. we have problems with medicine as well such as tampering with expiry dates and counterfeit medicine that will get you killed faster than it could save you.
I gotta say, that sucks. Now, is it really worth it to sell bad food now to get customers to think that the food will still be bad later? It may be a waste, but it looks like these guys couldn't think of the many alternatives available not waste it. Hah, that's less customers for you, McD's, and more for your rivals... at least in Japan, that is. lol.
We get mislabels here and there, but nothing really serious as they are usually mistakes.
The last time I remember hearing about food tampering in vancouver was that some unfortunate guy got some chewing gum sandwiched between his burger at a burger chain, and apparently he took some bites out of it o_o
in soviet russia, the food tampers with you
I know food tampering happens. I dont think most people have any idea of what actually goes on in the food industry. Since I grew up around it, I know what foods to avoid, and also what stories not to tell people. Lets just say stay away from Halibut. Ok? Ok. Have a nice day.
Asian Ethics, you probably read about the steamed cardboard buns, http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/07/12/health/main3049080.shtml?source=RSSattr=Health_3049080 posted it once in one of Danny's new items. with regards to expired food stuff, I heard in the local news about month ago, that some folks would buy expired powdered milk, repackage them and then sell them off to unsuspecting customers.
Ummm as far as the cardboard buns go I thought that the reporter had paid they guys to do that and it was all fabricated???
(Sorry in advance for the rude, unusual expression tonight. My dark side has suddenly resurfaced) If that CEO felt sorry for waste, he should have eaten this salad himself! What a dumba** who literally played with the term "Junk food". Being at the end of the food chain (customer) can truly suck. We generally pay high prices (what with all those taxes?), we only have the option to buy or not buy and they dare do that to us in the name of profit?! Damn them! We can't even have fresh food to begin with? (Silences dark version of self) On a related topic, I hope this won't end as empty promises (which is often the norm) http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2007-11/28/content_6283416.htm http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/opinion/2007-11/28/content_6284157.htm
See?!?! I told you D_Blade, dont eat the Halibut! I soooo called that one. Lol.
Ken, salad is more often present in burgers (Big Mac, Mac Chicken, etc.). Never saw someone ordering a pack of salad at McDo or equivalent.
Who orders salad at McDonalds? I've never heard of someone trying to get something healthy from McDonalds.
i don't think we have any reported food tampering here but i think some major fastfood joints are practicing this under the public and media eye
Tampering of food labels happens every where which is not a good thing. just have to do your best to catch it which I know isn't easy to do at all. I want look stuff like that with my meal, btw. =D
As a mainland chinese, i have to say, there are too many prejudice on this country and people here. in most your guy's eyes behind colored glasses, china is a country of monsters, no human right, everything from this country is dangerous, every chinese people here are brainwashed. however, that's far away from the truth, for example, the cardboard steam bum was finally proved a faked news, and the vegetable from china is not poison, even though it's commonly means lower price, they are just be labelled as MADE IN JAPAN BY JAPANESE to get a higher price. China is a great nation with a stupid system but this is grounded by china's unique culture and history, no one can not change it within one day or one effort, but believe me, things are getting change and the system will eventually evolved by our new generation, emotionally i really don't like you guys act like a judge, as if there is nothing good in China, as if living in your contry is just like living in the heaven.
samp+, I did see a comment or two about cardboard but I also saw some corrections. I did mention that Chinese vegetables were relabeled as domestic to get a higher price. I don't think anybody on this thread is out to attack China.
yes, and in fact i have experienced a bit while i was working in mcdonalds part time about 1.5 years ago.
One person said something about china. As Danny said, that was corrected. I think you need to calm down a little bit there chief. You seem a bit over defensive to me. Its not like anyone was bashing china, or said.... um.. anything that you just said. Lets save the glorified anger for when people start bashing the US. Lol.
Samp+, what I meant by the "norm" in my comment was how beautiful the speech and official declarations are usually made by politicians (of every country, state/province/district/city/town, etc.) but changes are lacking in the end. If you saw that against an attack against PRC, I admit this was a mistake from me to not having clarified my point. I just hope this worldwide quest for food safety and hygiene will be effectively done. I feel this should have been done long ago.
@samp+ dude.....china rocks. It has some of the richest cultural history around, plus there is so much cool stuff that comes out of china. For one the film industry is really great, I generally watch more Chinese/HK film than hollywood crap or the like. Also I've meet so many fellow students that are from all over china, as above GREAT people. All this combined makes me want to take a 6month trip over to the mainland to experience the culture for myself... *ends China rocks rant* ...But as other people have said the article isn't suggesting china is in the wrong, just McDonalds JP.
I guess i am little overreacting.sorry to provoke all this here.but believe me, I am not a Nationalist, and something you said were right, this country has a lot to do to buildup its credibility, rather than to fight with people outside. let's stop it here, and enjoy our trip of japan and anime and idols ... whatsoever.. @danny, d_blade Thanks for your understanding.
samp+, NP. And who is the cute girl on your avatar?
@danny i don't know her name too, the pic was took in Guangzhou auto exhibt 2007 in Lamborghini's stall. will let u know when i get the answer.
You're welcome. I also hope you will enjoy your stay here and participate in other posts like most of us do.
What? No IdolM@ster? Kidding. If anyone was found tampering with food labels here, they get busted real quick.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's tampering everyday here in the US, people are really skeptical about that stuff, everything needs to be frozen before it's considered safe (which ruins a lot of taste). @ Samp+ Heh funny, I was in Guangzhou for about a month visiting family, love the place. Except the traffic can get kinda crazy sometimes.
Hatori, you can pay a visit to Yide road for anime and gundam of sorts. but be cautious to shoddies. in case u don't know, guangzhou is the hub of Made in China. you can find almost goods here, no matter genuine or bogus.
this is great...if the governments of the world could handle arguments and let things go like how it's done here at dannychoo.com then the world would b a much better place...I say world peace through eroge and idols...good on ya guys :)
To Tell you the truth, I have no clue if they do temper with the food before selling it or not. I'm sure some places do, and i'm sure some places don't. I just hope that I don't get any of the food that has been messed around with. If i get bad food i go ack and tell them that they gave me "B.A.D. F.O.O.D". Now I feel sick... I had McDonalds today too!! BEH!
"this time round its PuriCure goodies for the girls" Girls and 31 year old men. In the grocery store I worked at over the summer, the manager changed the dates on the cheese. He also put out a lot of products far past expiration and hoped no one would notice.
I don't think people actually go to McDonalds to get a salad. Its wierd, I rather just get a happy meal ^_^ Maybe the poor sales of salad is the reason why they started to swap the date of production tags on the salads.
haven't has a McD for years. I always go for burger king or higher! As for sell by date tampering, apparently, it does happen in the UK but I don't know how bad or widespread it is... Hopefully it isn't too bad and is the exception rather than the norm.
McDonald's is evil I tell you. Evil.
McDonald's has salads? When'd that happen? o.O
Don't know if labels are tampered here but I believe they are... I know someone who worked at night in a yogourt company and the job was to replace old labels by new ones, also the fruit were all rotten so they bleached them out and re-coloured them and flavored them... (That was years back) Why do we get Macy Dee's in FR and no Burger King? MD makes me sick anyway
Hey what is that anime on the the box with the pink-haired girl?
Yes food tampering is at a high in the United States. The USDA (united states department of agriculture) does not do their job mostly because of corrupt members and a lack of funding. I have heard stories of people finding machine bolts in hamburger meat sold at supermarkets. I only buy food that is made in this country and I avoid processed foods such as processed hamburger meat. It is a huge problem that the government fails to address: ignoring the Ecoli outbreaks is NOT taking care of the people. I could go on about it but I recommend reading "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser to get the full scope of it. I have always trusted goods from Japan due to their high quality albeit sometimes a hefty pricetag. Our local Wallgreens imports Japanese so I am happy ^^. In short: do not buy from fast food chains such as McDonalds. The food is tainted with schtuffs and is designed to make YOU fat. I dropped the stuff and for over a year I have eaten 2 meals at a fast food restauraunt: both times requiring food at breakfast time (McDonalds breakfasts are not as harmful). Do not eat from them and stick to the stuff that comes from this Earth. Don't believe me that the food is tainted? Read Fast Food Nation for yeself if you can get a hold of it.
The most I hear about tampering is using CO to make meat appear redder--maybe that's because I live in California where lots of large farms are. To the guy below--that's not food tampering, but negligence. It's a problem with quality control, not trying to sell old trash as new.
well, we rarely hear anything bad with food. I'm sure companies make sure to keep it away from the public to keep money flow in. I hope to think that this is not a common practice over here, but i can only hope hehhee
oh dear, I didn't realize my posted link would as fuel to a flaming ruckus. Samp+, I apologize if it was insulting. rest assured it was never in my intention to insult any country.
It's not a major issue other than general cleanliness issues tends to be. America is so litigious, you pull something like that, you can expect to get sued.
Mc Donald's sucks!!! don't eat that crap!!
I remember the McDonalds, Taco Bell and Arby's getting shut down a lot when I was a kid because they had problems with preparing food. One time there was a chicken head in some ones chicken nuggets. Another time there was an actual finger in some ones food at Burger King. A cheap store near me had a thing of fruit roll ups that expired in 1976 >.< Then my school has had questionable food in the past.
Oh dear, and I had McPork at an outlet just around the Tokyo Dome too.
I don't remember anyone here being so fanatic about salad. Like who eats salad?! eat some burgers! XD
