This has to be the worlds most expensive blog template - make your blog look like a Japanese news paper for a measly 525,000 yen - 4,441 USD! Its not even April the first.

The template is for a blogging software called Movable Type. It seems to be popular in Japan and blog owners over here are paying through the teeth for plugins that enable them to do simple things. Movable Type is a Six Apart product and so is this newspaper template - pricing details at Six Apart and a sample site here.
Correct me if I'm wrong but a template like this can be whipped up with a single CSS file within a day. You can probably buy a template like this for wordpress for about 10 USD. Only in Japan (must be!)

Hummm... that looks like a total waste of money.... you could probably hire someone for less than that too.

I could make a blog like that in my sleep. All it takes is a quick textbook in design and you got it done.

I could probably make that if I studied up on customizing blog templates more. Someone will probably release it later for free.

I wouldn't even want to spend any money for a blog layout. I would rather use an existing template and customise it. This template is probably for people who have too much money to throw away.

I'd pay if it has some super hypnotising widget inside that keeps people coming back like they are on some drugs =P

Other than that, even though I have no idea how to make such a layout, I'd rather head down to the library and learn how than to pay such a sum of money.

would people really pay for that, it's pratically a rip-off in my opinion. You whip one up on your own without much of a problem

unless they provide 100gb of hard disk and unlimited bandwidth with unlimited lifetime usage, i would say that price is too high!! even with the things i mentioned above, it's stilllll tooo high..anyway, is movable type blogging software good?

Instead of making me blog like a newspaper, why not Make It A Newspaper!
Then the price is right!

No I think you could do the same here and people would buy. So many people never bother to learn anything so they are incapable of doing or knowing when they are being taken.

This excessive pricing has always been around computers and anything related to the technology. Once in Best Buy my fiancee was handed a promotional flyer for "Geek Squad". This is a computer repair franchise the company acquired a few years ago. The prices for what they where doing was ridiculous to say the least. For instance, charging a customer say $60 USD for "security threats" I believe they called it. All they did was check for viruses and such.

As long as people refuse to learn, we will continue to see crap.

I don't think any premade blog template is worth more then 15-20 US dollars. Now something made to my specs and excluse I would pay more maybe $100 or so.

@TinyRedMan
I used Moveable Type a few years back on my first blog and it was pretty good. When I restarted my blog last year I switched to Wordpress after 4 failed trys to to get Moveable Type to install. The problem with Moveable Type now a days is that do to the way it is programed it is hard to install if you don't have shell access to the server you are hosted on. (Which is most low end hosting packages) Wordpress only take about 10-15 minutes to get up and running and it is pretty hard to mess up the install.

I expect that you could get a company to pay for it, maybe even a newspaper looking to ramp up it's online presence. But I don't see to many individual bloggers dropping the cash for it. Besides, I'm sure that someone could/would/will duplicate it for free or a lot lower for Wordpress

@__@" thats alot of a template.. but then again, it reduces the need to know codings and give writers more time to wrtie rather than think about codes.

probably companies without tech support would use such product..

I thought most blogs in Japan use livedoor? I Guess Movable type is easier to use since the owner needs not do those server setups.

But why pay those kinds of prices when u can do it all on blogger, wordpress or even wordpress.com?

There needs to be more wordpress spreading over there I think. I thought Movable type was dead after the first wordpress v1 came out sometime ago?

Like blauereiter I should heve become a blog template designer.

WoW...is this for real? Is that price just for the template alone? or would that include the entire blogging software? Nonetheless, it's still overpricing. You could do all that with wordpress alone.

Y525,000 for a movable type blog is too way much @@

i'd rather code a CSS or just make a newspaper type layout and code from there @@

I don't think that I'll ever pay that much yen or usd for a template for my blog. I'm sure there will be a free version of it downloaded onto the internet sooner or later. Besides you can get someone to design the same or one similar to it for way less. you just gotta look
