I like building gundams but not to your extent lol, just build what I get out of the package due to the lack of time I have to do stuff like priming and painting over. Great to hear that your business is busy, make sure you maintain your health though.
Yay, glad to see you build a new model Danny.
I bought my mask for $25 USD. I don't get any whiff of smell at all. But 25 bucks could buy alot of other stuff...I'm still not sure if it was a right decision. Oh well. I wonder what colors you're going with. I saw a particularly nice scheme using gray, blue, and yellow in a magazine.
So far, i got the HG special zero. I been wanting MG for quite some time. Lets see how well yours turn out. Maybe it will make my get one myself if it turns out good. Do your best danny
Can't wait to see the finished product considering how much you put into your Gunpla. I was thinking about getting the wing, but I think I need a break especially after the pg strike. X)
i like to build Gunpla right out from the box but i would love to learn how to paint one just like the ones that i've saw at Gundam Caravans here in the Phils ^^
saber's hands are oh-so-useful indeed... good luck with mirai inc mr danny!
u do it when they're still on the sprues eh? hmmm, i cut mine out, sand the sprue nubs down as well as i can, prop em up on those bamboo fishball sticks, then spray em... your way works too but i'm wondering wht do you do with the sprue cut/nubs marks? care to share? i guess it's a case of "different modeller, different styles" =)
Half a year? Oh Otaku business is keeping you from part of your Otaku life. XD Anywayz, hope Mirai Inc. becomes better within the year... cause maybe I might want to join. o.o Also, Danny, I was thinking of customizing my own Gundam model (a mix between SF and Wing 0 Custome) and was wondering why can I get one of those help sites. Hope someone can help me with that. Thanks in the future. :D Keep up the good business Danny, I expect your Mirai anime to be at least one of the top ten anime of all time. ;P
Been a while since you built any gunpla, what colors do have in mind? A spraybooth is not really worth it, a cardboard box & a extraction fan can do the same job. Unless you plan to use industry grade spray paint. ^^;

ahhh. I just got my Zaku Warrior HG kit today!
I just got my Tallgeese III in and I am currently working on it. I do not prime my models, the reason being that Tamiya paints already have a sort of primer in them, that or the paint sticks to plastic really well. If you are going with an airbrush and paints such as testors, etc I would highly recommend priming the model (if you have every color you want and need). The primer helps to adhere the paint better, and most of the time look better. I have the time to prime, but again I would rather paint then seal with a laquer finish.
The recent MG i build was Strike Freedom and Strike Noir. I do not paint my gundams unless it is really really necessary and i just draw the lines. I still got a 1/100 Providence to build. The box has been patiently collecting dust in my apartment ;) Hopefully when i graduate, i could paint the 1/100 Astray Red Frame's Great Katana. But will i have the time i wonder *shrugs*
Looking good so far. Wing Gundam will look good when finished. Ah, Gundam is a time consuming Hobby. I still have a HG Gundam Astray (Blue) to paint but paints are too expensive(tbh i spend all my money on manga, anime and videogames) so i built it,but took it apart because it looked crap unpainted -_- On the topic of Gundam Kits, wonder how good the 00 kits will be.
Very cool pictures, because I just don't have the gusto to buy all those equipment and turn my room into an isolated paint zone. I wish I can prime them too, but I used to handpaint them instead of spraying. It's crap, I know, because it's nowhere near as good as spraying them on.
lol..i got meself a very small size destiny gundam today..and frankly speaking, some parts are not colored nicely. so, i might consider spraying over them...
I might someday try to build such a hobby kit, but I'm not too fond of spraying paint ;p But I think it would be fun though :)

Hmmm... Looks like the cookies didn't carry over to the new site. Anyway, just to say I like that picture of Saber holding that Gundam piece. Cute. Looks like a girl holding out her beloved stuffed toys to show you ^^
Nice, I have yet to paint and spray mine.
I've never really been into building your own gundam models. It's either I don't have the time, I don't have patience for doing such or I make something up to not be able to make one. hahahah! Talk about being lazy. I do like the finished gundams though. *sigh* If I only had enough motivation. heheh

I always prime my model. Being resins, instead of gundam plastic, I mostly use primer to cover up minor pin holes and error detection. After sanding, I nv bother for a 2nd coat unless necessary. Second, I dont use hobby paint but 2K with industrial thinner, enough to eat into the gundam plastic and hold. For cleaning resins, i just soak the whole kit into industrial thinner something that cant be done with gundam plastic. Therefore, as can see resins kit give more leeway in the way painting is done. Modeling is a expensive hobby. Just base equipments alone cost me around nearly to 1K. Compressor and airbrushes take up the bulk of it.
i'm having a problem... i don't know what to use to get those gundam colors thin.. i tried humbrol enamel thinner and it ruined one bottle of gundam color... does anyone know what thinner to use? :|

heh, I bought a Strike freedom Full burst kit in January and I still haven't built it yet! Then there's the F91 kit, my Getsumento heiki mina figure, My KoG, gah... too many kits!!!! I tend to leave my gundam kits without painting as I like the "anime" look of solid colours with few decals. But I need to do something about those gold joints on S-F
i like seeing these model 'in progress' posts. please keep us updated!
Mr.Surfacer? What does that actually do? I always wondered ._. Can't wait to see Danny finish his Wing Gundam :D
Hope the model turns out fine Saber Holding the Gundam Model looks err... kawaii cute

@SG Mr Surfacer is a type of undercoat. It's basically a type of paint you put over any surface before painting to allow the coloured paints to stick to the surface. You can also use it to hide some small imperfections and highlight some small details before painting. Undercoat is important because if you put the main paints on without it, then the paint easily scratches off, doesn't stick to the surface properly so it's hard to get an even coat and causes all sorts of problems... in short, primer/undercoat = good if you want to paint!
MosKAU, Gundam colors are acrylic, I'm sure. The best way to thin color, is to mix it in a seperate cup. That way you won't ruin the whole batch. Use an acrylic thinner (Mr. Thinner), though. I don't believe enamel thinner works with acrylic paints, or the other way around.
I really like that first photo. You saber gets used to hold alot of thigns doesn't she? Hmm, well atleats if a leg on your table breaks, she can hold that up? Its nice to see some you doing a bit of gundam modelling again, i know you ahve been very busy, but its nice to see your finding a little time to try and do some ^^

I forgot to say, I love your photography skills!
Painting a model requires a lot of time. Like many of you have pointed out, it is imperative to apply a base coat. The reasons are that it helps the initial paint coats adhere, and it helps contrasting colours from clashing with one another (i.e. repainting a blue piece white). Also some of you have noticed that Tamiya's canned spray paints have a base coat to them. That is very true and there also seems to be a chemical compound in them that prevents the paint from scratching off as well. Also thinner from certain brands will not work very well with other paints coming from somewhere else. If you have Tamiya Acrylic paint in those small glass containers and try to thin it with the Mr. Hobby acrylic thinner, you'll get some vile diluted colour. On the other-hand, if you try to clean off a part that has tamiya paint on them with Mr. Hobby's thinner it will end up taking off only 95% of the paint, leaving an unsightly streak-mark on the model. Also cross-usage between the variations of thinners do not work. Enamel thinners cannot take off acrylic paint, and the converse is also true. This allows many modelers to use an enamel wash to fill in the panel lines instead of using a stylus-like device. Moreover, if you are planning on moving your model around, its better to use enamel paints since they adhere and dry much better/faster than acrylics. However, the only drawback to that approach are the poisonous fumes that could overwhelm and potentially harm you. I've learned a great deal from Danny's original post regarding Gundam building, from those in HobbyFanatics, and Fichtenfoo's website. Check them out if you want to learn more =0. www.fichtenfoo.com www.hobbyfanatics.com
Yes, I always prime before I paint. It's the only way to control color and finish. I thought about buying a spray booth as well. When I was in high school I had build one from matting board and used a fan for exhaust. I think I will do the same in the future. I use a filtered mask Danny. It will feel odd at first but you will be thankful in the long run. Right now my problem is making time to build. Also, I don't have suitable area to build and paint. Biggest problem is since I moved back to Michigan I can find supplies. Does anyone have suggestions where I can mail order "Mr." or Tamiya supplies?? Looking forward to future post on your progress...
I'm glad to hear Mirai Inc. is keeping you so busy. ^^; It's good to hear the company is going forward so well at this early stage. Best of luck Danny! Always hoping and praying business will remain strong for you.
You can try www.rainbowten.com for paint. They even have the Finisher's brand (which was known throughout the Gunpla community for it's Cobalt Blue). The company resides in Japan, but from what I've heard, their service is stellar.
Edward, Demacrez, Thanks ^^ Kyoji, Try accessing via dannychoo.com. Subaruhess, Same colors as Strike Rogue (kind of) without the pink. Demacrez, Not sure what you mean ^^;

great. nice to see you building more gundam models again, missed your old post with pg strike gundams and stuff ^^. Btw, all my models are prime even thou painting with the original color over it i still prime it:D. Take more pictures as you go, thankkzz bye.
got to ask something what MR.surfacer should i get for priming?
@NickC, Thank you, I will have to take a closer look at their site. Took me a few minutes to find them, did know it was a shop in Japan. They are no longer using a commercial domain but a Japanese domain.

The primer depends on what you want to do and what effect you want. I personally use white primer as it makes the colours look brighter and it's easier to work with. Darker primers are better for highlighting small details and are good if the kit itself is rather dark, but the other colours also come off as dark and you need more layers to coat over them.

well I normaly spray work out back but most of that is just warhammer stuff..... so what would be the best thing to use on gundams...... yeh yeh I tryed the markers that I can get at Gundam Mad.... but I just made a mess of it.... any ideas!
glad to see you at least started your Wing Zero! I still need to give mine a matt vanish finish after culminating 2 years worth of dust being in the same position lol
is it okay to spray paint my gundams with war hammer paint or should i use something else?
I have this model ^_^ Took me 5 hours to build, without spray painting or putting detail on it, seeing as I had to go fishing right after lol. But the rubber wing tips are the most annoying thing about the model. Lets say you're posing wing zero on your telly, and (trust me, this will happen) the wings will either keep falling off, flopping down due to weight or the tips fall behind the telly as you're doing the pose >_< Although it's well detailed, highly sought after it too problematic unless you know how to avoid these problems ^_^ And if you was wondering, yes mine is like dead now... the V head crown thing is like broken, and the head snapped in two as the I was trying to pose the shoulder cannons lol...

why would u paint your wing gundam all in white?????????????
right now I'm working on my Mobile Ginn.. I don't i'm gonna finish it for another year 0_0. Um, I'm looking forward to seeing what your wing will look like when its finished ^^.
Hey, i have this kit, and i have a problem with it and wondered if anyone could help me. When i put the head on the body, the bits on the side of the head stop the vulcan cannons from opening! I have made sure it is built correctly and everything, can anyone think of anything im doing wrong? Please reply! Thanks
