iPod Photo and Camera Connector

A list of just some of the best events in my life:- Meeting my wife, learning Japanese, discovering Gundam, discovering Mac & OSX, buying an iPod photo.

As I mentioned in an earlier post - I sync my home directory from my home machine to my iPod and from my iPod to my work machine and vice versa - meaning that I don't have to carry a bag on the packed Tokyo trains. But not only is the iPod good for listening to cool tunes and syncing your data - with the Camera Connector connected, it can also read and store photos and movie clips from your picture taking devices! The only gripe I have about iPod (and apple stuff in general) is that they are quite expensive - buy hey, life is short - enjoy it while you can.
iPod Photo and Camera Connector - an experiment
Above: Canon connected to iPod via a USB2.0 cable - reads and stores photos with no problem.

Above: This is what I was most curious about the most - will the iPod read and store MP4 movies taken on my Xacti? I suddenly felt myself above the clouds with the angels singing hallelujah when the iPod finished storing my movies - it even offered to delete movies from the Xacti after it finished. The thing is at the moment, the iPod photo OS cant playback the movies - only photos - but you will see an icon representing the movie - just enable your iPod for disk use and drag your movie file from your iPod after attaching to your computer.

Above:I went on to try some other bits and pieces that I had lying around - Did not recognize my USB thumb drive - tried it formatted as MS-DOS, Mac etc but no dice.

Above: Attaching the Motorola V3 to the iPod does not do anything either.
iPod Photo and Camera Connector - an experiment
Above: Not sure what I expected but this setup with the iPod Mini attached leaves the iPod Photo with "unsupported device" on its display.
iPod Photo and Camera Connector - an experiment
Above: the Charging LED on the GBA flickers on and off after doing this - but that's all - I thought that the iPod might charge the GBA.
iPod Photo and Camera Connector - an experiment
Above:Same goes for the AU - the charge LED just flashes on and off.
iPod Photo and Camera Connector - an experiment
Above: This setup did not produce any results either - Could be because I stuck the iPod connector into the SD card reader socket.
iPod Photo and Camera Connector - an experiment
Above: Hmmm. This was disappointing - I expected Strike to get up and run around - iPod attached to Strike through cockpit.
iPod Photo and Camera Connector - an experiment
Above: This time I opened Strikes maintenance panel and attached the iPod Photo - Expected to download schema diagnostic data but all I got was a "no card inserted".
iPod Photo and Camera Connector - an experiment
Above: At last - something that worked. The iPod Photo comes with a neat charger where the socket is USB - meaning that I can charge my GBA and phones when I am on the road. This also means that I don't have to carry a computer around with me anymore when I go off for a short trip - I used to have to have the computer to offload photos and movies to and also to charge my USB devices - now the iPod photo can do all this for me - thank you Steve Jobs!
