Got loadsa Gundam galore to share with you but wanted to get this to those who don't already know - the 100th Master Grade is Turn A Gundam...
I think Bandai chose Turn A Gundam as a joke as they know the Gunpla community will cause up a stir.
Personally am not a fan of Gundams with mustaches.

The rest of my coverage will start soon but you can catch more coverage being collected right now by Gundam King Gunota.

Coverage is being brought to you by dannychoo.com and Akihabara News.

At first I thought the Turn A looked kind of funky but as time passed on, it just looked cooler to me. Also reading up about this in other places and people are saying the one on the left is just a modded version, not the official version.

Nice :) I alway liked Turn A(anime and mecha) and now i will have it as a MG. I like it even more because it isn't another RX-78-2(as a 100MG). Unfortunately both models aren't 100MG, they are made by normal modelers, this on the left was in the June Hobby Japan.

It's about time Bandai deviated from the norm a bit with Turn A. I'm stoked personally! If the MG Turn A turns out anything like the mods displayed (or anything better than what exists commercially), I'll be satisfied!

I don't know how I feel about this announcement.

It's an interesting choice but I personally would have preferred a MG V2 Assualt Buster gundam.
I'm more worried about how the thing will look and pose. As others have pointed out, the ones in the pic are not of a MG kit and my main gripe about turn A was that, in the anime, it always looked rather flimsy compared to other MS. Almost like paper.

I've never liked the Turn-A Gundam's design. Although this announcement is a bit surprising, it's not really exciting at all to me. The only cool "moustache" mech to me is Soulgain from SRW. I pray Syd Mead never does Gundam designs...ever again. Well at least the mystery is revealed and we can move on to guessing what #101 will be. My MG wishlist for the rest of 07-08 are, in no particular order: Infinite Justice, Legend, Victory 2 Assault Buster, X Divider, Heavyarms vers. Ka, Deathscythe vers. Ka, Tallgeese III, Vigna Ghina, Astray Red Frame, and/or Divine Testament. LOL the likelihood of any of those being made is slim to none.

OMG, OMG, OMG! It felt like such a faroff possibility but they did pick Turn A after all! Personally, it's a nice deviation. It's a special number so the mobile suit has to be unique. The one on the left appears to have been redesigned by Katoki. If you look at his sketch of the Turn A in MAHQ.net, it matches the upcoming MG look which is quite nice. The one on the right is the original non-grade 1/100 which appears to be based on the design by Syd Mead. CyberSynaptic is right. Syd Mead shouldn't design Gundams...evarrrr. I don't know why they never tapped the chap who made the Astray designs. But darn, I can't wait. When will this baby be released?

1/100 scale models (be it Gundam or other kinds of similar-sized mechas) are a tad too space-consuming for me. I much prefer 1/144 scale.

Bandai seems to have redesigned Turn A drastically to be more Gundam-like, especially the mustache and the face. According to Turn A's mechanical setting, it'll be taller (around 2 or 3cm more) than other MGs. But I'm more interested in knowing just how good it is in terms of action and special features. Hope that it'll be as good as Zaku II Ver. 2.0, or better.

So, any news on who actually won the MG 100 Countdown competition? I can't wait to see the special coated version of this MG

A real disappointment. If bandai want to celebrate the 100th MG, it should come out with a cool and wicked gundam. If its a 101th mg or so on, i dont really care that much. I was really hoping for a MSN-04II Nightingale to make its debut. It's big and grand. hehehe.. well, lets just wait for the 101th to come out... :)

No. This one's official. The sketches behind the model kits are proof enough. I highly doubt they'd create this much of an uproar and then just change it all of a sudden. That would piss off people as well as lead to a lot of confusion.

I do notice that there are some Syd Mead fans who don't like the possibility of the Seira Masuo mod being the basis for MG 100's design.

I'm actually content that its Turn A since that means that Bandai has finally gotten it's rear end to engineer something new rather than reintroduce older suits (OYW Gouf, Dom etc.). There also appears to be a lot of detail on the Turn A's torso so its not as bland as some of the other models we've encountered.

If they do use the kit above as the basis of the MG turn A, that kinda defeats the whole point of the turn A design!
I would want one closer to the tv design. the one in the pic just doesn't look right for turn A

I think the basis for the MG 100 would be the sketch in between the mod and the 1/100 non-grade model kit. The one on the right is a mod of the non-grade 1/100 Turn A by Seira Masuo. It's a mod featured in June's Hobby Japan. You should easily find that pic in my blog. The basis for the design will be the sketches behind the picture.

I was really hoping the 100th would be the Guntank. After 100 MG kits and you don't do the 3rd part of Operation V? It's like making Star Wars figures and never doing Chewbacca. I realize that it would be quite large and doing the tracks would be a decision on complexity vs cost, but we've seen insane kits before. Like the HGUC Dendrobium, the MG EX-S, the Glorious series, the Perfect Grades. I've built all of those and yet a MG Guntank still eludes my collection.

I read once that Tomino hated the Guntank almost as much as the G-Armour. Is this the reason we've not seen either in MG form? For Heaven's sake we've got a MG Perfect Gundam and Perfect Zeong! How the hell did those get made before the Guntank?

Upgrades to kits are fine, anyone that built the old Mk.II and Zeta MGs can attest to the need of new ones. The Zaku II is still the most loved so an upgrade was a no-brainer. But the "Turd A"? It's one of the most despised Gundams of all time.

My only hope is if the Turd A got made, we'll see a MG Kapool.

Wow, this is a schocker (in a good way). I kind of forgot that there was a Turn A Gundam, but I am one for the choice. The design of the Turn A is basically the same as the RX-78, the difference being that one is from the distant future and the other was the distant past.

Danny, you have to look past the mustache. Think of them as heavy sideburns. haha.

I cant believe that they are going with the Turn A Gundam for the 100th Master Grade!! The Turn A is so ugly and the design has been done to death... its too plain. I wish they would have gone with the Infinite Justice, Aegis or the Stargazer Gundam... Now Stargazer would have been bad ass and it would have gone with the Strike Noir that was recently released. How cool would that have been to pose the two fighting. Well at any-rate, im greatly disappointed.

Danny,
I have been doing Gundam kits since 1994 so just imagine how many kits & figures I have bought and built as well as cherished....I don't know how to say this but...Bandai gives us NO GRADE versions of MS that we want to be introduced as MG's, and now the most sought after affair of the next 100th MG is the most ridiculous looking design of a man who doesn't know crap about the soul of an MS. WHAT WERE YOU BANDAI GUYS THINKING!!! Do you guys even listen to what your clients all over the world wants? Well I got to let it out somehow...Well then I hope bandai will be issuing a new PG kit (hopefully a new RX-78 OYW style with lots of lines and a new frame design and gimmicks or a gold plated Shiki with a similar Strike PG frame). well to all of us let's hope for the best and pray that they(Bandai) get a new creative marketing manager and advisor soon.

P.S: To Harumasa Suzuki of Bandai CS,tnx for the support you always give to loyal Gundam clients. may you relay to your sacho how sad some, not all of the Gundam community are, so pls gidder done ya'all.

I don't know. Perhaps Turn A's going to be redone by BEECRAFT since it appears that the general consensus is that Syd Mead failed completely the moment he put the cockpit in the "crotch" and put the v-fin right in the chin. If BEECRAFT will redo it, perhaps it would look a tad better. I really didn't like the moustache but the Turn A storyline was a nice change and Moonlight Butterfly was awesome.

I think we simply need to look at the different angles as to why Bandai picked Turn A as MG 100. First, it HAD to be a Gundam. So grunts and zeke units pretty much fell out of the list. Since everybody's looking forward to MG 100, Bandai would most likely pick something that would bring revenue to the franchise that isn't earning as much: Turn A. The announcement alone has brought curiosity to those who are moderately interested in Gundams and other fans to reconsider the series itself.

It s in argueably the most silly series out of the lot.

there are nothing significance in the gundam & weapon design except for the mushtache.

It is so-so, only because I don't have a strong opinion about it (I've never seen Turn-A-Gundam, but I have seen a few of the suits from that series). I would like it a lot more if it had less indentations on it, it looks interesting but I would actually pass over this model in favor of more sharp ones in terms of quality AND shape =).

What a great way to have Turn A Gundam to be MG 100. I know alot of gundam modellers won't like this kit mostly because

a) The mecha itself look weird or suck
b) The v-fin
c) A show that isn't a typical gundam show that we love or know
d) The designer who design the mecha

and the list goes on and on....
But really, think about it. What is a best way to celeberate the MG 100 by making a model that isn't produce before. Turn A Gundam, is a kit which didn't have any justice when the show came out in Japan. Most people just gag when they see the gundam for the first time like it was the ugly gundam in the entire gundam saga. Also, most of them don't like the show because of the pacing. To tell the turth, Turn A Gundam, in my opinion, is one of the best show and should be with the top guys like Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Victory Gundam, and so on. The reason for this is the storyline, character developnment, and a show which is almost like a drama type show that don't follow the pace of the typical gundam show (mecha fighting, characters talking trash against the enemies, female characters who have breast transplant a little bit more than it needed, characters which make you think, wtf are they on the series, plot that is written by someone who don't know how to write a decent plot, and so on). Also, why don't we celeberate the MG 100 by making a gundam model to celeberate the creator of Gundam of his final TV Gundam Series that he produce. It will be an honor to make a model kit for his final TV series that he produce.
For the people who want some other gundam model kit than Turn A Gundam, don't worry about it too much. Sooner or later, Bandai have to make them because of the popularity of the Seed and Seed destiny show. It's not that Bandai will stop making model kit after 100. As of now, I am betting Bandai will produce more version 2.0 kits of they earliest gundam kit they produce way back when Master Grade came out for a while. Then they have to start making kit that isn't in universal century (they isn't many popular UC mecha they can produce now that isn't made). Anyhow, I am going to get the kit for free (like every gundam kit that I have) when it come out in Japan. Thank god for some connection that I have (know someone who work in Bandai company in Japan). Anywhere, time to go back to work now.

Oh boy Turn A Gundam is #100! I can hardly contain my excitement! ^o^ To celebrate I bought the new Zaku MGs. I really enjoy the Zaku. Next to the RX-78, it's probably the most recognized mobile suit in the Gundam Universe. The Turn A Gundam... Well safe to say it's at the bottom of my list.

I never gave it much thought before, but now I agree with your conclusion Danny. Bandai picked it as #100 because they know no one will forget which Gundam is #100.

It's no secret that I like many of Sid Mead's designs, but Turn A Gundam is not one of them.

If it looks like the first pic it will be fine with alittle mod, but what's up with the feet? Couldn't they make them more "normal" looking instead of women's high heals? Oh well, here's to hoping that they will do Tallgesse III or Heavy Arms as a MG soon.

Back in 1998, the Turn A series came out to conclude all the prior Gundam series with this Turn A Gundam. Thus Turn A Gundam has the meaning of "ALL GUNDAM" as mentioned in a preview that I watched. And to have a Gundam design that bears the meaning of ALL GUNDAM, they chose Syd Mead to do the job. It's good in a way to celebrate the MG 100 kit by releasing this Turn A Gundam that bears the meaning of all Gundam, even though it's not really a nice design. It would be better to have Turn A to be the 100th Kit, why? What if they don't choose Turn A but instead of TURN X GUNDAM?!

At least it's not some overrated Gundam we usually see on TV. I like my Gundams simple: arm them with a beam rifle, shield, vulcans, and a pair of beam sabers and they're ready to kick arse faster than you can say ZAFT NO TAMENI!
