Cast on VS Cast off

"Default Cast Off" refers to figures which dont come with accessories or clothing to cover up their eyes meaning that they easily catch a cold.
Remember seeing this Default Cast Off figure of eroge star Mao Shingyoji (from Boy meets girl) at the last Wonfes. Catalog data has been recently uploaded to HobbyStock and AmiAmi ready for pre-order. While shes a cute figure, I personally wouldn't buy a Default Cast Off figure. I also think it wouldn't sell as well as a figure with normal cast off abilities. Would you fork out for a Default Cast Off figure even if she was really cute?

Actually, thinking about it a bit more, it may be a tough decision of there was a Default Cast Off version of Mirei-san...

Kinda hard choosing which option I prefer. Well I like those figures that you can unclothe yourself, gives you more imagination for pictures and if they have more than one clothe to take off the more creative shots you can make. Already naked figures makes you look kinda pervert although they're figures I don't care whether they're naked or not it's still just a figure to me, sexy or erotic doesn't matter it's still the same to my eyes. They're not real so there is no problem.

I have actually seen some really really cute default cast-off figures that makes me go "MOE~!"

Only thing's that they are usually more on the expensive side and I can't really display them out. Not until I get my own place when I'm studying overseas ^___^

I'm with Valho on this one. I want the choice of either clothes on or off.

It'd be quite tough to not look like a pervert when people come over for a visit and see ur "cast off" figurines. I'm sure everyone mothers and girlfriends wouldn't be too approving of them.

call me prude but i doubt that i would ever buy a default cast off figure. there's no suspense and anticipation- it'll be like doing your homework when the answers are given, hehe.

that would depend on the figure...but I'm guessing most figures I would prefer to have the choice whether to have it on or not.

If the figure is Default Cast Off for that purpose alone, then I'm not interested at all. If it fits in with the character's personality or the situation in which the character comes from; well then I'm willing to give it consideration.

Don't misunderstand me, I too prefer the choice of how I want my figures to be displayed. Although I have seen a few nude figures I have wanted to own. Good point, Mirei with no bra and the option to remove her jacket would work for me. Hmm, but would that still be Default Cast Off?

i agree with BeLe. It depends on the figure although i prefer the not default cast off. it gives you more choices on how you will display your figures.

Interesting question! But like others have said, depends on the figure, and for me, also how the figure represents the anime I like. Although my current collection has no "cast off" figures yet.

However, that aside, didn't you forget the "third" option? To get BOTH versions? =)

i might buy a default cast-off figure but i prefer the traditional cast-off one over the default cast-off one anytime ^^

i find the cast-off figures much cuter than the default cast-off ones ^^

xjaymanx,
Left out that third option on purpose ^^;

Edward,
If Mirei had removable accessories then that would not be Default Cast off.

Hmmm, i would personally buy a figure that gives you Cast-Off option rather than one that is already missing clothes. This may sound a bit wierd but as much as i like Eroge and Doujinshi i prefer my figures with clothes on. I think they look a lot better

I probably am in the minority (and maybe I'll even look like a troll), but my answer for the majority of cases is 'neither'. More often than not, I don't think the castoff option contributes to the figure, and ends up looking like a silly gimmick to sell figures based on underwear shots (well, technically, it is). There are cases where the castoff makes sense - Danny's Naru Narusegawa figure or Good Smile Company's Ohno Kanako (Genshiken) are examples - but in others it just seems out of place. In some cases it adds an extra assembly line that shouldn't exist (especially if the dress is supposed to be a one piece) and in others it just seems out of character. Frilly gosuloli outfits with a missing skirt just look a bit to silly to me =)

I like cast off, but 4 sum reason, I prefer Cast on .... I suppose I like the amount of detail certain manufacturers are able to achieve with non cast off figures!! cast off ones are a bit less detailed in certain cases dont U think ....

Yes. I cant seem to paint on a figurine but can do gundam since it come in little parts to paint on. Plus, it isnt much painting

I much prefer an optional cast off.
Anything which changes a figures appearance, such as the changeable hair and arm on mirei is good. Plus, when youre feeling extra-pervy, you can cast off offending garments and go 'phwoar' etc...

I would have to camp in the Optional Cast Off group as well.

Usually, where I display figures, there are folks who would probably have far too many questions and incorrect thoughts about me upon seeing them (Love that corporate world - and parental units)

I'd choose cast on... For me figures should be work of art above anything else (the more details the better), and the cast-off option can be a bit of a bad taste, such as the loli example there.

And... if you lose the optional parts, you're pretty much screwed.

cast off figurines is good. well i am an adult. but not a pervert. just hate when someone saying :

"Hey, this is for kids!"
or
"Hey, this is girl stuff! are you transvestite?"

So with cast-off figurines, i can say :

"Hey, this is not for kids!"
or
"Hey, this is not girl stuff!"
