LOL Danny, I thought the same thing about both Yakitate Japan and Nodame Cantabile, and I now love both. Nodame Cantabile is both hilarious and sweet. My first experience was the live-action drama of Nodame Cantabile, and although it was a bit short (11 episodes at 1 hour each), I enjoyed every minute of it. When they announced that there was going to be an anime, I was jumping for joy. Now I just need to start reading the manga to get the complete experience.
Found a clip from Nodame http://youtube.com/watch?v=fCZ18dunDi0
I loved the live-action of Nodame and the anime. So far, I prefer the actor from the live-action as Chiaki - he has the right tone of voice for Chiaki. But the anime is one of my current favorites. Danny, have you seen Sexy Voice and Robo? The first episode was promising
Yes, from time to time I string a guitar. I am currently looking into purchasing a pair of bagpipes and taking lessons (because I hear they are almost impossible to play). As for the anime, it really doesn't look like my cup of tea. Mecha, Mecha, Mecha!!
It looks cool. I don't play any instrument, got some friends that that play in jazz /metal bands. ___________________ Offtopic: eh! Danny Opera 9.20 doesn't show the polls at all. I can see the questions in the RSS feeds but in the site they are gone.
I love this anime, since I study music, I can relate to some of the situations and I have the chance to listen to most of the music played in the anime everyday at Uni.
I love this series as I'm a pianist myself. DO watch the Live Action as it is really good ^___^ Hilarious yet sweet.
I was thinking about watching this anime, but like you I though it looked boring. I will give it a try at least, although I'm busy watching a bunch of new anime for the spring season so I will get around to it.
I like how Stresseman is portrayed in the anime more than how he is portrayed in the live-action. He's supposed to be a lecherous european, but in the live-action he just looked like a dirty Japanese guy speaking funny Japanese. Still funny, but loses a bit of the effect. His manager Elise in the live-action, however, was pretty dang hot. Nodame's live-action actress was cute as well. Chiaki in the live-action was awesome though. That dood was like perfect for the role.
i like the opening for this anime..cool...but haven watch it yet..lol.......
kinda quickly saw the title on the rss feed and i was like that anime sound familiar, after seeing the clip and description, i realize that i'm reading the manga right now. pretty decent, i'll give the anime a try, hope they kept it true to the manga. I wish i can play the piano, one of my favorite instrument.
i havent checked out the anime yet... but i LOVE the live action drama!!! im so sad that only 3 episodes have been translated to english... im still waiting for maison ikkoku w/ misaki itou-san

Well, it is expected... from the makers of HachiKuro after all =) 'Cept this one is about music, and HachiKuro is about art...
Oooh I LOVE this series! I loved Honey and Clover (one and two) And Nodame just made me laugh so much :P I watched a little of the human drama series, and don't like it as much :x I'd say stick to the anime :P
Oooh, this looks pretty interesting, and i think my friend has watched/is watching the live action drama. It seems that alot of these new anime's use the same animation style, which is a good thing ^_^ *sigh* but this will have to go on the waiting list of anime's to watch, because my exams are in 4 weeks!!! >.
Nodame Cantabile is a really great show. I love Megumi's "gyabo" and others "mukyaa" (which inspired me for my domain name haha), and I am a huge fan of her seiyuu Ayako Kawasumi as well. And it's a real pleasure to listen to classic music through this fresh comedy . I used to be trombonist in a orchestra, that reminds me some great memories hehe.
i dont like the character design, they look to..... human, if i wanted humans i would watch days of our lives or something like that, or house, i like that show

"i dont like the character design, they look to[o]..... human" Yeah, I prefer my characters to look like, erm pedophillic space aliens... [/sarcasm] That has to be one of the strangest criticisms I have read of an anime. There are plenty of series with this level of "realism" Which is still, actually, VERY stylised. If I was going to criticise some character designs that are trying to be realistic, like for instance Moonlight Mile, it would be because it looked like someone barfed them up all over the nice CGI work. Not so with Nodame Cantible, which is still very attractive.

It took me six months of piano lessons to realise I had neither the talent, nor interest to play the piano. ...and I will probably inflict the same punishment on my kids, in attempt to live my dreams through them. (like every bad parent ^_^ muahahaha). btw I corrected the spelling in the Anime I am currently watching field, from my last post. It now reads "Seirei no Moribito" which I suppose is the correct Romanji spelling. And It should also be "Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou". Danny, we need more space there for the shows with the silly long names!
Hi! I actually watched the live drama. And I highly recommend it. It's a good stress reliever for sure. If you need a break watch! I actually heard of it before i heard about the anime after some googling. I wanted to watch the series, but I am actually surprised to see this here! (it does look odd amongst everything else imho hehehe). Not sure how good the anime is but if it's anything similar to the dorama I am not surprised that it has the power touch the hearts of people who otherwise would not normally see it! it even inspires people to go out to learn an instrument! how great is that! Music is beautiful. Cheers, Jiro

My wife has been watching the live action version of Nodame Cantabile. I'll let her know that it's also an anime... Although she may not care too much. She's watching the live action one because of some guy she thinks is cute. Ahaha! Regards,

Perhaps thats a future topic for you Danny. Live Action vs Anime. (maybe you already have, too lazy to check archive...) Is there a fansub group for J-Drama? I've seen some fansubbed live action. Death Note, NANA and some power ranger type shows.
Yeah this is an awesome series. Animation much like Honey&Clover. was hoping that h&c be mentioned in your post

I've also recently started watching this anime and I loved it because like you said, it got me laughing so much. I really love the characters..so... unique? I've also heard that the live action is good but I cant seem to find it anywhere, dang.
Danny, you must watch the live action of Nodame Cantabile. It will blow your brains out. It's really really awesome.

I perfer the Live-action. The actor that makes Nodame... is awesome. The only Live action japanese TV show I really ever wanted to watch. Do it. Watch it nowz!
I like watching this anime. Nice music, funny charaters like Stresemann making fun of Chiaki. Too bad I never had the chance to play any music instrument except the recorder back in primary/elementary school. Who knows how well I would have done if I did.
watching it right now ^^, its really funny, its sorta like honey and clover... cant wait for the next episode subbed =)
havent seen it yet, but it looks interesting. been to busy lately to watch anything >.
Hachiko, Adenread, Chun, Kureshii, Taking your recommendation and going to give Honey&Clover a whirl. FN FAL Lover, Tsubaki, Will give the live action ver a whirl too. Matt_ That could be a good VS topic in the future. Canapan, My wife loves dramas with cute guys too ^^; Jiro, Nice avatar of Sayaka you have there. Matt_ When you register you get more space. LoboBrancoTimido, I'm not doing QA at all in Opera - sorry orz. Leo, have that series stocked and will watch today!
Boris is (are) staying at my hotel next week. So excited!!
The anime is light hearted and funny, defintely high on my list. However I couln't even sit through the 1st episode of the live actio drama version. Anime characters' mannerism is just too much in real iive.

sounds interesting .... wouldnt mind checking it out ....
You should definitely watch the live action danny. I myself prefer the live action compared to the anime. Even the characters are so anime-ish :D When I first watched it, I immediately got hooked to it. One of the only live action series I've ever watched from start to finish. Mostly due to the great cast that portrayed the characters. ^^
I got into this series almost after the first episode. Well mainly, I liked this anime because there was music and instruments involved, and me being a trombone player, (back in middle school/highschool) I loved it right away.
yea i loved this show...definitely in my top 20, but i jst couldnt relate to it enough for it to be in my top 5....it was very funny tho
I enjoyed watching the anime and I absolutely love the opening song. I have yet to see the drama though.
..I have yet to watch (not see) the drama though. Sorry for this 2nd post.
I loved Nodame Cantabile! It's a genre all its own! The music really got me in the mood and I have developed a good taste for classical music now. I play the Alto Saxophone... well used to... I can still remember a bit though. I'm currently learning how to play a guitar.
I've played percussion, mostly when I was in the high school marching band. One of the few highlights of my youth.
hilarious show xD. Haven't got time to catch the live action though...Instruments? I play the bass guitar as my main, and sometimes on the guitar as well as the keyboards.
Love the Anime and Manga. I think i've watched the anime 3 times already but for some reason i really hate the live-action drama
MUGYA ! Yep, Nodame Cantabile is great ! Too short though. I hope there will be a second season (just like I hope he same about beck). Since then, I search every CD shop for a Rachmaninov piano concerto #2 played the way Chiaki did. I love the emotion of his music. Anybody knows if there is Soundtrack of this anime ? Danny, you watch the live TV show also right ? Before or after the anime ? Which one is better ? Is it the same music pieces ?
the first time I know of this series is from the Manga. From the very first volume, it already feels like a very good and solid series. The anime is the only form I haven't watch. Watched the '3D' version, which is rather cool (even my mom enjoy it), including the Nodame Special (the one in europe)
"Do you play an instrument? (not including any attached to your body)" Ahh.... lol... Does everything have to carry innuendo attached ? :)
Aw, I love these kinds of series. Gives me a (false) sense of hope about love. Watch "Whispers of The Heart" by Studio Ghibli if you haven't yet. Preferably with a close friend. Guaranteed good watching.
I started watching the anime with some friends but we never finished it. Only because we didn't want to continue without everyone there. That kinda fell through though. Maybe I should pick back up with it.
One of the best anime out there, I just love it. And, Nodame is so cute and clumsy. ^^, Everyone should see it at least once.
I love Nodame Cantabile, but I really only care for the manga. The anime and live action don't appeal to me at all, even with the benefit of hearing the music. I highly recommend the manga!
i've to admit that the live action drama is good as well as their character selection that suites really well. the only part that I didnt like is about some of chiaki's roll-up eyes features that make him look a bit retard and some of it are done at the wrong time and wrong part of the show. you guys should have noticed this because it is so obvious
Love this anime, even went to a real orchestra because of Nodame. Never imagined myself going to an orchestra before watching this.
I couldn't stand watching the anime, but I love the J-Drama, it's a lot better IMO.
Nope, and I regret it. If I'd play I'd be more popular with chicks or I'd have one more reliver from sadness, of being ronery
I would compare this series to Honey & Clover except the animation quality really brings this down quite a bit in my opinion. It is kind of frustrating cause you can tell it is a really interesting and refreshing series.
I'm a large fan of Nodame. You've mentioned that in every episode you had brief moments of rapid successions of laughter. Did you not have a similar experiences when watching Haruhi for each episode? C'mon, be honest mister. The anime is great. The seiyuu for Nodame (Ayako Kawasumi) and Chiaki (Tomokazu Seki ) were spot on. The drama is even better. The actress for Nodame (Ueno Juri) and the actor for Chiaki (Tamaki Hiroshi) were absolutely brilliant with a 'capital T.' The music was superb as in the anime. However the manga reigns supreme for being the best out of the three. Hehe. I can understand the difficulty in acquiring a new tankoban when it is released. The popularity is still strong as is the current developments in the manga.
I'm glad you came around Danny, I love Nodame Cantabile (and I have all the manga xD). Other than the manga I prefer the anime over the drama because I am not a big anime-based-drama fan unless it's actually dramatic...I find the humor better suited to animation.
Thanks for recommending Danny, it's definitely one of my top ten anime now! Am watching LIVE action as well and loving every minute of it! As a music lover, this show has rekindled my interest in classical music! It helps that it's funny from start to finish! Bravo to Tomoko Ninomiya!
