I've considered getting a tablet. Used to do graphics for fun. However, take the price and compare it with the impact it would have on my life and I quickly lost that idea. Now I'm just drawing in a sketch book. If I ever get back to doing graphics, I might get a tablet. For now, I'm going to stick with spending my money on figures and kits.
I have a graphire4 only use it to rest my wrist from time to time and to edit some little things..I love tablets.
I bought a Wacom Graphire a while back to use instead of my mouse in order to help relieve the carpal tunnel pain I was having then (which I since fixed with proper exercise!). In truth, I'd wanted one for a long time. It did help my wrists for a time, but I never got used to it as a mouse replacement or as an interface to sketch directly onto the computer. It sad unused for months, but just recently I've been using it a LOT for touchups, adjustments, and redraws in Photoshop, especially when I'm editing manga to prep it for translation. It's gone from an occasional handy novelty to an indespinsable tool of the trade. Now I'm wondering if I should have gotten one with buttons. Hopefully my Photoshop work will be the practice I need to become comfortable with sketching directly on the computer, and skipping the paper stage. I want one of their touch screens in a bad way, but I just don't NEED one yet, so I won't be purchasing that piece of technology bliss. Did you find that you had a hard time adjusting to it?
Wacom's are very very nice tablets, got to use a big 12x12 while I was going to school. Just wish I could justify the cost of one for the little messing around that I do with graphics. I have tried one of the small 4x5 tablets and they are just too cramped for me. Wacom also is now making wide tablets 6x11 and 12x19 for those folks with wide screen monitors.
I have an intuos3 4x5... it costed me 700 USD in Brazil, that's the cheapest I could find. Things are pretty expensive here.
wish i had one but i neva draw stuff much and i suck so ya.

Wacom tablet is the best thing you can do for your wrist. Everyone ought to be using it. Once you get use to it, there is no going back, no matter what you use it for. Question: What is the correct pronunciation of the word Wacom? All my life I thought it was "WA-Com" and folks here likes to call it "Wai-com".
I've got a cheap Genius 8x6 tablet about a year ago. I barely use it, the biggest problems are that it seems that I cannot draw a circle if I'm not looking at my hand :P, and that the sketching (sp?) tools on the art software needs far too much presure to work. OTOH, photo retouching with the tablet is really nice and much much easier than with a mouse. Oh, and mine came with one of those useless mouses too, only that mine need s a battery to work. Putting aside that I wanted a tablet since ever, I buy it for using it with Truespace, but the built-in tablet support is crap. I started with 3d modelling on the C64 and the Amiga, just for fun, but just recently I started earn money with this.
Mac: Anime I am currently watching 未来のみらい, as announced 4月1日!! lmao!

For a long time I used the lower-end model, they call it the Graphire in the States, at the smallest size of 5"x4". I felt the need to upgrade to a more modern model and decided to get the same model you chose, and my god the differences are astounding! I must admit that I've not been able to use it much of late with classes kicking me in the rear, but I hope to do a bit more development on things over the summer. Oh, I didn't notice if it was answered or not already, but its 'wah-ko-mu' (ワコム). ^^
i have Wacom's low-end pen tablet products called Graphire and i've been using it ever since ^^ i would love to have an Intuos pen tablet but i don't have the money to buy one ^^;;; i guess Graphire will do ^^
I would LOVE a WACOM...especially for what I do, but problem is that they are DOG expensive in this country (South Africa) I am borrowing my friends Genius one, but after working on a Wacom...it just doesnt compare
First things first: I can finally log in here through Firefox, which I downloaded a few weeks back and decided to try the log in business and it worked! I am back! :P Second: I have a Wacom tablet, but the pen broke accidentally, and now I need to buy a new pen, and they're not exactly that cheap! -_-; Anyway, good to be back! ^_^ Check out my site now - it's an art/figure blog. ^^

Danny you really are a polymath. I am mostly mouse bound, but the office i used to work in some of the guys swore by their tablets. I used them for a couple of days but found myself cursing quite a lot :S I am still thinking of getting one though, just got to get passed the learning curve >_
Oooh, thats a very nice tablet indeed. I got one a few years back, its a Wacom but i have had it soo long i forgot which one >_< But its dark blue, the pen it pressure sensitive with a rubber on the other end :P
Wacom is the best prosumer product: I use this Wireless Pen Tablet by Wacom http://www.wacom-europe.com/int/products/wireless/index.asp?lang=it&pdx=40

I got one of them it came with the Manga art center.... I did a few scetches on it but it turned out crap.... its been ages since I did any drawing and I don't get time to do that these days... I hope to see more art work from ya
Hi Mr Danny, this is a wonderful site! i use a graphic tablet (monitor type) for work. its quite damaging on the eyes though. In the end, drawing on paper gives the best feel of all...
Call me old school, but I have never gotten used to tablets. The stuff we do at work is graphic intensive and relies heavily on modern technology. However when it comes to drawings, I still prefer paper and pencil. It feels less restricted during the initial design process. However, I have to admit that tablet is great for presentation and production phases. Kudos to everyone who has mastered the skill!
I used to draw a lot, so I got myself an Intuos3 9x12. I stopped drawing for almost a year, but I'm getting back into it again. Wacom makes a great product. One of my dreams is to have enough extra cash to blow on a Cintiq monitor, so that I can draw directly on the screen.

arr been thinking of getting one... but as a student life .... wahahaa.... so feedback to us againz... I want to try it out but then no one has one for me to play around.

Wow 24000Yen is cheap, I have Wacom Graphire4 A5 and I paid for it about 33000Yen (800PLZ) about year ago, and Intuos is better than Graphire. Now in my cuntry(and generally in Europe) you need to pay about 59000Yen(official price on Wacom Europe website 357€) for Intuos3 A5. I need to move to Japan :P And I'm curious how much is for Wacom Cintiqu in Japan?
I have always wanted to get a tablet as well. I think that it would be great to have that kind of control in photoshop.
Nice tablet. I was thinking about getting one similar a while back but backed out at the last minute. Mainly as i wanted to focus on just getting my drawing skills better before forking out the cash. Focusing on 3D design at the moment however.

I got a Intous 3 9x12 tablet and i must say it is awesome for photo retouching, drawing etc. Takes awhile getting used to it at the start but once your used to it you dont want to design without it. Grats on your purchase.
Haha, Welcome to the Wacom Tablet club Danny, its awsome no? I've got.. a much larger one.. Intuos3 A4 !! Way to big. Planning for a A5 size. ^^; Then I can start drawing properly onto Photoshop and hang it up in DeviantArt lol (You don't wanna know how it feels to have a Gigantor on you and a small table... But hey?! its good for drawing something in detail.. wait.. even the A5 can..doh!)
Wow, I could use something like this when I draw, but I am currently a starving artist who can't afford one. O well, great for you though, I can't wait to see more pictures of Mirai and her show.
Mario, Cintiq costs about 3000 USD! http://www.amazon.co.jp/WACOM-Cintiq-21UX-DTZ-2100A-G0/dp/B0007NXTM6 Tragic Comedy, Thanks and welcome ^^ Matt_, Polymath? Reflection, Hope you are liking FF. Astroblue, 700 USD is a lot! Mac, Took me a few hours but got used to it after that. Love it.

The pen with the wheel Danny is the Airbrush. For me, i use my mouse in tandem with my tablet (im left handed with my pen). So you could always put your mouse on your offhand just to use the scroll wheel. If, like me you have a mouse fashioned for hand shape, use the mouse that came with the tablet - its ambidextrously shaped. Kudos on getting a Wacom too ;)

i'm currently using a genius tablet..but it requires a battery to operate...i had experiences with wacom before, and its quite cool...u get to haf 2 brushed in 1 pen...but still, a wacom is still too much for me...gonna get cheaper tablets..

It looks great. Well, I've already got a wacom intuos2 9X12, but your cutting-edge one make me exclaim wow. I want to upgrade!^^; Cintiq? Yes! I like it except its price.
Ah. You seen the Cintiq as well. I tried one of those during an IT fair here and those are absoutely awesome! (Just that they are very expensive :( You can get a DSLR and some nice lens with it's price tag)
Danny, When I get good with the Wacom Tablet, I'll draw you a Mirai Fanart lol. And, Danny, You should draw something too haha.
I use the mouse for a paperweight ^^;

Cool gadget Danny .... I studied animation/multimedia in Australia .... Im pretty good .... but Im a bit rusty since I started working with ADSL and my PC fried and I decided to not get a new one just yet!! IF I get a new one, Il definitly give the Pen Tab a try .... =P
Hi Danny, I use a cintiq 21UX at work. If I could afford one, I'd have one at home too, lol. I used to use the old style tablets like the one you have. It took a year to truely master, but I also had the advantage of working with automotive designers. Now that I've been using the cintiq for a year, I've almost lost my old tablet skills. I'm new here, and I noticed your Mirai project. Please visit my blog (http://scags1.blogspot.com) where you can see my current character work all done on the cintiq.
hi, danny. actually, in my art college, most animation major students prefer to use Wacom. I actually want to buy one too, because its reliable and recommended to me.
omg I didn't know you do a spot of shoe design! So envious (LOL) but that's definitely tedious work :)

doh! i paid 200 bucks for a dinky 4X6 i think you have the 6X8 or even bigger. I think I got ripped off. The thing is i checked about 3 stores and best buy had it for 30 bux cheaper then the other two (apple store and circuit city) so i thought i was saving money. I found a cool sketching program called sketch book pro. It simplifies the drawing proccess on the computer. Check out alias.com you can get a free 15 (non-consuctive)day trial.
265LY, Haha, I work for Alias, aka Autodesk. I worked on version one of sketchbook pro, lol. Sorry for tooting my horn, but I couldn't help it. haha

To test out Wacom I purchased the 3rd generation Grapphire tablet a couple years ago. The only decision I had to regret was not to purchase an Intuos instead. You've made a great investment. I look forward to your future products and the upcoming animation for your mascot. The previous storyboards that was posted earlier looked great. Thanks for the updates.

I've been considering getting an intuos, but the cost was pretty daunting for someone with very limited income. Good job having money. Apparently photoshop realism drawing is either absolute crap or really time-consuming without a tablet. One thing I'm wondering about is the size -- where does quality/size and pricing meet?

Hey Dan. I was searching for wacoms and fell upon your website... And right away after seeing that character on the top left, i was shocked as i remember seeing her not to long ago.. And then it clicked. Oh yes! your deviantart page. :) Ok but now i have a question and ive been looking for days and days for purchasing a wacom tablet at its cheapiest. As im sick and tired of using a mouse. I want to learn how to draw nice smooth lines in PS and have fun while doing it. Because ive tried several times with a mouse. And let me tell you ITS HORRIBLE! But i know its not new to you. Anyways so here i am looking for the best price i could look for on an intuos3 9x12. The best price so far i have found is at http://www.futurepowerpc.com/scripts/product.asp?PRDCODE=ACWA-PTZ930AC&REFID=SC&tab=2 for only 377$ But i know that these things cost only like 10$ to make in reality... So im digging up on how i can find it the cheapest... Maybe if i look into the actual contry where wacom is being built, maybe i can get it for a real decent inexpensive price? So right now im looking at foreign country sites looking for the best price. So please Dan, if you can find me a foreign site(japan, china etc etc..) wich they sell a Intuos3 9x12 under 377$ I would be very thankful, and if you want i can give you great sites to save up on your next gadget! Thank you very much. sincerly yours Jesse
Nice one! You made a great choice danny! Exactly the same one as mine although mine cost me a rediculous price of £200 from Amazon.uk!!! Havnt had much time to use mine yet, but will be doing alot of illustrations and graphic work with it soon!
I would like a tablet but for 24,000 yen??! I'm broke and this will only be a distant dream for me...
I have a 4x6 Graphire 2 tablet for postworking my Poser images and i love it! If you think using your mouse sucks on yours? Try it on mine, it bites the big one.(i still use it though)
I own the same Wacom A5 pen tablet. Never used the mouse (I prefer the Apple bluetooth Mighty mouse). Use Photoshop mainly for photo artwork, Apperture for the pics i took with my Digicam, Image Ready for web graphics and Illustrator for the sketches. One of my dreams (i have so many dreams) is to design shoes. You're very lucky to experience that. Am very satisfied by this Pen Tablet, I hope you enjoy it, too.
