April sees the start of a ton of most coolsome anime titles which I have started to enjoy. Today we are going to take a peek at Idolmaster Xenoglossia.
I've always been an Idolmaster fan and am just waiting for Bandai to jump ship and do other platforms too. I guess the 360 will completely die in Japan if Bandai makes the jump ^^;

The first episode tells me this is another" girl-from-countryside-goes-to-city-to-become-a-pilot / starts-off-clumsy-and-ends-up-ultra-mecha-pilot" type series just like Top wo Nerae Gunbuster and Soukou no Strain (I'm sure there are others). Is that a bad thing then? Absolutely not when the main character is as cute as Haruka Amami (pictured above).

Haruka goes for what appears to be an audition to become an Idol. She passes and we watch Haruka encounter other characters as she travels to Tokyo. At the end we see Haruka making a first encounter with some huge mecha which looks like it was summoned by her presence.
Those who are familiar with the game will recocnize the other characters like Chihaya, Yukiho and the others. Chihaya is one of my favorites (I have a T-shirt of her ^^;) but it looks like she plays a baddie. The first episode ends with Haruka getting in her new mecha - I want to see more!
Thats all I should say about the plot but if you enjoy (very) cute anime characters, coolsome mecha, great animation then judging from the story so far, this season of Xenoglossia should be on your watch list - check out the stills below. Just hope it doesn't have a bad ending like Top wo Nerae.
BTW, If the site is looking like poo - refresh your browser cache as I made a ton o changes to the site last night. I dont know why browsers cant detect changes to CSS files.

Where is Miki? T_T she did not make it into the anime it seems after checking the official site. But hey what can be better than not seeing girls in mecha? Too bad the game for x360 wish it will come to PS3. Will keep a lookout for this anime

You didn't like the end to Top Wo Nerae? I guess it takes a special person to appreciate Gainax endings...

I was underwhelmed with this. But it's Sunrise, so it can't suck totally. It's just that all Sunrise shows grab me at episode 1. This didn't :(

But the girls are cute, yes.

Ahh, there ain't nothing like a little gratuitous property destruction by a cute girl in a giant mech.

Thanks Danny! I thought this was about a singing career or something related to the Idol stuff. So glad for Dannychoo.com!

I just watched it today and now I can't wait for more! For me, first episode of Xenoglossia is kind of reminiscent of Evangelion (btw one of my favorite), not- too-distant-post-apocalyptic world, mechas, central control room, and not one, but two (!!) Misato look-a-likes.

360 wont die if Idolmaster jumps, they still have the TECMOs stuffs such as DOA and Ninja Gaiden. Basically thats the only thing that most xbox owners from Japan that cares abt, other than demons and zombies fps games.

When MS launched the 360, they made a fatal mistake by not launching it together with DOA4, its kinda stupid when no one queued for the 360 but alot of crowd gathered when the DOA4 was released.

i so wanted to play IdolM@ster on the 360 and i hope that Bandai-Namco will have an english ver of it ^^

i've watched the RAW of Xenoglossia and i'm now waiting for someone to sub it but so far the main character is MO~E! ^^

The Sunrise Equation:

Moe females + mecha = kewl anime

What's wrong with the ending of Gunbuster? It is one of the best endings ever. Unless your talking about that LSD induced nonsense that Gainax dared to call a sequel, but then again I haven't bothered to watch that. It seems the staff at Gainax haven't been taking their meds lately. I went off them in a big way after watching, This Ugly and Beautiful World. Bleh.

No offense, Danny, but could someone else tell me if this is worth watching? (Afterall, you like Gundam Wing :P ) Is this just more substanceless moé like Bakaretsu Tenshi. Or is it as Rufus Shinra claims (rather dubiously, which I might add, because I highly doubt it is anywhere near as good as, in fact I am absolutly certain that it isn't) as good as Evangelion?

Although it has an above average story, it has superb design on both characters and mecha.

I'll give this a try.

Skimmed through. Not enough to make a call on yet, so I'll hold out for a few more eps before deciding.

Top wo Nerae, well, I dunno. I liked it, but I watched it unsubbed and thus, am prolly missing out content. But I liked both. Could never get into Eva or Gundam for that matter though...

Love the new header, and the first episode of Idolmaster wasn't that impressive though. But I was having such a fun time guessing the seiyuus. Love the voice cast.

@Matt

You're right, I never said it was anywhere as good as Evangelion...
just that it shared some common elements. In fact, this is because Evangelion is the masterpiece for mecha anime and many others try to base their plot from it and sometimes fail miserably (notably Rahxephon) This is nowhere near the dark themes and seriousness of Evangelion and you probably won't like it if you enjoy that kind of stuff (from the list of anime you're watching, i presume you do).

I commend the producers for making it not a quick cashgrab-tie-in though, it has some nice production values. And really, no one can judge the series by watching just the first ep.

Yeah, I played the 360 game. Miki isn't in Xenoglossia presumably because she was a 360-exclusive character, but she might show up as a cameo. Come to think of it, the twins haven't shown up yet either...

And THEY'RE BEING MEAN TO CHIHAYA-CHAN. Meanies. If Chihaya turns out to be Xenoglossia's version of Char (complete with at least a minimum of badassery), though, all will be forgiven.

More seriously, Xenoglossia reminds me waaaay too much of Sakura Taisen/Sakura Wars. Let's go over the checklist:

- Klutzy country bumpkin girl comes to Tokyo and ends up as a mech pilot: check
- The high and mighty ojousan turns out to be the comic relief: check
- Major scene in Ueno Park: check
- Predominantly female cast of mecha pilots who moonlight as entertainers: check
- Mecha launched via the Tokyo subway system (complete with protective shutters to protect commuters and partially conceal the machine): check

Still, I like Sakura Taisen a lot, so this is tentatively on my watch list.
