Ive actually seen very little of the Ultraman series/ films, but I think he is an icon just as much as Godzilla is, but has more 'cheese' appeal! Dont think I could ever take him seriously, but he's uber cool in a 'so bad, its good' way! Nice pics - ill have to hunt those statues down and pose with them. There is one outside an arcade somewhere in Asakusa too. Cmon Danny - sod Star Wars - get an Ultraman costume next!!
Ive always thought that he was pretty cool drawn up anime style. Ive seen some of the old movies where hes fighting godzilla n stuff & they were pretty cool. way better then godawful crap like power rangers i mean for f**ks sake cant they kill it off already? its totally crap. all the martial arts n stuff in it are so overated & acted out by annoying teenagers who have the abllity to morph into peices of poo. jesus christ in a kfc you'd think the newer generations would have itleast got something right by now but no! bring in some jackie chan or jet lee!!! or mr miyagi from karate kid! anything is better then power rangers. so ultra man gets 2 thumbs up for me. f**king classic character also pretty iconic like sonic the hedgechog was to sega :) good stuff
If u have never ever watch Ultraman when young, it will be rather difficult for you to get into it when you are an adult. Ultraman is basically the same as Godzilla and Sentai kinda of stuff, they are meant for kids, and for those adults who have watched the older ver when they were kids.
no, sorry I never actually seen it. I do remember playing a PS1 game though. It was a while ago and i thought everything was pretty bad in it LOL is it like Power Rangers? LOL nice change from gray boxes to blue. I still think green was much better lol
ah ha ha ha. i remember watching that back in elementary school long long time ago. i remember enjoying it greatly, but its probably because i was actually within the intended age group. ^_^
ultraman?!!! i would have prefered a giant pikachu and cubone^^
i use to like ultraman like ultraman tiga but now de ultraman's are soo fake dey have all dees werid powers
Ultraman is like Power Rangers to me.
How can u sleep at night saying untraman is like power rangers?!?! ultra man has class!!!
To V1lt R: You are somehow right and wrong at the same time. Ultraman is one of the major characters (if not the one) that have influenced the Sentai genre (including "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers"). He is a legend, he is one of the pioneers of the genre, but most of all he represents the true, original wild imaginative spirit that only Japanese people can give us (not that lame Power Rangers show, which is simply a more or less failed adaptation aimed to the American young public). Including fighting against weird, ugly, stupid aliens with wacky superpowers. If I had the chance to watch his adventures when I was a kid, I think I would have been a fan. Maybe. (At least I had Choudenshi Bioman and Space Sheriff Gavan back then). Dang, I just feel nostalgic about my Golden Age right now, thanks to you Danny... (lol)
By the way, To Huk and Hayden, I totally agree with both of you. There is this little touch of magic which disappears when you grow up... I think this is called innocence. I don't believe you can get hooked up in that kind of things when you are an adult unless you have some suspension of disbelief or simply don't bother much with details (like those genuine martial arts moves that change a lot of things... But nothing is worse than bad acting, I admit). This is all I could say. I will disappear for now, then. *Poof* Nice 2.0 version, while I am at it.
I think they made an american version of ultraman many many years ago. It involved teenaged kids in high school fighting monsters in computer worlds. Forgot what it was called exactly. Although, I do agree that all the awkward movements is enough to fry half my brain.
I actually prefer magmaman over ultraman. hahahah!

Hmm, can't remembered where I heard it from but then Ultraman is sort of originated from Thailand.... Hahaa
I prefer kamen rider to ultraman. I always found it interesting that japanese companies designed these sueprheroes with transforming kits so that later on they can sell it to kids
Ultraman is kinda cool, so is kamen rider. I've never seen any Ultraman movie, and the series doesn't do justice to him, bad acting isn't good and it ruins the show.
I perfer Kamen Rider personally.

I'm not sure what they call it in Japan, but when I was a pup I was really into the original Power Rangers. Watching it again with my son, I ask myself what I was thinking!
ウルトラマンがだいすき! The Ultraman in the top picture is Ultraman Max, and the one in the middle is Ultraman Mebius. Together with (not shown in the photos) Ultraman Nexus, they're the best Heisei Ultraman series that returned the franchise to its M-78 roots. Ultraman is one of the biggest thing that happened when I was a kid, and is still one of the most iconic tokusatsu hero till now. I am a big Ultraman fan. Its one of those shows that truly inspired a sense of wonder when you're growing up in the 70s I suppose Ultraman is something that you like or you don't - seldom anything in between. For movies, you might wanna check out the ULTRAMAN the Movie from 2004 - that's from the N-Project series, which is like an Elseworlds tale. Last year's Ultraman Mebius and the Ultra brothers movie is one of the best Ultraman movie ever made-but i guess it appeals more to fans. I love Ultraman because its more 燃え than 萌 :) SCHWATCH!!!!
I grew up with ultraman. without him, i would never have finish lunch, dinner or clear my toys, or take a bath. and i always fancy wearing those ultrasuits and pressing anything i can grab in mid air pretending i am transforming into him.......
Ultraman is ok. I Much prefer Super Sentai...(even though they are quite different). Ultraman came to America for a short peroid, but din't do very well at all...
Zer0, Thanks - will check it out. Hindsight, The Sentai series that will be. Alafista, Love the avatar! What is it from? D_Blade, Thanks - nearly finished. Andy, Will be in Asakusa soon - maybe I should hunt it down.
in reference to Ken's question, I think you are refering to SUperHuman Samurai SyberSquad, which was taken from the japanese series Denkou Choujin Gridman, which was produced by the people that make Ultraman
Oh my avartar, she's Ana Coppola from Ichigo Mashimaro

You gotta begin at the beginning - check out the original Ultraman 1966 show. The story formula is as rigid as structural steel, but it's all about the creativity that goes into coming up with the monster du jour. Google image search on "crazygon" (without the quotes) and then let me know how long it takes you to get your jaw off the floor (or stop laughing).

man ultraman is like a japenese version of power rangers

@Kenny, Power rangers are already Japanese version of mixed "Sentai".

@Danny Sorry for double post @N3w_Typ3 Well, Thailand? Well I heard Eiji Tsuburaya designed the face (mask) of Ultraman based on Buddha's statue face in Thailand.
Kamen Rider >>>> Super Sentai >>>> Nearly everything else >>>>>>> Ultraman. I've watched a little of Max (which I think that particular Ultraman is from) and I didn't find the acting *too* bad. At least, not any worse than your average show. I think most people think "Ok, this is a kid show" and automatically expect it to suck, so it does to them.
I think I've seen those statues in a Hard Gay episode before.. LOL? As for Ultraman, I don't think he's anything like Power rangers or Super Sentai. He's unique and.. well, different? I can't say I'm a fan, though..
