Akiba Report

Mon 2007/02/05 02:39
The video recordings of my TV appearance last Friday are up and I've just added them to the otakurl section.
  • Part 1 - The first half is me.
  • Part 2 - The second half is me.
Folks who dont speak Japanese should get their booty along to DarkMirage's cool site where he has a full translation of my bits - thank you DM!
BTW, I dont know why the producer kept calling me "god" @.@

The photos I took from the plasma are lousy compared to the pics that Roy took on his huge full HD TV - check out his photos.

We took much more footage and didnt get to cram it all in so you may get to see the rest some other time ^^
OK, the producer is having a laugh here as he plasters on the screen "Otaku overseas call him a god."
Huh?!
I would only consider myself a god if I find a Death Note lying around ^^;
Had to make sure we fitted in a word about Azamiyuko Sensei.
If your link is in the right column then your site was on Japanese TV again (kind of) as my page scrolled up.
The last time your site was on TV was back in October.
This was a short Akiba report covering a few of my fave shops. First off is Kotobukiya - figure heaven.
Babbling on about Mikuru-chan.
I mentioned previously that the sponge fell out of the helmet and was worried that the neck area looked odd but it didnt look that bad.
Babbling on about Fix Figuration.
Talking about Shunya Yamashita-sans Mirei. Me want that figure now.
As always, I make sure I stop for folks who want to take pictures. Always check to see that there are no police before I whip out the blaster though ^^;
Part 2 starts like this.
Met two girls in Asobit and forced them to take us with them to a maid cafe that they were going to ^^;
On the way to the maid cafe.
Being a typical maid cafe, they do the traditional "X" sign with their arms and tell us "NOOOOO!"
Babbling on about Code Geass in Lammtarra.
In Asobit looking at the Gundam goodies. BTW, a GFF review coming soon.
And thats it for now - until the next time. More TV shenanigans later this year ^o^/
First time here?
If you are new here, you may want to keep up with more of the same via RSS or Danny's other networks. (dont show again)

Heh heh. I liked it. I don't know where the producer got where we call you god. But I laughed when I found that out.

Actually Danny, we secretly call you god when you're not looking so mabye the producer found that secret page we set up where we constantly call you god. It's true. :P

Nice videos (I could recognize Houki Boshi, song from Younha -Bleach-).

At first, viewers could believe that you were putting your hand in front of the helmet because you would be thinking at that moment...

Your parts were rather short (especially for part 2), but it's nice you put the whole stuff. I learned a few things along the way. Screen-interaction features are really neat!

Maybe he called you a god, because "Otaku Lord" was not enough?
But still, I believe you got a strong fanbase now... Or would you deny that fact?

Keep going Danny.

Also having trouble sleeping lately so here I am. ^^;

From their expressions, I bet the girls where wondering what you looked like. ^^;

Hmm he called you God. I want to be a better Otaku type. I never thought I would say that. You are a corrupting influence Danny. Thank you.

Looking forward to more TV type shenanigans. ^o^ Enjoy your Sunday afternoon.

Good to see your getting more airtime.

Am coming to japan in April and was wondering if anyone on here could recommend a good store for figures/models in Tokyo & Osaka.

You were in Lammtarra looking at ANIME? I highly dbout that! Once the cameras were off, you were prancing up and down the 'idol' aisles screaming 'MoooeeeEEeeehhh!'
I wish you couldve captured the moment when your imperial mightiness was refused by the maids in the cafe! I love that Ultra-man/ Kamen rider esque 'X' symbol!

Congrats for being on telly again. The trooper cozzie doesnt look too bad by the way. I wouldntve noticed about the neck thing.

Really looking forward to going to Kotobukiya. If only they had a time machine service so they could get Mirei early!

Ah I watched it and it was pretty interesting ..

Wouldn't it be cool in the future if you were in Kotobukiya and the figurine you'd pick up is actually your mascot mirai ...

There's nothing wrong with babbling on about Mikuru-chan. And you don't look bad at all without the sponge in your helmet.

MonkeyKombat,

Danny's site is a guide to Tokyo, but as for Osaka, you want Minami-ku. You can use it as a hub for your travels about the city for food, entertainment and things otaku.

Nippombashi is Osaka's Akiba. That is where you will find a lot of otaku shops. Look for a copy of Otu or Otaku Map - sorry I can't remember or find one now - it show you where everything is in Nippombashi.

There are so many great shops to visit it's hard to list everything. Most of all make sure you visit "Osaka Gundam's". It's nothing but Gundam! You can miss it, the just look for massive Gundam mural on the building. I can and do - much to my fiancee's disappointment - spend hours in this shop.

"kami" doesn't literally mean "GOD" here. Japanese otaku often use "kami" to refer to someone with a lot of skill or knowledge that they respect. Even "god" is used sometimes like that in English I think. Check out the entry for kami at the online dictionary Eijiro at alc.co.jp:

"#   ~は神!

      【自動】rulez〈俗〉〔rule の三人称単数現在。崇拝対象のアーティスト名、作品名などが主語。◆〈対〉sux〕

"

So they are saying Danny RULEZ! Haha, I agree! LOL

Perhaps they said something like "Rebels have won, its time for you to go" :-)
