Folks living in Japan who like staying at home on a Friday night might be interested in having a peek on Tokyo MX TV (channel2) this Friday (Feb 2nd 10PM) to watch my Akihabara report on Blog TV. To make it just slightly more interesting, I decided to do it in armor ^^;
I agreed to do the shoot only a few days before so we didn’t really prepare or rehearse anything.
This is me trying to remember a few of my intro lines. I have a terrible short term memory ^^;

Outside the newly opened Kotobukiya shop – loads of figures inside.

We didn’t have an appointment so had to go though their central office on the 8th floor. Actually, we didn’t have appointments with any of the shops that I wanted to cover and it was interesting to see that we had to negotiate to promote their shops! I’m sure it should be the other way round where they pay us to feature them…

Inside Kotobukiya. This is me talking about the Mikuru figure I got the other day.

Talking about Mirei and Konomi – cant wait for them to arrive.

Doing the “stormtroooper-casually-walks-though-Akihabara” thing.

Outside Lammtarra – the shop that’s disguised as an Anime/film DVD shop on the outside but had tons of idol and ero DVDs on the inside ^^; Their strategy is to make it easy for buyers to walk in without feeling embarrassed as opposed to walking into a shop where the front is plastered with boobies ^^;

Bumped into two girls in Asobit who were on their way to a maid café – we insisted that we join them ^^;

Miyako from the game “ef”. Kawaii!

At the end of a tough days shooting, its time to get some grub at the nearest cafe.
Had a great day with the guys n gals from Tokyo MX TV but had a few hiccups. The sponge from inside the helmet fell out when I left the house without me knowing and ended up as neckless-trooper. I look like a right twat in some of the shots. I also wore the wrong glasses which we are a bit big for the helmet so the visibility was lousy…
Some places refused to be given free prime time TV coverage - I dont understand what is it with taking photos/video footage in Japan - urgh!
Will let you know when the show is uploaded to YouTube ^-^

Just wanted to say quickly that I'm glad I don't live in the UK anymore - because if I did and went out in armor, I would be either shot by the police or rushed and bounced by the locals ^^;
I do miss shopping at Tescos though (but thats another story...)

I think here in Paris there would people to take pictures and say hello, AND people to kick you ! ^^
But more seriously, I think (and I hope !) that there would be more people to say hello and smile looking at you.
I really would love to visit the Kotobukiya shop, and I really need to get a Mirei too ! ;)

Heheh - i fell for the Lammtarra 'trap' when i went! wall to wall porn!
Where abouts is the Kotobukiya shop? Do you reckon they would sell Mirei in there?
Nice to see you on the telly. Hiding behind that armour again though!
By the way - glasses = evil! Im surprised you dont go trooping in contacts.
Looking forward to the youtube vid.

cant wait to see the video, imagine you made a tv show in the armour in any other country, you would probably get chased out of the shops.

Well may be not kick, but certainly stare/laugh/point fingers at. I think people would be less surprised if a convention was going on though.

It's really hard to say what people would do here if one wore armor. Michigan has changed a lot since I was gone. Can't wait to leave... (^^;)

Anyway, looking forward to seeing the show! Really want to getting a look inside the new Kotobukiya shop. Hopefully in the future you will not have trouble getting these shops to cooperate. Despite all the unseen misfortunes I hope you had a great time. It's really great that you have created such good opportunities for yourself and giving us a look over your shoulder. I can't wait to do the same.

Hi Danny,

Looking forward to watchin the video, i noticed a huge blue dragon banner above (between the Canon Banner and the Yododashi screen) in the photo of you reading your script. Did you get a chance to play with the 360 game during your shoot?

I really Like the Procuction crew Sony HDV cameras rally want to get one...^^

Pictures are good, but I'm looking forward to the video. :d

Where I live, depending on the coolness of the costume, one might get ridiculed or applauded. I saw one person wear a tetris block costume made from cardboard boxes, and since he looked ok, people gathered around and were saying "Cool" and stuff like that.

Sir, one day, someday, most likely never, I will join you in walking around in armor (preferably as a clone trooper instead). It's unlikely, but I'll find a costume to commute around some time later. Great job for getting some air time. It's good to have guts, yea? Too bad I won't get to see whatever the show was, like some of us here. Keep on truckin, they say.

I feel your pain Danny. I've been shooting in Akihabara before, and it seems that nobody wants a camera pointed anywhere near them. Even the impromptu interview we did with some maids promoting cream puffs on the street required a call back to the shop for authorization...

This, in stark contrast to the Tokyo Game Show, where any time I put my Sony DCX1000 up to my face, I was literally SHOVED to the front of the crowd for better angles...

if you wear something out of the ordinary (or out of the norm), it's either they'll take some pictures of you and say hello or look at you with a confused face and think that you're one very weird person XDDD

Hey Danny, the 30 mins you told me about, is that just how long you will be on there for? Or is that the whole program length? I may or may not be at home tomorrow night therefore I have set my Mac on auto record for you. Preferably, tell me the whole duration for the program (I can cut out the other bits later if you want). Btw, this is just a normal TV channel right? No BS, Sky or anything. I don't watch TV all that often therefore I don't have cable and all that stuff ^_^;

That's great! Can't wait to watch the video! And if I put on a stormtrooper armor and go to the streets here, it will probably happen a little of both, people will take pictures and then some other people will rob me and take the armor away from me.

One certain stormtrooper is getting more and more famous recently...

As the others said, it will be great to see your new adventures via Internet!

I wonder why people from other countries can't accept members of the Empire (or others) having freedom to roam in the streets... (just kidding)

(I feel that if you buy a costume, it is not to wear it once or twice and leave it getting dust the rest of the year...)

And... A good trooper always leaves house after a triple equipment checkup ^-^

Why on earth do you miss shopping at Tesco?, I hate the place and the way it operates. I've been working in one for far longer than I ever wished and want out so badly.

Still I'm very interested to hear your story, anything really bad happen to you in a Tesco store or do you actually like them?
