The wallpaper tool is ready! Originally didnt have plans to make one but you asked for it so here it is ^^. Thanks for the feedback on how the tool should behave.
The tool lives here and is linked to from the navbar in the header. When you visit the page, you will see the following...
Click on the image of your choice and then proceed to enter a width for your wallpaper. The tool detects your screen size and if you click on the "click here to make this size" link, the width and height fields will be automatically populated. When both width and height are designated, the top/bottom of the image is cropped. If you leave the width blank then the image keeps its aspect ratio to the width of your choice.

I didnt fancy making different wallpaper sizes so came up with the idea of this tool that allows you to help yourself - I wanted to cater for all including mac users with wide screen displays. The only people I cant cater for is for those who have monitor sizes of over 3000px wide (rich folks^^;)

As you can make wallpaper of any size, you can also make images for your iPod, mobile phone, PDA or whatever tickles your fancy.

I'm lousy at making wallpaper images and threw together some of the new mascot. If you have any requests, rummage through the Galleries and give me the photo ID (the image name) and a brief description of what the image is. Better still, post the path to the image. Will upload if I can find the original ^^;

Works fine on my local development server but not sure how memory allocation behaves on the live server with multiple accesses - let me know if you find a bug or have any other suggestions.
I will be constantly adding new images and removing unpopular ones.
Also, let me know if you would like the ability to upload your original images so that you dont have to make a zillion different sized wallpaper for your users.

Do what you want with the images but please observe the Creative Commons Deed.

Technical details: When I want to add new images to the wallpaper pool, I take the original image and upload it to a folder via FTP. Every time the tool is called, the script checks the wallpaper pool directory for new images. If there is a new image, it generates a thumbnail which you see in the pool.
When a user generates a wallpaper, that image is saved in a directory for others who want the same image in the same size. The wallpaper directory is flushed every once in a while.
GD library is used for image handling and the whole tool runs on PHP and some AJAX.

Very cool tool mister Choo! Works like a charm.

I opted for the colourful night time view from Tokyo tower.
I run my PC through my HDTV, so its nice to know it supports my wierd resolution of 1360 X 768 without any trouble.
As for requests? There are so many good photos, but generally, im a sucker for impressive city views.

Once this post gets shoved lower down in a few weeks, how can you access this tool? Will there be a link at the top, or in the photo gallery?
Also, how big can you make the pics before they start to interpolate and become blurry? Im just curious as to how big the source images are...

Jobs a goodun!

AndyH,
You should be covered up to 2000px (or just a bit over (or maybe more...)) ^^;
There is a link to the tool from the navigation at the top of the screen.

BTW, Just added four more images ^^

THAT is cool. I'm sure many people will be asking for the source code to that. Will we be seeing wallpaper of each version of your mascot when she's done? On that note, will the artist be doing additional images of mascot-chan (since she doesn't have a name yet I call her that), such as an image of her welcoming visitors to the site on their first visit (maybe stored in an expiring cookie, so when you have to log in again she welcomes you back)?

Very nice, seems similar to the tool used at some anime wallpaper sites that lets you have res of your choice, don't you hate that some wallpapers you want from old sites have the highest res of 1024x768px? ^^; *sigh*

Very slick way to set up a wallpaper page does your excellent photograpy justice. I've been hitting your page for about 6 months now, you've become a better source for upcoming anime and toys than many sites dedicated to that. And you always have much more interesting and in depth photos. I've already made a couple purchases off your reviews, Ignis and the coated Sazabi. Keep up the great work Danny, you just keep adding things to keep us coming back. PS your mascot looks great, I'm totally jealous. I want one for myself.
