It looks very much more like a cafe instead of macdonalds! :)
Wow, you're McDonalds looks way better than ours! Oh and that bag thing, everyone does that here too in good ol' Texas. XP And no, they don't get stolen. XP
"Come to think of it, being Hackney and all, the owner could come back to find some vomit or skiddy pants among their belongings." Thats what people of Hackney get up to? No wonder, I thought you were a bit weird... hahahahahahaahaha!
All I can say about McDonalds Japan, teriyaki burgers aren't all that great.
at least your McD is nice n quiet so people can actually sleep! my McD is filled with chavs and talking so loud under their hoods >_
"Another interesting thing about McDonalds is that when you walk in, you will often see somebodys bag just left on a seat or a table – it’s the owners way of saying “this is my seat – don’t even think about it.” They walk in, leave their bag where they want to sit and then go to order their food." on some mcdonalds (mcdo) branches we do that ^^ and mcdo in japan does look like a cafe than your usual average fastfood chain
I agree to that too. Mcdonald's in front of the university will do since some well-to-do have body guards safe enough. But sleeping? Even if it's in a higher-end place, I only find that in Starbucks for sure :P
If someone's left their bag on a seat in any restaurant/ bar here, its generally left alone. You tend to find that generally, people further North in the UK have much better manners that those further South (Excepting chavs of course!). No offence Danny!!
At our Micky D's, you leave your stuff alone and it's gone.
I hate MC Donald french fries! It's a good thing that I can get real fries at the snackbar and also with Frikandel, Kipkorn or Kroket! Long live Dutch snack bars! The only good thing about MC D's are their burgers. God I love the MC Chicken, fish burger, Big Mac, Big Tasty!

Are people in Japan getting fatter as a result of McDonalds?
wtf! how come the McD over there got such comfy seats
Where I live (FL, USA), if you left your belongings on the tables like that, people would just leave them alone. I've seen a few people do it before. However, I haven't seen anyone sleep in McDonalds before, nor study....
Over here in Singapore, most of the McDonald's have like very hard and uncomfortable plastic seats which aren't really that conducive for sleeping.
i've slept at a starbucks once, but it was only for like 2 hours, and it was on a college campus so its not so rare to see someone napping before class, wait what time was it when they were sleeping??
Here in Canada you could probably leave stuff at a table. Depends on where you are. In smaller towns you totally do it, larger places like Montreal or Toronto, maybe not. I've never seen anyone sleeping, although you could probably find people on the floor in abdominal pain from the gut rot that Rotten Ronnies gives you. Is the food that bad over in Japan too?

I agree, starbucks is a much more popular and much better place to do all those things in the UK.. comfier seats, less noisy, cleaner loos, doesnt smell of macdonalds

You can leave your bags 'n stuff at your place in Germany, and did it in Japan, too. Never had any problems… However, in eastern Europe, I wouldn't dare.
never leave your bag or valuables on a table in mcdonalds, people would just steal it ahah. i dont usually go fast food resturants at all... when i do i usually go with friends, one stay at the table and the others would go order food =]
They really look tired~ I tend not to lose time when eating in a fast-food restaurant. People would not let you sleep if it was crowded anyway. Starbucks, on the other hand, are designed for people to enjoy some free time, and it's a way better approach to business. Even if I'm not a fan of McDo (I prefer BK and some others) and rarely eat fast-food anyway, they still make excellent Deli sandwiches here. So I would go there once in a blue moon...
I tend not to eat in McDonalds...I swear every time I do, I get sick. But I can understand the studying thing, I mean...you have a little free time to eat, why not get some studying in? :P The sleeping...thats a different story. What do you do if your trying to study, and the guy next to you wont stop snoring!? oO
i see the reason for people sleeping in macdonalds Japan:comfy chairs! You'll seldom find that in North America (except in a McCafe)
Its not just Hackney, but everywhere in the UK, you should worry about crap in your bag
y'know, I still can't grasp the concept of sleeping at McDonalds. Especially someone actually wanting to rest their head on the table...or anywhere in McDonalds really. I don't know if it's the same over there in Japan, but here in Seattle, McDonalds has the same amount of Germs as a...thing with alot of Germs
At my college we usualy leave our bags with books and even our laptops at the bar tables while we go get our lunch, but leaving my stuff in a table or a chair in McDonnald's that I would never do
Ahh... Hearing about the whole honourable japanese way of respecting each others possesions makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. To know you dont always have to keep an eye on your bag and pockets.... nice! Hope this McDonalds 'Mega Mac' thing doesnt last long though. The fit, slim Japanese folk will shortly be joining the US and UK in the lardy stakes!
Sleeping in Mickey D's? no f**king way! here in london u'd either have your crap stolen or you would be sprayed with lighter fluid then set alight.....or if they were that spiteful they'd take a dump in your bag, run away & peep out from some place watching & waiting for you to put your hand in your bag.....ewwwwwww.... not that i would do such a thing of course.....Id rather stick a lit ciggarette between your fingers & watch while it slowly burns its way dow to your fingers....muhahahaha....

If U fall asleep in McD's over here, Ur "ORGANS" mite get stolen!! hehehe, jus kiddin ..... but U would definitly get robbed ..... maybe even raped!! I make a point of trying to "NOT" fall asleep in public .......
It's always so pleasant that everything old is new again in Japan. I always stay out of Mickey Ds here, get sick every time I eat in one. My fiancee enjoys eating there though. Hmm... I've never asked her what she thinks of マクド here in the U.S. Anyway, I wouldn't dare sleep in a Mickey Ds here in the states or leave anything unattended on a table. Heck, you probably would be robbed and then killed because you didn't have enough money. Maybe it's included in the Japanese genome. That ability to sleep anywhere comfortably, and wake up at the right time. ^^;

You know, the last time I ever ate at McDonald's was when I was like 14 or so yrs old. Now, from my work place, I usually eat at McDonald's for the $1 deal. I noticed recently that many hobos bombard the place. There's hobos just coming in and sitting down. One hobo just sat there and slept. I don't think Japan has it as bad as N.Y McDonald's. Their at least clean, and not hobos. I ain't eating in McDonald's again.
i order instead of eating in
I wish I could fall asleep at work like that!
I'd love to make a crash pad with my local Micky D's. Cheap, free, and convenient all at the same time. Oh well, we can't have everything they say. Interesting trivia to tell some Japan-bound friends, though. Thanks, DC.
There is no way to sleep in McDo in France. As for UK, the worst thing would happen to you and your belonging. One custom here, is that when you need to go to toilets in a town where there are no public toilets, you go to McDo. It is so usual that in Paris there is a code to enter toilets. This code is given on your purchase receipt.... BTW, When I was in Taipei, I noticed that this toilet custom was the same with taiwanese !
It's the same thing here in the Philippines. I find a lot of people sleeping in McDo. Also same with the bag thing. You don't have to worry about your belongings being stolen or something (although just to be on the safe side its best to just bring it with you).
Some one was shot and killed at the McDonald's down the street. It was a "drive by shooting".

In my home, people use a packet of tissue paper to mark their seats! bags are common too though.
hmm sleeping in Mcdonalds will most likely get you woken up and ushered out by the staff in Sydney. Although i guess studying there would be alright unless you become extremely noisy.
to sleep in a McDO = to be "gently escorted" out.. to mark your seat = "do you really want to get rid of your stuff????" Don't even think about it....however it may just work once..depending on your luck!! As the matter of going to the gents...usually you go after your meal, when you're leaving... Now looking at those pics........mmhh sounds silly, ...but must be quite fun to take a nap there....I'll write that down on my "what-to-do-list-when-I'll-be-there-this-year". Oh and the pics posted by by Josh are great.....thanks.
In Hong Kong it is the same, you first drop your bag to keep one or more seat, and then go and buy your... no, not food, your... man I cannot find the word... yeah your XXX to eat
みんな寝すぎ(笑 電車の中では寝るけど、マックでは眠れない(^^;
No way you would leave your stuff on the table here in Brazil. They even rob you if you are holding your bag or any gagdet with all your strengh. It's just sad.
I personally after I moved from Europe to USA try to avoid McDonald. It’s so ugly here and food is bad. From 6 years living here, I been to MC only one time and never again. I have never seen people sleeping in MC yet, and I hope they won't because their soul will be stolen by the evil McDonald. I have seen people study in small not chain food places around my college and that is very common. I mean book stores now have coffee shops and everything.
In Singapore, people leave a packet of tissue paper to 'reserve' seats at food courts.

Over here in the Philippines, Mc Donalds food courts are always jam-packed. People have to wait in line before they can sit down. And no one leaves his bag in his table, unless he wants his phone gone by the time he gets back.

Ike Cycle, amen to that... Any McDonalds here is usually packed... But there are a few that aren't. XD

hahahaha...it south africa, capetown if you fall asleep in the street, theres a good chance you're gonna get robbed...with mickeys, they kick you out cause they close !
LoL...In Canada no one would like to sleep in a Mcdonald's...people will thing that we are homeless
I guess in Finland you'd be kicked out for sleeping in McDonalds (mäkkäri). Besides the meals are bad and expensive so it's a miracle anyone even wants to spend time eating there and not in one of the local Hesburgers. Bags? Mm.. I guess normally you could leave them there for a while. You should check out the kind of people sitting inside before doing that though.

Here in Germany you can put your bags or whatever on your table but it means nothing the next costumer throws them away and sits on your table and maybe when it looks expensive he steals it! And i saw homeless peoeple sleeping in the Mc's but they get thrown out when your normal costumer sometimes the cleaning personal ask's you everything ok? And i have to say i cant understand it how the MC's food in america taste like shit! I mean here in germny its awsome everyone loves it.

LOL. I left my stuff on a table just today. NO, it didn't get stole, etc... And also. I can't believe people can just sleep anywhere like that! Man. But I could just won't!
In México lot of people dislikes McDs. I love the cheap and small burguers :P I've never seen someone sleeping, but I thinks you could. The bags or backpacks are unsafe, someone could steal yours iF you're sleeping and nobody leaves their baggage alone in no one place or restaurant in MEX. McDonalds: comfortable, expensive, dirt and I like it, a lot of people dislikes and in my family the choice is Burguer King ^^

ppl sleeping in mcds is mad in london u can nave do that as u would get up and not have a fhone on u know more come to think of it anything on u!
I often notice salarymen taking power naps at Excelsior or Starbucks during lunchtime. Even more than people sleeping in restaurants, though, I've seen lots of people who crash in internet cafes. Most are among the working poor, not enough money to afford a home, but at least enough that they don't have to sleep on the street. They come to the cafes since the all-night rate is pretty cheap, they get a comfy chair, and they can grab a quick shower and cup of coffee in the morning before they head out. You can usually spot them because they come into the cafe with a really big bag or suitcase, although some of the are clean cut enough that they don't immediately stand out as being homeless. Other than that, occasionally guys come stumbling in because they're drunk or missed the last train, and the net cafe is cheaper than a hotel.
I'm glad to say that here in malaysia, people are free to just hang around or study in any mc'donald's outlet. Plus, most mc'donald's outlets are, by now, open 24hr a day. V-_- But i think, i have yet to see anyone sleeping in one.

I like the vote question: Do you find people sleeping in McDonalds where you live? And the answer is : only if they want to get stabbed or DIE...
Lol, sleeping in McD is next to impossible here.
LOL, sleeping in McD's in Brazil... you'd probably wake up naked and about to be raped or something. :P Also, leaving bags anywhere alone here is just stupid... you'd most probably get robbed (like in Hackney). People also don't study on McD's here... mainly because it's kinda rare to see people studying out in the open... or anywhere else for that matter. But McD's are usually noisy places with tons of uneducated kids with moronic obese parents... which is just sad.
