Heres the last of the Comike coverage.
Attend events at Tokyo Big Site regularly but this was my first Comike. I was surprised to see queues of people in really odd places and realized that they were part of the queue to get in and that the flow of people wrapped around Big Site several (?) times.

This is a picture of a person screaming his lungs out shouting "For your safety, please do not walk on the escalator" which I thought was fine because the escalator was packed. Then he went on to say "If you walk then the escalator may break" at which point I was thinking "oh just go home you prat."

The best part was when I was lead to the press area where there were no queues but staff waiting to attend to the crowds. I got on to an escalator and started to walk. Two men started to scream "dont walk!" I just stood there laughing because I was the only one on the escalator. Following rules is fine but you will find that some people go too far enforcing them.

I love these signs - Dont stop, Dont sit and dont take pictures. I wanted to sort out some stuff in my bag but couldn't stop! I thought "sod this" and went to a corner to put my bag down. A guy ran up to me saying "it is forbidden to stop here! Move along!"
He then took some of my stuff and placed them within an area surrounded by a blue line. "You can stop here."

Just like the Tokyo Game Show and Tokyo Anime Fair, I thought that these bags were given out for free - makes sense because the carrie becomes a walking advertisement. But alas no - you have to buy something that usially costs more than ||5000|.

Zplus, I saw I sign like that once, girls are allowed to take a dump but guys aren't. I'd post a link here, however unfortunately the sign is in a foreign language. :p

Are there any "Don't masturb*te here" signs as well? :)

I guess the "No stopping" here is to prevent crowd build-up.

But the "Don't walk" on the escalator is real funny. It might break if you walk! Lol

Danny, can't you do what you're told?
Just kidding! Keep annoying them!

I don't mind waiting in line for a while, but if it's for hours...

It surely is worth the pain after all. Still, no sitting... and if you got wobbly legs, what do you do?

Are you allowed to bring some sandwich for lunch at least? I guess not even.

And yes, those people with microphones are a bit... too much in terms of law and respect.

Hope you had fun (and happy nosebleeds!!)

Call me crazy, but I wanted to see that designated stopping area. I'm just trying to imagine how different it really was.

What would be really hilarious is if some one stopped and stood still forever trying to interpret the signs.

i'm not surprised at the volume of ppl and the doujin cirles since this is Comiket but i'm surprised at the rules and at the strict marshals who enforces them but it's understandable since this is a very huge event and possible chaos could happen anytime and prevention is better than a cure.

this is really interesting, i thought that you can rest anywhere at the Big Site but with Comiket it seems you can't and you can only rest at designated areas.

i so wanted to see how the organizers manages and organized this one of a kind event :3

Love those little bits of strict authoritative signage!
The system must work though - the Japanese respect authority and generally behave better in public, and to each other than most civilisations.
The no walking when you were solo on the travolator was a bit daft though.
Nice to see the outside of big sight too. I bet all the otaku were like "natural light - AIIIEEE!"

I really appreciate your patience to be willing to wait in that line for so long to bring the news to us. Thank you Danny!

Hmmm line waiting and ques. There is such a magic to them and waiting, if your that kind of person who is PATIENT.

1) Back in 1997 I had to wait outside the Hard Rock Cafe in Baltimore, MD for 6 hours when the water main broke near the ESPN Center. Customers who waited got free food, goodies, AND we had a rocking party. Was great when we had company from out of town.

2) I waited a month or so ago for my Nintendo Wii, in line for 5 hours at a local Wal*Mart. I wasn't sure for the first 3 hours, but an hour or so before the sale, we were given a list and they had to honor it. Got my Wii, and am enjoying it enormously :)

I think I would wait in line... though having a press pass does seem like the route I would try to go if I was going to one of those things. Of course, getting to Japan costs and arm and a leg...

Danny, what sort of criteria do you have to meet to get press passes for those things?
