Haruhi 2! Not.
Was speaking to some folks at Kadokawa (they own Haruhi) and when asked about a Haruhi follow up, they said that they have no plans and would not really be possible to produce one as the group that created the original Haruhi have all gone their own separate ways. Maybe this is a good thing as some follow ups can suck - look at Stargazer for example.
Anyway, Haruhi lives on because merchandise keeps coming out and we keep buying. #w#1,2,Haruhi Figure#w# A decent pre-painted Haruhi figure by Max Factory out next February and retails for 3,990 yen that I'm sure just about everybody on the planet will buy.

And how about these adorable Haruhi Figumate figures? The problem with these is that you dont know which one you are going to get (you cant see inside the box and the box artwork is generic).
A set of 10 figures costs 4,200 yen and you are still not guaranteed to be able to them collect all. If you dont want to splash out a fortune on buying a ton just to get the figure you want, you could always go to Akihabara because they usually sell them in plastic bags - you know which one you are getting but they usually charge 1,000 yen or more each.
So whats currently on my buy list?

I have that Mikuru figure pre-ordered...also one of each of the bunny versions ;_; Ive heard they are only releasing 5000 of that Haruhi, if so good lucking getting one..its really a nice looking figure and i imagine ill try my best to get one.

That is one well made figure. All those creases and variation in colour tone in the clothing. I'm sure all Haruhi fans will be proudly putting tbis in the centre of their display case... And er, worshipping it day and night >_>

Aceness! This one looks a lot more in character that the bunny girl PVC figure coming out later this year. But no bunny girl costume though - Agh! Will definately get this one. Love those clumpy shoes - a very unusual and different attribute for a cute anime girly figure.

Would love to start a Haruhi figure collection. Thanks for the news about any Haruhi follow-ups. And good point about Stargazer. At least there are some translation of the book available, Its good that KyoAni followed up Haruhi with Kanon

BAH! My list is currently down to nearly nothing due to budget constraints and not enough time on my hands to work on and complete projects. I would love though to start collecting figurines! Thanks Danny the figure of Haruhi looks great (I have never seen the Haruhi Anime; its on my list to watch).

Gonna get this series and the bunnies, I have to as a die-hard Haruhi fan :P (well, I ordered the bunnies already -_-) At any rate, I mailed to every import shop I know and most are stocking them, they just didn't take orders through mail so I'll be refreshing a lot the next few days ^^

I'm most likely going to preorder this instead of the Atelier-Sai version. Disappointed when they didn't actually replicate the fishnet detail + overcharging quite a bit. I'm starting to like Koto stuff since meronpan Shana and Iriya. XD Unfortunately, I'm quite broke from the ARIA sets.. Aika will cost me another 6800 yen by the end of November, as well as Alicia in December for the same price.

eh? no bunny figures Danny? the haruhi bunny girl + guitar looked pretty darn cool ^^ =/ i cant preorder the new haruhi figure because all the preorders dried up the day sites put them on. stupid 5000 limit, i hope that it is just a marketing ploy. but everything else is nicely preordered and waiting for me to get my greedy hands on :D

Can anybody confirm the rumor/info that there will only be a run of 5000 figures? Someone mentioned it in the comments of this post. Akiba blog has a couple of articles on the figures, and the number 5000 does appear in both. Nifty's translation says "5000 first time limitation". I don't know if to take that as 'first preorder run of 5000 units' or '5000 units limited edition - total'. If someone who can read Japanese can help, it will be appreciated.

Max Factory really did a good job on the 1/8. All the detail we expect on present. This is currently the best model I can find of Haruhi, now hope we are getting Mikuru and Yuki soon.
